Cleaning up The DIY CNC Plasma- One of the less Glamorous jobs.
Переглядів 1337 місяців тому
This is a regular maintenance job on the CNC plasma table. I DIY built this machine approximately 5 years ago and since then have always used Bicarbonate of soda as a rust inhibitor in the water. That's he white stuff you see in the video it is cheap and has worked extremely well. I think I took around 150kg of rubbish out of the 3mtr x 1.5mtr table.
Aligning my large DIY Co2 Laser cutter Part 1
Переглядів 7137 місяців тому
I have split this video into 2 parts, This is part 1 it explains the leveling of the machine in as much detail as I can. Leveling really needs to be thought about when you design a Co2 laser. In my case, I did consider alignment but in my usual fashion, I pretty much worked it out as I went. This video explains what I have learned.

    Great job. I have a question? How you have wired 2 steppers in Y axis? They run with same stepper driver bcs i saw only one driver for Y axis. And do you configure somewhere in software that the machine runs with 2 steppers in Y axis? Thanks 🙏

    • @plasma453
      @plasma453 9 днів тому

      It is not best practice to run 2 steppers on one driver, I had intended to add another driver but it has worked without problem and has done a lot of work so until it does give a problem I'll use it as it is. the steppers rotate in the same direction so they are just spliced together.

    It works well. In the video, you were collecting grass as a separate operation from mowing. (As far as I could see.) Presumably it works equally well while you are mowing, if your route allows it?

    • @plasma453
      @plasma453 4 місяці тому

      Yes It doesn't interfere with the mower cutting system at all only thing is the mower throws the clippings out the side so I end up going over some areas twice. I tend to mow so that it gathers in rows and then go over it later when it dries out a bit.

    Hi Dave! Great build! How stable is the table with the slats? I can't see any guidance - you just have it guided by the lead screws, right? Especially if you put there a large sheet of 15mm acrylic!? I was wondering for my build if that is enough or if you would recommended two guiding rails on the sides or so? Have a great day!

    • @plasma453
      @plasma453 6 місяців тому

      The table has proven to be very stable, although ideally I would have liked to use a longer belt so the lead screws are in the 4 corners. It is guided by the lead screws I went to a lot of trouble to get those vertical. I have tried a 28lb weight on the table and it raises and lowers just fine. The Z NEMA 23 powers it well no slipage so far. 👍

    Great job. Nice size. What is the thickest material can you cut (ply wood)? Would you choose a higher power laser tube?

    • @plasma453
      @plasma453 9 місяців тому

      Thanks, I've only tried 10mm plywood with 2 passes. I think it would go thicker though and will try. I mainly cut acrylic at the moment. The higher you go in tube power makes engraving harder as the minimum you can run the tube at is about 10% this means that eventuality you exceed the speed/accuracy of the steppers and the time it takes to pulse the tube on and off.

It was used daily for 10 years but is now semi retired. The shed it is stored in was struck by lightening which fried the pc the CNC is attached to, fortunately the damage didn't spread to the CNC.
