    I am so stupid. Maybe this video is old? I guessing not though. I followed directions each step. It is still the same sample on both parts. But thanks for the video. I really do appreciate you even though this is nine years ago. And I will probably be one of those people who just gives up on the Octatrack.

    • @InflatableRobot
      @InflatableRobot Рік тому

      Nah you aren't stupid, shit is just weird. Kinda sounds like the OT isn't switching parts. Let's try this. Do the following with the OT stopped. Select your first pattern, then go into the parts menu and select part 1 (up arrow) and hit YES. Then select your next pattern, go into the parts menu, select part 2 (right arrow) and hit YES. Now open your parts menu again, and while it is open hold your pattern button and switch between your two patterns. You should see the part switching as you switch patterns. Don't give up, it will click if you keep at it.

    • @swampdweller5
      @swampdweller5 Рік тому

      @@InflatableRobot WowI I appreciate you so much. Yes, that worked indeed. So I guess that just means that patterns can be assigned to parts. I am still not quite sure why that makes sense in terms of the architecture of the OT. But I will keep at it. But all of the samples are global in a project? In other words when I change a sample in one pattern it changes it for all the patterns in a project? I am so used to my Model Samples and Model Cycles, it's hard so hard to make the jump to the OT. Thanks again.

    • @InflatableRobot
      @InflatableRobot Рік тому

      @@swampdweller5 Hell yeah, glad that worked. There are 4 parts per bank and the parts tell the track which sample to play from the global list of samples. So I usually think of a bank as a song, and the 4 parts let me have 4 setups per song. So like Part 1 will be the intro, Part 2 can be the verses, Part 3 can be the chorus, and Part 4 the outro. If I even need to use them all, which I usually only use 1 or 2 parts for a track.

    I don't know what's up, but the octatrack will not hear midi notes in audio mode unless it's either playing, which it won't let me play the synth while it's playing unless I'm in midi mode; it won't play the synth if it's stopped in the audio mode and I'm messing with fx in the thru track or recording a pickup machine in audio mode. I don't know what happened, I could record a loop into the pickup machine and record and play while watching the pickup counter last night (midi keys>octatrack auto ch1>synth>thru A>headphones/ext mixer (which the led flashes when it plays the synth or I play in the midi page)). It hears my synth, it plays my synth everywhere but when I'm in audio mode, so I can't see the counter on the pickup machine counter or mess with fx. edit to say I figured it out that audio note out says ext it works.

      [TRACK] + [REC1] will sample from the external input AB to the track recorder of the track. But you may want to try setting up another track with a Flex machine, as these have access to any of the 8 recording buffers in the sample slots, just scroll up. On this Flex track you can set up a Record Trig to automatically record so you don't have to go back and edit the sampled recording.

    I am trying to setup OT Mk1 for longer sets, 90+ minutes of performance (ableton taking care of sequencing other hardware synths) I am going via the banks system, so Bank A part 1, Bank B part 2 etc.. Would this also be a way of doing things or would having parts per pattern be quicker?

    • @InflatableRobot
      @InflatableRobot 2 роки тому

      When you select a Bank you must also select a Pattern. So yes, it would be quicker to use Patterns with different Parts assigned. You could then stay in each Bank longer, switching Patterns rather than switching Banks which takes extra button presses. But if you have a system that you understand and works for you, then it may be better to just stick with what you are comfortable with.

      Yeah, to live record trigs you need to press and hold [Rec] while tapping [Play]. You will see [Rec] flashing to indicate you are recording. Hold [Rec] and double tap [Play] to switch between quantized and unquantized recording. It will briefly say on the screen what mode you are in when switching.

    • @InflatableRobot
      @InflatableRobot 2 роки тому

      @@qwerwerterytrtyutyuiyuiouiop You may want to look into your midi settings under channels. Default settings have tracks 1-8 set to midi channels 1-8. So if you are trying to record trigs into the octatrack via a external device, that device will need to be set to the midi channel that corresponds to the default setting or whatever changes you may have made. The best approach is to use the 'auto channel' which routes the incoming midi on the selected channel (default ch 9) to whatever track is currently selected. Search 'trig channel' in the manual or go to pg 41 for more information. Personally, I always disable the midi channels for trig inputs 1-8 and only use the auto channel as I tend to use midi channels 1-8 for other gear and this can cause conflicts.

      @@InflatableRobot I'm kind of baffled how I can't simply record the OT trigs. I can manually trigger the synth no problem (well, lots of latency...), but can't input anything for playback. I don't want to control the OT with an external keyboard, I just want to conveniently trigger my drum synth using the OT trigs. I was successful doing this by routing things through Ableton, but stand alone I still can't make it work. Strange!!
