    I have the 1/8th sifter, the exact one you have there in the video and it doesn't catch the cocoons. What size screen is perfect for catching the cocoons? Because I have ordered like 5 already from ebay and Amazon and the sellers are lying about the screen size. So it's set me back quite alot. Can I get just a simple answer on what screen size will catch the cocoons but sift the Castings ?

    • @northeastworms
      @northeastworms 3 місяці тому

      1/8 is the perfect size. We use 1/8 also on our big commercial trommel. Sometimes, some smaller cocoons can pass through, but 99% will be catches

    • @northeastworms
      @northeastworms 4 місяці тому

      The one you have works perfectly. It will take a little time for the worms to eat because it is not perfectly composted, but it will add a lot of fungi to your bedding and final product. Just try to broke down as fine as possible

      @@northeastworms Thanks a lot for advice! I really appreciate it. Also, I came with an idea to inoculate it using EM1 to start the process of decomposing the brown rice which might help to make the brown rice softer for the worms!

    The timing for this is great! It reminded me that I found a local mushroom grower a few months back and I needed to touch base with them again. They sell a tractor scoop full for next to nothing! It’s time to schedule a pick up! If it works as well as I hope I’ll have my husband pick up a truck load to use that along with my other bedding materials. At the price it will help keep the worm bedding cost low, actually a little lower than it is now. I just ordered a large feed mill/grinder similar to the one you showed in a recent video and guess it will make quick work of breaking up the substrate as well as the other bedding materials. Can’t wait for it to arrive and to get the new bedding going. Thanks for sharing all you do. Your videos are awesome!

    • @northeastworms
      @northeastworms 7 місяців тому

      Unfortunately, the industrial processes are very expensive. Thos product is made in the USA and is all stainless steel. The wheels are molded and created in a way that they will never fail. This is a piece of equipment not only for "cannabis" but for a wide range of uses, which is a "problem solving" for all the sifting problems. It is made to last forever. There are a lot to consider when we need to calculate a price for equipment. I know it is not "cheap," but you need to consider this equipment like a "top of the gamma" and unique for the use. I showed in the video a cheap, plastic made sifter. The plastic one costs half, but you pay for what you get. Please let me know if you have any questions. I've only ever used dried up leaves shredded with a weed whacker in a garbage can. The leaves as opposed to cardboard have minerals bacteria and fungi that produce far better castings. The shredded leaves with a little dirt and or compost are better food for the worms. You'd be better off using cardboard along with your food scraps and the leaves as bedding. The leaves are actual worm food to begin with and have microbial life on them. Cardboard is plain and sterile so nothing beneficial going into the worms.

    Whatever size of the worms, a pound will be 2 cups. 8 lbs should be 16 cups of worms or a gallon. May be less intil rehydrated. No one counts worms and they know you won't either. Always buy by weight. When sorted and rehydrated, you can check the weight you recieve. A fine three or four inch paint brash helps in sorting moving worms.
