    Your videos are solid gold. You condense multiple draw a box videos into a single shorter, more concise, and clearer video. I love it! Your style would translate to teaching kids, I believe, since they have shorter attention spans and don't want to sift through draw a box videos to get past his opinions and onto the lesson. Please consider making a simple curriculum with exercises! I would pay for it for my kids (advanced 9 and 7 year olds).

    Aside from guessing something I do Is pick one vanishing point..then imagine where the viewer or lens is standing in the image and look down at your "feet" this is found where the center of the horizontal axis is but often lower down the vertical axis.. off the page, and it often takes interpretation to place yourself in the scene. The first vanishing point and your "feet" make a line. At 45 degrees from this line is your second vanishing point. I think Tyler knows this? It's kind of hard to describe so "guess" is probably better advice.

    • @tylerbourneart
      @tylerbourneart 6 днів тому

      Yeah great comment! There's a method similar to this where you're projecting the scene as an overhead view to see that 90 degree in relation to where you're standing, so basically what you're saying. I think you really need to be aware of the lens/cone of vision and stuff, it can get pretty complicated, especially for beginners. But yeah, great comment! Thanks!

    So sorry I know I can go back and rewatch, but what's the difference between form, proportion and renders, it's confusing

    • @tylerbourneart
      @tylerbourneart Місяць тому

      Proportion is making sure sizes of things are correct (like with humans it's the size of the height compared to the full height of the human body, how long the arms and legs are/where the elbows fall in relation to the torso, etc.); form is understanding the subject as 3-dimensional objects (again, with humans, arms are basically cylinders); and rendering is adding shadow/light, adding detail, etc.

    perspective is a lie. fascinating. so the world we inhabit is really just 2D (front/back, left/right) and our minds graphic processor is instantaneously taking in all which we see and faking the third perspective point to give us the illusion of 3D. far out man, I always thought it was just a government conspiracy

  • @danielsim8385
    @danielsim8385 Місяць тому

    Well it really is all just from your perspective. Fun to see philosophy, geometry and physics start to appear when our vanishing points increase. I wonder if it's just a limitation as a human and unless you get one of those funky fields of vision we see in animals if the 5-point is just the maximum amount we can see/process on our own.

    • @tylerbourneart
      @tylerbourneart Місяць тому

      Yeah, it's pretty interesting to think about. The fact that lenses on both cameras and in our eyes are convex might play a part in everything seeming 5-point-ish; but I'm definitely not confident in that. At some point this stuff turns into real-world physics and that's beyond my scope lol

    Thank you very much for these vídeos, wanted yo ask you how would you go for setting vanishing point for wide angle lenses landscape, do you use river or other natural objects as a reference point and use overlap, aerial perspective and finishing for create the illusion or is there a way to achieve a real sense of perspective using these rules? Ty ty

    • @tylerbourneart
      @tylerbourneart Місяць тому

      Hmm that's interesting. For landscapes I tend not to use grids, other than maybe to help see where my ground plane is, but you can mostly just use overlaps, and shapes receding in space help perspective. Typically, landscape photographs are longer lenses, not wide, and it's probably a little harder to sell things getting that wide-angle distortion when they're organic like trees and rocks (just because extreme angles are good hints for visual distortion). I would say, yes, rivers can help perspective, especially if you play with how wide they are, the edges of the river can converge more slowly/more quickly. Your best bet is probably just to find some good reference for the type of look you're going for, and try to achieve a similar look. And then you can use auxiliary vanishing points for things like rivers, trees receding back in space, etc.

  • @emarpiee

  • @danielsim8385
    @danielsim8385 2 місяці тому

    Tell us all the facts and then when you learn enough you get slapped with the "oh those are all lies". Of course. If we start adding more perspective points, would our image start to look more like a kaleidoscope of an image? Or just wouldn't work? I'm picturing something like Inception meets Dr Strange's mirror dimension

    • @tylerbourneart
      @tylerbourneart 2 місяці тому

      Funny you mention that! The next (and last) video in the series is how perspective is a lie lol. Once you get past 5 it's all personal interpretation, imo; but the most common uses, I'd say, are overlapping grids like in panoramic shots, and you see that kind of stuff in 360-degree video stuff in VR, the flat images are full of crazy perspective. And then yeah I guess you could have infinite amounts of auxiliary vanishing points, if you're doing Dr. Strange-level complexity

    Great stuff! Railings on the catwalk but none around service elevator pit... not an OSHA approved workspace. The 3-point perspective looks very similar to the 2-point stuff you did before, would you say it's generally used for just more skewed camera angles in 2-point scenes?

    • @tylerbourneart
      @tylerbourneart 2 місяці тому

      LOL yep you're right about the railings! yeah, generally 3-point is more important as you look further up or down, because that angle/convergence becomes a lot more extreme. You could argue that 3-point is also a little more "realistic" because as soon as you tilt your view even a little bit, you start getting that taper. The vertical lines of 2-point are a bit of a cheat. Honestly I personally tend to decide based on how lazy I am lol. If I'm doing a prop sort of looking slightly down, I'll do 3-point because it feels better. But often in digital I'll do 2-point so I can use shift for vertical lines, which speeds up the process, especially if I have to do a whole bunch of sketches. And for full scenes I just do whatever I feel the shot needs.
