Atlanta Cities Skylines Progress 4 - Start of Suburban Sprawl & Atlantic Station
Here is the next part of my Atlanta progress, sorry it has taken so long! I had a computer upgrade which took a while and videos to make about that, I've been working over the summer so have not had much time anyway, I lost interest for a while and to top things off I almost lost my save game!
But thanks to /r/citiesskylines my save was recovered and I made some good progress in the city, so here it is.
Mod list: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=899994226
Asset list: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=899992928
You'll need a good PC to run this game, I do have an older version on the workshop, let me know if y'all want a newer version.

    This game so so poorly optimized that videos like this truly don't matter (no offence) I have a very strrong PC and a ton of creators do as well and any time you decide to try and render a zoomed out portion of a city heavy with assets your frames are going way down. RAM matters for loading time but doesn't matter with rendering the game while playing. I have a 3080ti and 64 gigs of RAM and this game drops to 20 or fewer FPS when I try to zoom out and look at the entire city.

    i wouldn't think it's because you don't have a good enough gaming computer to run cities skylines it's just if you do happen to build your city really big you kinda of lose a little bit of fps but other than that you can run the game with only 8 gigabytes of ram and with only 480 gigabytes of storage and with a single fan gigabyte geforce gtx 1650 super and with a ryzen 3 3200 and with a 500 watts power supply also that what my gaming desktop is and the game runs fine for me

    IMPORTANT: One thing I failed to mention in this video was RAM amount and speed. RAM is the most important factor determining how many assets your PC can handle. The more the better, use the loading screen mod to monitor how much capacity you have left. I used 32GB DDR4 RAM for both systems and capacity was never a bottleneck. (unfortunately not overclocked on AMD due to motherboard fault, didn't realise at the time I made this video.) RAM speed is important, especially with AMD CPUs. It's likely that if my RAM was performing at the correct speed of 2666, the AMD results would be better, does not affect conclusion to this video. TLDR for video: -Core count affects sim speed -IPC affects FPS -GPUs struggle whatever but small improvements can be gained with more power, look for plenty of VRAM These conclusions still apply in 2020, Ryzen 3600 would suit the game nicely but higher spec models will perform better in relation to the above TLDR conclusions. Sorry the editing is a bit bad and I rambled and this vid could have been presented better, it was 3 years ago now :)

    • @digitalcity6544
      @digitalcity6544 4 роки тому

      Honestly if someone asked which CPU i'd recommend today it would be the Ryzen 5 3600. Since I made this video AMD has made significant progress in IPC which was the main reason the FPS suffered on the 1700x compared to the i5. You get the benefits of 6C/12T for the simulation speed bonus as well as more horsepower from Zen 2 to keep the FPS manageable. Of course, the ultimate CPU for this would probably still be the top end intel for like £1500 or something crazy, but the 3600 is by far the best value for money.

    I'm not sure it's possibke to get a less relevant comparison than this. You mean to establish that core don't make a difference past 4 in Cities skyline, but you compare 2 cpu's of different brands with different base speed. Ever heard of the scientific method? I'm suspecting that even the graphic settings in both game are not even the same due to the huge difference in colors on each sides towards the end. I'll never get those 3:15 back.

    • @digitalcity6544
      @digitalcity6544 4 роки тому

      Graphics settings were identical. Both CPUs were overclocked to their max stable speed to showcase the best performance each one could provide. Matching the clock speeds would not be representative of how people would use the products. The aim was not to establish anything in particular, just to compare 2 different CPUs. If you look at the summary video you can see I concluded the Ryzen performed better, due to it's 2.5X performance boost in simulation speed.

    This game uses only 1 core for general performance. I was amazed to see my fps drop under 30 on my high-end rig before 6k population. It's a damn shame really as it is the best city building game imo and you can build so much in it.

      I think what we all want from Cities Skylines 2 is an engine that can make good use of high core count CPUs which have become a lot more popular since the game was first released due to Ryzen's impact on the market. The game should let us build HUGE cities with massive populations, traffic AI should be good enough we don't need complex mods such as traffic manager's advanced AI tool (it would be built in as standard). We should also be able to have much larger agent limits so car count doesn't get capped after we reach like 200k. This has honestly been the thing stopping me from playing the game recently, such a great game, but no hardware can quite support CS 1 to it's full potential.

      It's not about framerate, it's about simulation speed. For example, at the start of any map the speed it takes for 1 day to pass is 8 seconds. Can you tell me how much time goes by for 1 day to pass at higher populations? Please do this test with a varied ammount of populations, so we can have parameters for comparision. This is the type of data we need for this game. If you have for example 200k population and it takes 12 seconds for 1 day to pass, that would be more than acceptable results (even if it appears that the framerate is lagging a bit)

    Which one is the high-end hardware? I have an i7-2600 and 1080ti. Not modded tho. Fps is in the 30s on a Boston map. The 1080ti never gets above 30% load.
