Great video. I've been building a couple Halloween layouts to loan out to a couple local businesses, and I might just borrow that orange ground idea. As for scenery though, I've been going the route of prewar horror films, the rotting wood clapboard buildings, the foreboding Victorian mansions, that sort of thing. May I also suggest a slight reletter of Soo Line into Boo Line? One other idea, is to use a 3559 coal dump car, disconnect the coil couplers from the pickup shoes, and using an RCS track somewhere, dump candy out of the car 'on the fly'. The self-righting dump bin means you can also reload the car by hand without stopping.

I need help w/a Menards Santa FE locomotive and B unit. I tried to run my O Gauge Santa Fe F3 Diesel Locomotive Model Number: 2793945 Menards ® SKU: 2793945 The locomotive and B unit will not run. I need a suggestion on what to do. The rubber fell off the wheels and the "B" unit started smoking. Not happy. The engine set on the shelf. No one has touched them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I plan on doing something kinda similar but with real pumpkins and making it a tunnel with the train going through lighting up the jack-o-lantern

I simply use the thin,clear plastic film from, let's say a pack of super glue or JB Weld. Or even the clear plastic film from a discarded child's action figure package. It's easy to cut into any window shape. I then simply glue the edges with Elmer's Glue so that if any glue seeps into the window seals, it will dry clear anyway.

It’s quite nice. I stick with orange and clack cars along with a steam engine. It’s static but it works.

I don’t know if this would count as a tip or trick but I find that the scout style coffin tenders look really good for a budget friendly auxiliary water tender. The trucks on the scout tenders make it so you just have to remove the scout coupler and snap on the postwar ones. And I tell you, when painted to match a specific steam locomotive or have the company herald, it really helps finish the look when a train has a long run ahead of it. Maybe consider giving it a shot if you have any spare tenders around

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it, and It was really informative. My grandmother surprised me with this train in 1976 and we continued adding cars for several years after. I eventually had amassed so many cars that I couldn’t fit it all together on the living room floor. The solution? Two ping pong tables, side by side, with trap doors cut into each one. (Just in case of an accidental derailment). As the collection continued to grow, it became my favorite way to escape into my own idyllic world complete with mountains, tunnels, a trestle over a river and more. The tables and landscape are long gone, but I managed to save my entire train and track from my mother’s massive purge after I went to college. And I still have them all. And in their original boxes. A wonderful reminder of what it was like to be a kid!

The 2055 was my first postwar engine. I got I a year ago without knowing anything about it, and I can 100% vouch, they are FANTASTIC models!! I’ve had very few issues with my 2055, and it’s spawned a healthy prewar and postwar collection I absolutely recommend the 2055 as a first engine, it’s an AMAZING engine!!!!

When you use the end nippers to secure the Menards tubular track together did the track stay together well?

Battery and relay logic, you don’t get that kind of model railroading jumpscare from circuit boards 😂

I got the Menards adaptor simply because my fast track wouldn’t fit in the railking bridge which sucks

I’m late to the party as usual. I need to give this a try. I found a Lionel road crossing in a lot of train parts I bought and would love to reproduce it without some of the wood detail it has on it.

When the nerds put in a switch on the engine for conventional run, or RC then I'll buy a new engine.Problem solved!

Grat assortment of o gauge trains sets or just locomotives

I took a chance on a needs repair one on flea bay and for a dollar, the dump car showed up with a bent spring. Fixed it within 2 minutes. I'm more of a postwar guy, but for a buck and shipping, why not.

Am I alone in thinking that nowadays the Railscope feature would actually be really nice and work decently? Can't be that hard to build in a small wireless camera with smartphone integration, and have it as either an option in the control apps or as a standalone app... I prefer the tactile nature of more conventional control for trains, but I would pay to have a cab or caboose level view of the layout!

Cool! My first set was my brother’s 2026 set, with freight and passenger cars. I wasn’t allowed to play with the 2343 ABA set, with the AMT passenger cars, until I was older. I still have all of his original stuff. An excellent video, as always.

Marx guy here, My Starter Set was my Dad`s Lionel 1940s Loco. 224 with six cars and a mixture of Marx extras.

Great info! I have 1 prewar Marx set and another from the 50's. The single reduction motors make me consider selling them from time to time as I use fastrack and have a couple switches. for now I added a separate loop inside the mainline to accommodate them. I mean the 90ish year old M10000 is just cool, rust n all.

I think that it's best to start with a new train and then try an old one; most old locomotives can be cantankerous. Price is a problem... That I hope to fix.

I’d say that you could let a child play with the first one unless said child aduses the loco&cars, from experience old Lionel locos are almost indestructible.
