Old World DOMINANT Hardcore Hatti Victory Final Part 9
Just ran roughshod over everyone.
Settings are all explained in the first video.
Used Hantili the Schemer. Had a central position with civs on all sides.
Year 80 I am in 6th place. But building a solid economy and infrastructure. At Year 98, I am in 4th place with 24/81, and Assyria in first with 33/81. Year 117 I am in 2nd with 34, and Assyria at 40, by year 121 I am in first place with 41 points, and Assyria still at 40.
I then blitzed the map to win by 25. Could easily have won a Domination Victory if points were turned off. Was number one in technologies researched almost the whole game somehow.
This was a hardcore win. By this I mean the settings required to receive the Hardcore Achievement(locked saves, No undo, all nations, Events maxed, ruthless AI, AI moderate advantage, AI advanced development, realistic mortality)
I try to explain my thought processes for many of the early game decisions. By mid-game with the victory largely building, I sort of get silly and start making jokes that are funny to only me about the various events. This is me letting down my guard and just being silly. Hopefully it doesn't take away from the strategy explanations.

Role-play wise. a Heckler-Orator is awesome. Millennia later, the sick burns he distributed against his opponents in court have become classic insults - "Oh, yes, he couldn't tell the front end of a chariot from its rear if it ran him over... twice."
Hey, the jokes are authentic! It was an amazing victory from a tough starting position, enjoyed it.
Congrats! You mentioned wanting to see what everyone else was doing on the Timeline screen - that's what the Toggle Fog button there is for, so you can watch them expand.
Congrats on the win! Finally found the time to watch till the end.
I think the last couple of events for you old king you should have taken the other rewards instead of the stat upgrades. As nice as +1 wisdom on a 9 wisdom character is, if he's 60 years old he probably isn't going to benefit the empire for long with it. Better to grab a Court Soldier...
Hmmm went back and looked at that decision. 9.4 science at this point in the game, I felt like was gamebreaking. I know that court soldier would have also been helpful, but you see when he died I went from 79 Science to 13. So even the 4-5 turns I had his additional 9.4 science, It's like 3 to 3.5 turns of my science production after his death. Plus if he lived even just a few more turns which I wasn't sure of his death at that point, I was trying to get ahead in Science and maximize his utility as a leader. I feel like it was ultimately the decision I would make every time as this was the first game I ever lead in Science the entire game, and it was easily my strongest and most easily won victory at this difficulty. I tend to think the Science lead is what did it. But it's hard to say, I certainly don't discount your view and have no full assurance I made the best decision by any means, I just feel I would have made that same decision in that spot every time. Definitely not easy though, and I could very well be wrong on that.
have you used the improvement pings yet? i believe there's one for generic resource that would allow you to choose where the imported horses go. you can do the same with the garrison in your first city.
People have told me this. I will try and learn it before I play next session. Definitely on to do list for tactics learning.
IceMatrixGaming, didn't you think about switching from Centralization to Vassalage earlier? I believe that would solve most of your resource problems, for a small science hit.
Yeah, I'd have to go look, but Vassalage switch would likely have been good, I might have been saving the civ gavels for some other law creation, etc. But it might have been an error on my part not switching early. Let me re-watch this portion and give a better answer.
I hope you don't mind. I tagged you in the most recent Video description but can remove it if you like, I just wanted to give a hat tip to you for this comment, cause I definitely utilized it in this most recent Hatti game and it was because you pointed it out. I can remove it if you like :) Thanks again
@@icematrixgaming13 No, I don't mind, I'm glad the comment was helpful!
This is an incredible cliff-hanger - rolling with the punches, wondering how on earth you're going to pull out a win!
Definitely some luck helped.
At around 17:35 you put an onager into the city with the remark, "Let's keep them happy" - but actually a unit from the same family only needs to be within the city territory to get the happiness bonus (with walls). Just wanted to share the hint! 🙂
EDITED: hhh that wasn't about keeping the family happy, that was more about I had a wrong idea about a game mechanic. See below.
@@icematrixgaming13 Wow, I didn't know that, thanks for sharing it. Maybe one of the devs will share that info with us? I continue to enjoy this playthrough, I can hardly wait to see how it turns out. For me also the moral of the story is not to give up too early - you often seemed to be in a really unpleasant situation where I might have quit, but you keep going and systematically work to improve things. If you started this game again would you prioritize orders earlier? It seems for almost the entire game you are struggling with a low number of order.
@@jlweb58 There is no extra happiness effect from having a unit in a conquered city outside of the normal family unit in territory bonus you mentioned. The city will have an additional discontent modifier 'Foreign Population', this is permanent and can't be affected. There is also an Assimilation penalty to all your production in conquered cities, this is dependent on the culture level of the city when it was captured and goes down slowly over time (faster if you increase the culture level of the city).
@@mohawkgames8276 Thanks for clarifying that. And keep up the good work with this fantastic game!
Weird. I could have sworn it was on one of my first playthroughs like the trial "learn to play" one where it like guides you that the game itself suggested I leave a unit in the city to mitigate some effect. Cause I did it ever since. Appreciate the response, and I edited the above comment from me so I won't confuse people.
Nice series, I'm enjoying seeing your thought process. I haven't tried playing on Great yet, I seem to be thinking about the game decisions in a similar way to you.
