Are you anywhere near Hanbleceya Ranch or Homestead Hopefuls? I'd advise not giving your location away but anywhere near the same area? All are good people.
I was forced to go from a 5 day a week job to two 16 hour days. The travel is an hour each way so winters are rough here. I don't know what you do for work, but maybe less days and longer hours?
The "Asian beetles" were not here until people started buying them to eat garden pests. Gardeners bought them by the 1000s back in the 80s-90s and now they're a big issue.
@@hippiechickoffgridmaine8625 yeah we have a white camper and they covered that thing!
May you not become discouraged and disappointed. There is a lot of hard work and tribulations ahead. We have been and done that in our lifetime. My wife and I are 75 and still going strong. We raised our family here. One has been fortunate enough to have career here. They raising their family here on our property. Our other two children have careers and families that has taken them farther away. But have built their own rural homesteads. Our values and life stile remains. God Bless
@@patrickclark9909 thank you for sharing and the kind words!
Welcome to Maine your getting there buddy remember slow and steady you and your wife will get there
@@Mike-cc2eu thanks yeah this is a life time project!
I've got a gray water system here which ive never used, but its in place for when i get older. Ive got a dug well that i dont use but will as i get older. Ive got a dry toilet ststem here and compost my waste. My life is very simple here. Its when you try to have all the conveniences with bells and whistles is where most of the cost comes from. The less moving parts the better is where it's at for some of us.
@@hippiechickoffgridmaine8625 I totally agree my wife and I was just trying to make it more convenient for teenage kids😂! Which is costing us a lot more money!
@onthehillhomestead207 ☺
Great video Thank you. Was wondering what you both do for work? maybe next video :-)
Maybe a video for the future!
nice
Thank you for the very informative video....this helps give people at least some sort of idea and insight....great job
@@thomasmeagher4801 when we started this journey, we couldn’t find any videos that would give us a breakdown cost to get started. It would’ve been helpful so that’s what we’re gonna try to do is be upfront on some of the cost that it takes to live this lifestyle.
@onthehillhomestead207 And like you said, we all know there are all sorts of variables, but ballpark at least gives people a clue so everything isn't a shock or a complete unknown....thank you
Agreed! Awesome stuff

When you made an offer on the property how much off the listing did you offer..20% off? I'm looking to buy and want to make offers.
@@TheRollingCoinStore We started with a offer around 15% off than ended at 10% off the asking price!
@@onthehillhomestead207 Thanks for the info brother. I'm in southern Maine looking to escape north asap.
It is tough living in a trailer, and the showers were never long enough. We did it for a little over a year while we built, and there were 5 of us. The things we do for the peace and quiet 😊
@@LivingOnPrayersOffGrid so true!!!😂
I really enjoyed your take on both lists and I couldn’t agree more with each thing on your list. Bugs, tight spaces for long periods…..but the quiet, privacy etc wins the day.

I’m curious what you consider northern Maine because I am originally from Northern Maine in the Frenchville Madawaska Fort Kent area. I now live in eastern Maine near the Calais another area.

I thought you had a homestead in Alaska for 10 years before Maine. Or no?
@@MyHandleOnUA-cam no that’s one reason we left Alaska. It rained 200in where we lived in Alaska.
Hello 😊 I have to agree it is hard working full time and keeping caught up with everything. This time of year I have to do a lot in the dark. 🤣🤣 Living this type of lifestyle is so enjoyable and the work is so rewarding 🧡 Fun video.

Just subscribed to your channel. We can relate to the camper experience. We lived in ours for 5 months, between AZ and Maine. We have not used our camper since. Our daughter named our house the ladybug house after seeing so many Asian ladybugs our first year. Look forward to following you guys on your homestead journey.
@@theconetasselhomestead2679 Thanks! 😂 our daughter didn’t like the Asian ladybugs! And we didn’t talk about it in the video but we had an ant problem too! 😂
Just curious if at some point you'll get into the financial side of all of this in a video
@@thomasmeagher4801 Yes we have plans to do a video on the cost! It might be a two part video on what we have in the land work and then the cabin work!
When I have been to Maine, I found some local bug remedies that worked better than over the counter sprays. I am enjoying the videos, keep it up.
