Recently my mood has been low and my anxiety high, social media has overwhelmed me, so I have avoid it (along with the world) spending many many hours in bed as an escape from life and my mind. In October 2020, despite Covid-19 restrictions, I had to take a trip down to London for an ultra sound scan and MRI to rule out ovarian remnant syndrome following my total laparoscopic hysterectomy and BSO in May 2019. I also needed a DEXA (bone density) scan and bloods, so a telephone or video consultation wasn't really an option. Whilst out and about I documented how empty the streets were an...

I inform everyone that I know. Who is or will be in close proximity to me know that I suffer with PMDD. It’s such a horrible disorder. I feel like only one week out the month I feel like myself. I’ve noticed since I’m exercising regularly it helps my mood a lot. I thank God that I have such a great support system. It’s so easy to damage relationships unintentionally.

I had my surgery last Monday... I'm nervous for the weeks to come ... I cried almost all day around Thursday - Saturday ... didn't track cycle super close lately so idk I think it's the drastic dip that effects me more than the hormones themselves idk Feel a little better today... I am so sick of the ups n downs and so are my children family and friends.. Pretty sure I have a hernia from picking up my 9 month old and caring for my other children but I really had no choice :/ which really sucks ..I did my best to have coverage but I have 4 kids so yea ... Just trying to follow instructions the best I can give circumstances Post op appt next week... Wish me luck Thank you for sharing this video... I understand you so much . . I feel the same way about the time wasted etc and the damage I have done to my children that will affect them the rest of their lives from having three diff moms... Crying hysterical depressed n in bed ..,... Rage filled witch .... And then normal nice elated living stable... They haven't even had a good routine cus it changed .. pretty sure this is going to give me relief ... I hope so

35 years I’ve lived with pmdd to date now in perimenopause and it’s hell, I’m hoping when I hit full blown menopause it’s easier without pmdd, my gps are clueless about pmdd only a few weeks ago I asked my doctor if her knew what pmdd was he said no , only when you’ve mentioned it then went onto ask me which doctor diagnosed me , same surgery different doctor and he was lovely he actually looked my symptoms up and I was only diagnosed 8 years ago , I’ve kept a diary for years to track my symptoms it gives me a bit ease knowing I get same symptoms same times of the month

Thanks for such a lovely comment, the word is definitely getting out there. I first started documenting my journey in 2017 because I kept searching online for info and someone who was talking about this but there was nothing and so little info or awareness, but now there is a whole online community of people with pmdd which is fantastic that they have one another's support. The medical community has also come a long way, I have presented at Royal College Nursing and Royal College of Psychiatry conferences and been part of developing resources to support ongoing education and learning. I am on Twitter @PeriodsPower and you would like to connect to talk about perhaps doing some education for your colleagues at work / NHS Trust. Finally good luck with the next stage in your own journey, I am so glad you got the diagnosis you needed to start to heal x

Still cyclical? I bet it's the LH. Even without ovaries your brain raises LH extremely high because your brain is still trying to tell your body to ovulate. That's what worries me and keeps me from getting my ovaries removed.

Hi Emily, Just recently come across all your videos, one in particular that has possibly given me the missing piece/answer to my Pmdd journey, journey sounds to nice so il say journey slash suffering :( I’m in the Uk and most possibly heading towards having a total hysterectomy myself, I just wondered is there a way to contact you directly for questions, advice etc? Is this a possibility? I’m under a specialist consultant but the lack of care, help and advice has been non existent to be completely honest, it would be nice, also reassuring to engage with someone who has lived and breathed this experience first hand Hope your well :) x

I’m so pleased you finally got your diagnosis and the treatment that worked for you. I have spent many years suffering with PMDD with no diagnosis, I saw an article on it about 3 years ago and felt like I was reading about myself! I approached my GP who referred me to gynaecology and after trying various contraceptive pills to try and balance my hormones I eventually went on to GNRH agonists with add back HRT which made a huge difference. After 18 months it is no longer working for me and I’m having the laparoscopic total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oopherectomy next week. I’m apprehensive because of the changes that may happen to my body but I know it’s for the best. Thank you for sharing your story, it has helped me to see that I am making the right choice and it will be a relief to be able to move on with my life at 45 years old

Im 39 but was diagnosed with PMDD at 19. PMDD is a Nightmare! Feels like Im a 'Jekyl & Hyde'.. Mind you I already have Social Anxiety, PTSD & Major Depression. The Week before my menstrual feels like Im Losing my mind. I feel extremely aggressive full of Rage(thats not me), Anti-Social(I dont want to talk to nobody not even my family), Isolation, Crying Spells, Suicidal, Self Harm, Binging on Food or P.I.C.A(Chalk or Sandlike Substances) Obsessive thoughts of Death & other Bad things, Extremely Fatigued, Easily Confused, Memory Problems and so forth. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy! I don't recognize the person I am on PMDD, sort of like a stranger takes over my body. Its like temporary Bi-polar disorder. So glad people are talking about this because for a long time I felt all a lone and some Doctors aren't knowledgeable about PMDD so they brush it off like its nothing. Thank You for this!

Hi 🙂 Ok 2 questions that i would like to ask you are 1. Did you have migrene more often before the surgery than after the surgery? 2. You said your moods are better now. How do the symptoms affect your mood now when you still get these symptoms that you were talking about? I guess before the surgery the moods got influenced more by the symptoms. How is it now? Do the symptoms have a smaller affect on your moods? Thank you and be well

5 years and can still not regulate my hormones... It is a trade off and not a cure. I do regret having it all taken away at 37... It's not the answer to severe pmdd in my case. Grief is huge but I did not want anymore kids*.... I relate and I am extremely sad about it... Really angry,a waste of my life since I was 10. All the gas lighting all the no one knows what's happening or generally cares. No one cares where I am or how I feel.... That's painful ....
