    Wow! It's a wonderful world is Morse code I see you just using the side tone Which means it's not going out over the air this is so useful for CW practise for sending purposes. Making your own tapes up for Morse practise later and to pick out any mistakes, etc. Home tuning year Morse code best 73s de G0HDA

      Di used a neoprene cover from a free hand sanitizer bottle - she cut it apart, and then sewed it back together around the TinyPaddle. Cheap (free!) and pretty quick to build. Any neoprene would work! 73, Mark KD7DTS

    Nice video!! Wow! ...does the CFT1's sidetone really sound that bad? With the loud thump? Or was the it the audio lasp up for recording audio for video! Me hopes! Compared to Mark's KX2 sidetone assuming that's what Mark was using his KX2 sidetone sounded GREAT!

    It's kinda ironic because of all the common SOTA chasers I have worked on my CFT1, F4WBN is probably the only one I haven't worked. Maybe my timing is just bad. What's the kitty treat? I'll bet our cats would like that. I like how you have the decoded CW in the closed captions (which I leave turned off). I dislike having them as a crawl at the bottom because I don't need them and it's distracting, but I understand how many want them and use them for practice. AWESOME LOCATION!

    Hello Di and Mark. Di, I wish I'd known about this event and tried to work you. Great job on using CW and building a QCX Mini. I'm a male over 60, so I'm in that big group of hams, but it's great to see young people getting excited about SOTA and POTA, and other operating activities. CW is the best! You have a cute cat. Mine would never wear a harness that long. Let me tell you something about the old CW guys who are now in our 60s, 70s, 80s. We all started on CW, with transmitters we built from scratch using tubes, or maybe a Heathkit, and put up some simple wire antenna, then worked people from our parents' basements. We had that same excitement with every contact as you had making Qs from the summit. Those of us who have never lost our love of CW see a kindred spirit in you, and wish you well. Best 73, Vic VE3YT.

    Mark, thanks for the video. I have been wanting to experiment with some FT8 on my KX2. I seem to be having one problem however. Everything seems to work only if I unplug the jack going into the phones plug so the audio from the KX2 comes from the speaker. With this configuration the iPhone app decodes and will transmit via the MIC input. I have made one qso confirming it works this way. But when I plug the mic cable into the PHONES port of the kx2, the iPhone stops decoding. I'm wondering if this could be an iphone setting, a kx2 setting or perhaps a bad cable? Wondering if you might have any incite. BTW: Thanks for all the SOTA contacts. You are in my log at least 20 times.

    • @SOTA-plus
      @SOTA-plus 26 днів тому

      Hey Peter - you & NT6E were the first callsigns I learned to recognize as words! Thanks for all the hunts. The configuration you're describing is acoustic coupling - that'll work, but it's not convenient on a windy summit. Bad cable is always an option, but let's try configuration mods first. I'm assuming you've tried plugging headphones into the PHONES port & verified that audio comes out of the KX2? You've got the MIC cable from the phone plugged into the PHONES port, and the PHONES cable from the phone plugged into the MIC port, right? Can you try this sequence? 1 - Check that these settings are configured: Mic Bias OFF, Monitor OFF, Mic Button OFF, Vox ON 2 - Unplug all the cables 3 - Restart the iPhone 4 - Set the iPhone volume to mute, and then increase by one click of the volume button (should be ~5% on the phone's volume indicator) 5 - Set the KX2 volume to a low value 6 - Plug in the connectors (Remember: Mic --> Phones, Phones --> Mic) 7 - Adjust the ALC to 5 bars

    In case this helps others... I tried the suggested cables and have been having mixed results as most of the time the iphone (or ipad) does not get the audio from the cable but rather from their own internal mic... It does work sometimes though.... To rule out a possible bad cable I ordered this one which already has integrated the male connector and so far this new one has been working out all the time. It may be a bad cable situation... not sure. www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMHRKBNG
