That’s one cool bike and one cool biker 🤟🤟🇦🇺🇦🇺
What size was that flat wrench? 3:57. I’m struggling to find one that fits
Great Looking 👍 Frame ! Neck Angle , & Stretch ? . . Will Fowler
@@denverfowler5290 6” up 4” out, 40 degrees of rake
What size tip did you use on the gun
What's reducer ? Do you mean 2k thinners sorry just learning the USA terms must be different
Keep us updated on this build. I’m putting a girder on my 74’ xlh.
your diagram was incredibly helpful and saved me from taking all apart 2 times. THANK YOU!
Love the "head peeking out the window to watch how the starting is going!" I reckon she knew he'd end up with the pushbutton crank.
Nice bike
Where did you get that exhaust?
I need to know how you wired the shovelhead to start and run without the wiring harness, Ive been working on this 76 shovelhead for 7 years, I brought it home in boxes, and have just about finished it completely, so if you could help me out with this one thing I believe Ill get to at least hear it run before I die
@@Angelstone420 all you need 12v to one side of the coil, and the points wire to the other side of the coil. Make sure engine is grounded to battery, and it’ll run.
@@Angelstone420 for the starter, just needs the positive battery cable connected to the starter motor, then jump the solenoid, I bolted a feeler gauge to one lug so that I could push it down to jump the lugs, but you could jump it with a screwdriver or anything to activate starter.
@@Angelstone420 if you want it to charge, it’s just the stator wires go out to the rectifier/regulator, then one wire goes from that back to the positive on the battery.
Still early in the video, but just wanted to say that the bike’s gonna look great! I just got my new chain for my ‘99 Heritage Softail, was missing a few o-rings on my old chain. Hoping getting the old master link off won’t give me too much trouble. I seen a couple of videos where guys would use C-clamps and a nut 🔩 as an alternative to the master link tool which I don’t have. Greetings from Reno, Nevada ✌️😃
Thanks for watching! Hope you tune in for the next video, lots more to do on this bike.
@@Popsplace42 I’m looking forward to it 👍
I am looking forward to seeing the chopper run and completed. I'm curious if you have done anything else to the flh? I've got a passion for the shovelheads. I just recently bought a 1982 FLT, and it's been lowered, with no fairing or windshield. (Looks good sitting next to my 78 flh) Single headlight and dual running lights. Dual fishtails straight pipes sound awesome. It looks like later model saddlebags, 16" apes, 19" thick black spoke front wheel. Running great but has a little bit of a primary leak that I will take care of this winter. I just wish it had a Kickstarter, I don't like having to rely on a starter. I picked it up for only $3,000, so I'm sure I'm not going to complain.
@@rjoetting7594 Ya, after much research, I found that a replacement chain was really the only option, I ordered a Drag Specialty Chain from JPCycles, and took a chance on a $20 chain riviter from Amazon, which it got the job done, but bent the rivet tool a little. Now there’s an electrical issue that I need to diagnose, battery is good, but not getting any power when I turn on the key. I don’t know anything about electrical, but I did look at the fuses, but so far I’ve only found a fuse box under the seat with two fuses that have a metal body. I’ve asked around for anyone with any knowledge, but everyone seems to not know much either. Sounds like you got a great deal on a great bike!
Thanx for this video. Now I feel confident about removing the alternator in my '89. 😎👍👍
You’re welcome, glad it helps!
Too bad it’s not rigid
3:39: on the treble side, that fingerboard NEEDS relief! Makes thumb position a bit easier to execute.
Thanks for watching! It still has a bit of relief, but I’m always learning.
Good Luck!
Nice bike! I like that year with the wide tank. My daughter has a 2007 Sportster and although it’s kinda fun to ride, I still prefer my ‘99 Heritage Softail. I’m getting ready to go help my son put some new pipes on his Street Bob, but I love watching your videos and learning. 👍❤️
Thanks for watching! I prefer the big twins as well, but I’m loving this little Ironhead.
Beautiful shovel! Like your style! What length shocks do you run?
Thanks! This was a stock length FLH fork on this bike.
She’s aliveeeee
Nice Guitar
I know this video is 2 years old but I just saw it. I must say your bike is exactly how I’d want it. It’s totally has that look. 👍
@@bubbleone6526 thanks! This was a great bike. I’m building another one, I’ll do an update video soon. I have some recent videos showing the new one, hope you check it out.
Made that look easy! Thats the way to do it , beautiful old bike
Right 👍 on cool bike I'm digging the cc bar looks great
Thanks! More on this one coming real soon!
@@Popsplace42 right on I can't ride anymore due to a major stroke let me paralyzed but it's great to sit here and watch you guys still building bikes I love it thanks 👍
She is a gorgeous. I got a 73 fx Superglide...love it!
Nice! Gotta love the old Shovelheads! Working on a Shovelhead long chopper now, hope you check it out in my more recent videos. 👍 More of it coming soon.
Nice. I love drilling videos.. would love to learn more about pitches and what they do
good score.
Sir --Your as real as it gets.I have my 80 FXSB That has been under blankets for 10 years.I am so glad to see Our Shovels get rebuilt and back on the road. Bless you
Thank you! More coming soon, this one needs an entire brake system overhaul. The bushings in the calipers are worn to the point of not being rebuildable. Can’t wait to bring it back 100%
Neetoo
I refired one that sat 13 years and then I put 35K miles on it.
Keeping them alive! That’s great to hear.
What brand exhaust are you running on you bike?
Those came on the bike, not sure but they’re rad!
It's alive!! An air cleaner may help the Super B run a little better.
Thanks! Waiting on the carb kit to get here so I can open it and clean it.. then air filter back on to see how she does.
Good job!.....Thank you
Thanks for watching! Full brake rebuild coming next, subscribe and hit that notification bell so you don’t miss it.
lookin' good. spartan does make nice frames.
I love seeing these shovelheads coming back to life. I have a 78 flh. I'm swapping in an 80 cubic inch 81 flt motor this weekend. I will completely rebuild the original 74 top and bottom end and keep it. Can't wait to see what you do with the 79. I'm a new subscriber as of today.
Thanks! I’m getting ready to rebuild the brakes on this one, it needs just about everything. Thanks for subscribing!
Them petcocks I got where I never trusted them and use small stainless Ball vaulves .
Amazing. I have a 83 fxwg wide glide . Bought like a basket bike last winter .... Regards from Norway
When the lever on the petcock is down, that's reserve. Up is on. Also, just behind the right rear floorboard mount- is that a crack in the frame or an optical illusion on the video?.
Wow, eagle eye there! I went and looked right now, and I see what you’re talking about on the frame. Luckily, after I scraped the paint off down to bare steel, there appears to be no crack. It was just some paint lifting there.
Lever pointing down is on. Lever pointing back is off. Lever pointing forward is reserve.
yeehaw!! back from the dead! great job, pops!
if you watch the vid (at 9:57) you'll see the leak starts at the petcock.
Yep, I didn’t even notice until I watched the video. 😅
yeehaw!! back from the dead! great job, pops!
Right on, brother! 👍 That is such a beautiful bike! ❤ Long may she run
Thanks!
I LOVE SHOVELHEADS THANSK
More Shovelheads coming soon! Glad you enjoyed it
Nice bike
Interesting I see a lot of guys don’t remove that dash carpet under the steering wheel and try to use a wobble ratchet extension.. I am trying that now and it’s a pain so I’m going to try what you recommended and take that down too.. appreciate that suggestion I hope it works!!
Those old shovels are not started up,you wake them up. I own a 78 1/2 FLH,my first big twin and a 76 Superglide FXE kick and electric ,74 cubic inch many great miles in my youth,72 now and still in the wind by the grace of God! Maranatha, Greetings from Tampa Florida 😎
man, i almost laughed out loud when you mentioned 'the song that never ends'. i raised 8 kids and that song is burned into my head. your shovel long chop's lookin' cool. i have an early '78 that we're almost done putting together. the 74" version of that year. i also like my coffee like i like my women, cold and bitter 😂. i was going to ask you about the blue shovel but you beat me to it. see ya next time.
Haha! Hey thanks for watching! More coming soon!
This one has aftermarket jugs that say Engine Technology at the base, and new pistons. The heads may not be stock either, they look a little too clean under the paint, it’s a bit of a mystery.
Hello. The Reb bike. I have same front end. I bought a rolling chassis. I believe it's a big dog pitbull front end. I only have single caliper on front. Can you show close up of brake caliper mount? And what brake caliper you are using? Pm me any time. I have a 131 Evo in my frame. And 3.35 belt drive primary
I have a 79 fxe but not sure if it's a 74 or 80 inch ?!?
I believe 1979 were all 80”, I think they changed mid 78.
@@Popsplace42 that is what i thought but some of the vids show 79's as 74's..wierd
@@Ironhorsecowboy58 Harley did a lot of weird things in those years, kinda used what they had sometimes.. I’ve owned both 74” and 80” Shovels though, and they’re all super cool!
looks really good
Haven’t bowled since I was 17. This brought me back to wanting to go back to it, very similar experience to archery.
I had a lot of fun bowling and learning to throw a hook shot. I haven’t been in months, and need to go again.
