The Tropical Island Drink Made On An Island That Isn't Tropical
When you think of sipping tropical cocktails, you often connect it with island life. But what if your island isn't in the tropics?
This is the situation that guests who visit Kiki's Lounge on the Isle Of Man find themselves in, and they love it!
Today, we join Drew Flemming in a not so tropical location for a tropical cocktail called Ernest & Rita.
As the name suggests, the Ernest & Rita is a drink that sits between a Daiquiri and a Margarita, with Tequila, a touch of Mezcal, Elderflower Liqueur, Campari, Pink Grapefruit 'superjuice' and Simple Syrup.
And it really shows that you don't need hot temperatures to either make and appreciate this tropical island concoction.

    Do you have any recommendations for soju cocktails? Specifically something stiff?

      Got to admit, we haven't done a lot with Soju and most of the cocktails using the spirit that I've seen have been light, summer drinks with strawberry, mango, pineapple etc and fairly low proof - one that was made for me years ago (but I don't remember the name) used an ounce of Soju, an ounce of pear Vodka, half an ounce of lime and top soda water ..., that could be stiffer than most you see ... otherwise have a look at the full Grabriel Lowe video (ua-cam.com/video/aKM21cqH16I/v-deo.htmlsi=CR6nHMcQH1y1XF-T) and some of the work done at Singapore's Cat Bite Club - hope this helps ...

    Can that magnesium powder cause laxative effects in some people who are sensitive to it? Is it magnesium citrate, or a different form like magnesium bysglicinate?

      Hey - I'm afraid you'll have to contact Derek Brown or Calm, the company that makes the magnesium supplement, to answer that question. We have no medical knowledge, so it would be irresponsible for us to attempt to answer it.

      Yes, it does sound fabulous. Nacho is one of the bar's co-owners - he has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Before COVID, I went to his last bar, Ghost Donkey, which was amazing, so I can only imagine that SUPERBRUNO is equally or more spectacular. Hopefully, I will get to NY again soon, and if you are planning a trip, I would say definitely go and have a look!

    Terrific ambassador/bartender!! 🙂 This is a really beautiful cocktail and it looks so refreshing. What a fabulous choice for brunch with a low ABV or when someone wants a lighter cocktail! Delicious ingredients! I also date my Vermouth! I adore the Martini that has been prepared and it is a huge personal favourite!! I love my Martini super chilled and dry!! I really enjoy the Extra Dry Noilly Prat! It goes so well in a Martini! Amazing pairing of fantastic flavours!! Cheers!! :-)

      I love that you date your Vermouth! People often don't realise that it degrades over time, so doing that (and storing Vermouth in the fridge) makes all the difference to the quality of your Martini.

    Izzy is amazing and she is going to make the new Milady's a huge hit!! Fabulous bartender!! What huge skill and a fabulous personality! The presentation of this spectacular Old Fashioned variation is outstanding and oh does it look delicious! This is the cocktail I want when I visit Milady's!