Hey really appreciate the comment, sorry was really busy this past few days and didn't get a chance to state that. Let me know how you do on The Great Difficulty when you play it, but make a pit stop at slightly earlier difficulties too, it will give you more confidence on the hardest one. But As noted in the description, that was my 5th attempt at The Great with points victory turned on. So don't be demoralized if you lose a few, sometimes it's just too stacked against you and you can have bad luck.
21:02 Both Poets costing a citizen is working as intended. If you were upgrading an Apprentice Poet to a Master it wouldn't cost you a citizen, however in this case you are building a new Master Poet in a Theater from scratch so it does. You can't build Apprentices in the higher level buildings, you go straight to Master for level 2 buildings and Elder for level 3. This is why you have 2 options for a Master Poet but can only build one at 58:25 - the available option is an upgrade from an Apprentice which doesn't cost a citizen.
Wow. I never knew this. That makes sense. I just assumed that all buildings started with Apprentice and went up. I didn't realize the second and third buildings had to be seeded with 2nd or 3rd Tier Poets. Okay so in this same playthrough at the end, I take over 2 Legendary cities, but rather than give me 4 points for the Legendary when they were converted to my civ, it made them weak cities, I don't remember this happening on previous playthroughs. I always remembered that like a Strong City became a Strong City etc. Am I misremembering or has it always been this way? I remark on this in Part 11 or Part 12, Most likely Part 12 as that was the final Part.
Just realized this is the Game Developers Official account!!! So cool of you to leave a comment! Apparently I have to wait a couple months before being able to pin comments, but I will remember to return to this and pin it. Much appreciated of you to check out the gameplay and offer feedback. I am stunned. Your game is amazing. I wish more Civ Fanatics would try it out.
@@icematrixgaming13 City culture levels are per nation, they always start at Weak when they are captured unless you previously owned the city in which case the culture level reverts to what it was when you last owned it.
@@icematrixgaming13 That is how it worked when the game came out, it got changed to the current system some time later in balance patch.
Congrats on the win and your first gameplay video! Always interesting to hear why decisions are being made. Some pointers: 14:30 Forest on river is the best place to put a lumbermill, I wouldn't recommend clear cutting here. These tiles are best saved for later where possible. 18:10 Stone Boost would have helped your early economy out a lot here, giving you much needed resources to either build with or sell when you need money for events 21:55 Hatti can cut trees with any unit, they may have had a scout there chopping that would have remained hidden if they moved it to another Tree tile after chopping 24:10 You can cut the Trees on the Game tile here and still build the Camp, you don't need to move to another tile to cut. 45:30 The candidate you end up choosing is also an Oligarch which is another reason to pick them - Council jobs give +40 opinion to the character, which translates directly to family opinion when the character is the family head 1:42:20 Hold Alt with unit selected and hover over a foreign unit you are not at war with to preview damage, very helpful with no undo enabled.
Did not realize this on river by lumbermill. I will try to remember and mention it in other playthroughs. Thank you for the tip. On the Stone Boost, I went with this in my next playthroughs. I guess I wanted to aim for tech improvements, but the stone also leads to tech improvements through building constructions etc. I wish the game recommended the stone rather than the tech, but what can you do right? Yes I love this feature of Hatti. Good idea on the camp wood cut. Lucked out with the Oligarch. Really good tip on the Holding Alt, was unaware. Although sometimes I want to see what kind of damage it can do from different tiles like hilltop for horse, or certain units gaining benefits from being in trees, hills, etc. But still a good rough estimate.
51:22 All nations war is something only a fool would do... wait a minute 🤔
LMAO. Right...now if I was roleplaying the game. The character being foolish...maybe I should do that option...but good way to wreck the win lol.
Nice first episode. Looking forward to the next ones. Also: "for real, last turn now" ( 1:09:19 ) Episode ends 1 hour later 😂 such a classic! Using the radial menu you can set markers on the map for improvements to be built. When such a marker is set, and an event triggers the free construction of that particular improvement, it will be built on the tile you marked. Works also for the garrison for the first city.
Thank you so much and 😂😂😂 You know how it is lol. Classic for real. This game is hard to put down at times cause you want to have your plans in order for the most part worried you will forget key objectives that you loosely planned out, like am I going to get that Wonder/city etc.? I feel absolutely foolish but I don't understand the radial menu at all, never used it. I will need to watch a video or demonstration of it, and will use it in the next playthrough. Thanks for the tip!
@@icematrixgaming13 alcaras is your man for explaining improvement pings using the radial menu ua-cam.com/video/S5LKalslja4/v-deo.html
Nice episode! Keep them comming. 22:43, I checked: lumbermills do not count as mills.
You are right, I don't know why I thought that, I should have realized 100% would be ridiculous lol.
Hi, Tommy from Steam here. Your commentary is great, very interesting. Audio could be slightly better, but apart from this, the video is great. Cheers.
Thanks for checking in Tommy, Yeah I wasn't pleased with the Audio also. I bought a mic just for this a Hypercast Duo X something or other that had great reviews, but the sound is not ideal, it's a plug in play mic, I have a sound box with a cardioid but it's a clip on mic and sometimes when you brush it it creates bad feedback, but I will see what I can find that works, or tinker with the settings. Thanks for checking in! Really appreciate the commentary feedback also, glad it seemed useful. In future recordings I am already thinking about how I can better verbalize key strats and their seeding into the gameplay timeline.
