How to make a small Waldorf chicken (Ostheimer size)
Переглядів 9053 роки тому
Are you trying to keep the toys of your children open ended and flexible? Wouldn't it be great if the sizes of your kids toys would match? I got very annoyed of having the big animals, the middle sized ones and the small ones. Toys multiply so easily and soon the kids room is packed. By trying to keep it minimal I created different sizes for my knitted animals to match them with our well loved ...

The Beatrix potter series is lovely. Also old nature shows. I recommend old shows, dvd on an old tv if possible ( not flat screens )... yes I’ve really thought too much about it. It’s been a slow journey. Claymation is excellent. And shows from YOUR childhood! I play some for my kids in Russian and ukrainian and it’s no problem that my English speaking kids don’t exactly understand. In fact I think it’s less stimulating that way.

I appreciate your video. I found your channel for Waldorf suggestions. When I recognized Manzanita beach in the beginning of your video it was such a treat. We left Portland and moved to the country just before all this happened. Though we were back and forth for much of 2020. I was honestly so shocked and saddened at how oppressive it all became. All of a sudden my community of natural parent friends didnt believe things the same way and few had the courage to stand against the isolation, forced medical choices and even masking of children. For some reason I had a profound aversion to masking my children and myself. Anyway, I appreciate you sharing and I resonate with the things you said. I hope you have found more of a free thinking tribe there and lovely places to go with your family. Leech Botanical Gardens is a hidden gem, children and parents alike adore it.

I comment here since the comment under 10 things I disagree about Waldorf Sch system is turned off: I agree with your disagreement, I’m just surprised that they didn’t think attached parenting is the skill they use… since they love to teach about self regulation & acknowledgment & validation of different kinds of feeling. I feel like there’s only some specific time for eating in most school and even in most work environment, due to some pellet in the society think that eating is a distraction. Also if teachers are serving food anytime the children want, they think they would have to help clean up more often and therefore it’s less convenient for teachers and more time consuming. I do agree with what you said, humans (both grown ups & children) should be allowed to have food whenever our bodies feel like. I think serve a large plate of sliced fruits & crackers outdoor for the every kids to enjoy in between meal time will be considerate, yes it may mean more time consuming or cleaning effort.. but boundaries can be created to protect everyone’s wellbeing & hygiene 🌱 I also think to have this level of security & education system is a privilege, I couldn’t afford my ideal type of school system and I alone couldn’t change the whole system to be better… However I can focus in what I can control, which is my own home environment, I could create the environment and teaching / model that I value when my children are not in school. I can provide / give feedback to slightly flawed school system, but I also understand evolvement takes time.

There are no Montessori school in Finland, so the only decision is between the "normal school" and Waldorf. Interesting is that they have become closer to each other since I went to school, many things from Waldorf are common practises now in "normal schools", for example starting to learn foreign language in first grade or all of the students having same subjects (not like wood work for boys and knitting for girls like it was twenty years ago).

Thank you Mimi Rose for clearing some very important points. When making comparisons you should always know for real how the methods are, and it looks like you don't know montessori method in depth. But mimi explained it perfectly. Please next time research better or visit a school or talk to a montessori guide to understand the reasoning behind things and how it actually works...otherwise you are just giving a lot of negative input instead of real facts about the method.

I made them while my daughter was 2 and it worked out great for us. I also never left her completely alone in this age. Most parents I know make them for their kids when they are either 2 or 3. It's the same with scissors and knives. Kids can be very different. If you don't feel comfortable with it, then it might be better to wait.

They are pricey but again the goal is to get less and Aim for quality. If you don’t mind I will share some brands with you. Babai - they have a small collection of beautiful wooden toys. I recommend their magnetic toy houses. Clicques - peg dolls and wooden toy trees Tateplota - Russian family owned business with beautiful hand made toys. I recommend the dragon, boat unicorn. But all their items are really magical.
