K5 Blazer pulling broken school bus
Переглядів 2,5 тис.13 років тому
A bus got stuck in my court, apparently reverse went out. I hooked up my 20 year old K5 Blazer and pulled it around. I had to do it in 4WD low, as 4WD high simply couldn't do it. Buses are heavy!

My Great Dane normally never barks at anything or anyone. That clearly is not the case with the service repair truck that was parked next door...
gettin out of the snowpocalypse in my K5 Blazer

It's nice to not have to dig out the entire driveway ... and court like my neighbors had to do. 1990 Blazer K5 just blows right through the white stuff.

Digging out from the MAIC snow storm that dropped 22" to 32" of snow in my front yard. It's hard to drive when you can't even find your cars. The dogs were having fun...

Dumb virginia snow plow drivers
Переглядів 24 тис.14 років тому
A short clip of the snowplow drivers in Loudoun Virginia ... who apparently don't know how to use the plow to move snow, so they keep getting stuck. Notice the truck in the background that is already stuck. They leave and come back and got stuck two more times the same evening, rather than simply push the snow out of their way! The third truck finally pulled them both out.

    Facts I just did this yesterday but it took me 5 minutes total for both sides. Getting my new inner and outer ball joints in with my poly bushings was another story. But it’s done. Thank you

      Best to buy performance bushing it takes a "special" tool to push in but then 1/2 of the bushing slides pretty easy. Search saw removal of remaining bushing it works best with new blade

    Wow! That's very neat looking. Reminds me of growing up in the 70's when everyone used those big bulbs. To finish it off, I would put a single candle light in the windows so you don't have that "black hole" look at each window.

    James are you in the US mate? Over in the UK we salt the roads so this stuff corrodes like nothing else, i've just spent over an hour hitting the bottom wishbone with a lump hammer and it still didn't come free. Ended up cutting the wishbone in half with a grinder and replacing the entire hub/upright/wishbone because of this lol

      mate i have just had the same problem with an 52 reg mini from the uk. i am lucky that i work within a machine shop as i couldn't get the inner ball joint free. i was lucky that the outer balljoint came free as the bolts to the hub were so corroded that they were round and even with a nut extractor they wouldn't come free.

    Great job!... but now how to remove the bushing, which is probably the reason to remove the wishbone? I've heard the upside-down bolts make it a pain.

    • @rs25com
      @rs25com 8 років тому

      I used a Sawzall to cut the bushing out of the housing, leaving the housing installed on the car. I then used a bushing removal tool to slide it out. Then I used the tool the slide the new one in.

    • @warwickdean
      @warwickdean 7 років тому

      James F Can't the tool be used to remove the bush alone? Does it actually require cutting or was that just to speed things up? can the inner ball joint be swapped out once the wishbone is removed or does it require the frame dropping? thanks

    @85simplexity actually Its been recorded that some parts of lake erie, new your and michigan have all gotten at one time or another upto 24" in an hour period and even some skii resorts/mountians its not a constant thing, and it is a rarity, but it has and will again happen!

    @jkautosource I think you misunderstand what is going on here. They came all the way down the street with their plows down (as they do every year) and then when they got to the end the stopped plowing and tried to turn around. All three of these guys did it. Finally a few hours later another guy came through, kept his plow down, and gracefully got to the end of the court and simply went around in a big circle with his plow down. They absolutely plow these roads, these guys were just dumb

    getting stuck sucks, but over reacting and not thinking it threw wont help. When first stuck, sure the reverse can most times get you out. but always carry a shovel so you can dig your way out, and clear a small path to get you on the right track. remember that. it can always be good to carry that shovel.

    when the snow is that deep and you have such a light truck you must have momentum to start plowing or you sit and spin- if he had a v plow he might be able to start plowing at the low speed he was going and it pushes down on the front and adds weight to the front wheels.

  • @achilles6312

    It's so funny how everyone is the best driver sitting in front of a computer. Yeah, he should have put the plow down. The person talking about driving 70 mph on snow or ice is not very smart. Not saying it can,t be done, just that it is NOT safe. I grew up in VA 40 years worth. Anyone that knows what a Nor'easter is knows that 6'' per hour, in a strong one is likely. The northern tier of states get snow all the time. 6''-8'' here and there. When it snows here, we may get 1-2 feet +.

    the pros (unless they drive it them selves) during an unexpected blizzard , will employ people that in the majority are youngsters out of work or going to school during day time.The employer has no choice because he signed contracts and he cannot get enough experienced people,let alone afford to pay their higher wages.North american areas with regular snow fall have more experienced people (from the age of 16 to the 60 tees).Virginia is like the Northwest...one never knows when it'll snow.
