I am a Christian that is struggling with faith, so I want to say why Christian metal is my favorite genre. Contemporary Christian artists may bring up dark subject matter in between songs with a 15 to 45 minute sermon, followed by yet another generic 4 chord song with 15 band members and 9 guitarists. Demon Hunter and Impending Doom are bands that I resonate with more because they are more open about the brutality about the human condition and that faith is NOT AN EASY THING. I am a person that HATES aggressive positivity. And the Christian music you hear on Smile FM is the very stuff that is Drowning the average suburban neighborhood into thinking everything is just perfectly fine. I've been bullied all my life for my faith. By "believers" and the ones who aren't. Despite my views not being extreme, everyone treats me like I am, and that's why I resonate with bands like these so much.

My first exposure to alternative Christian music was DC Talk. Rock/Rap 90s music. I'm still obsessed.

Anyone who may not have heard "HOLY NAME": This is my Favorite Christian Metal Band. Whoever hasn't heard them and has a sincere Love For Christ and worshipping YEHOVAH you want to hear them ... They are Amazing !

Look up revorum ib malacht. They used to be satanic and studied catholicism in order to mock it, only to end up being professing christians later

Don't forget Tourniquet (RIP Ted Kirkpatrick). I'm by no means a christian, but their music has been an influence on my own musical inclinations. And got me into metal period.

Since you're pretty clearly more into the "core" side of things: In the Midst of Lions, Sleeping Giant, For Today, Haste the Day are all really really good. More towards standard metal genres you have: Pantokrator, Tourniquet, Theocracy, Crimson Moonlight, Believer, and if you like the old cheesy sounding metal you've got the classics Stryper and Petra.

There is a new artist named Fyrebrand who is a big Demon Hunter fan and has even done a cover of Undying. His original music is also great and he mentions Jesus in some of his songs including a song called No Vice. Definitely worth a listen.

I felt relief when i found HolyName. I'm a drummer and I've loved metal due to extreme musicianship and playing. It was tough for me because i would have to scan lyrics to make sure I'm not listening to black metal talking about antichrist, etc. Thank you for highlighting Christian Heavy Metal!

Hey I seen a message or video a guy was deep into satan and he was realky possessed and was high ranking member in the satanic seen. Well sonehow he started feeling like ge wanted delivered and satan foubd out. He said he got cgaibed up and his spirit was in lije the astrial realm or sonething.. He was explaing wat he seen i cant remember everything but he said he seen so called Christians that were musicians and they ended up there cause tgeir music was secular soubding and when the singers changed their voice it wasny actually tgem it was a demon..Ge said these so called christians were continually forced to swallow a 3 bladed sword tgat were actually serpants...He was hinting they were metal musicians... here is the Deal I play 7 and 8 string guitars I write the most Brutal Pro Word of God lyrics, I am bought by the blood of Jesus Christ, I absolutely believe in the Holy Spirit and am baptised in the Holy Spirit.. There's no genre that has even come close to connecting me to Abba or reinforced purpose and inspiration like metal. Been looking for more to add to a rotation so I'll be checking the couple you mentioned that I hadn't heard about. 🤜 Its also what I blast through a Bluetooth speaker while on ruck marches. 😎

For Impending Doom, check out the song Satanic Panic. Their song Murderer got me into them. My go to bands for Christian Metal are Impending Doom, For Today, and August Burns Red. ABR puts on an awesome show. Saw them twice and I highly recommend seeing them live.

I just started to listen to Impending Doom and Becoming The Architect and I don’t know why it took me this long to listen to them. I been a fan of Demon Hunter since their first album, I also love For Today, Phineas, Stryper, Wolves At The Gates. GOD IS GOOD!!

Impending Doom is Deathcore music and they are great. Other good Christian Metal bands are Diamonds To Dust and also A Secret Ending.
