Saphos Classic Steam Train Trip. The English Riviera 10th Aug 2024
Mum and I travelled on the Saphos classic steam train experience from Swindon UK to Dartmouth. A diesel Locomotive hauled us to Taunton, Somerset where the locomotive was switched to the Mayflower LNER Thomson class B1 No 61306 (built 1848)
Our journey took us through Somerset and around the South Devon Coast arriving at Kingswear where we disembarked and travelled via a short passenger ferry crossing to Dartmouth. The superyacht Aviva owned by British Businessman Joe Lewis was moored in Dartmouth Harbour. We spend approximately 3 hours in Dartmouth soaking up the atmosphere before returning to our train and a relaxing journey homewards in the comfortable and elegant pullman dining carriage E.
A very special day to remember.

Join us as we visit the capital of Galicia. Santiago de Compostela is best known as the destination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes (Way of St James). The emotion is palpable as the pilgrims reach the Cathedral. The city's old town is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site and we had the added bonus of attending a free outdoor classical concert.

I visited Lugo early June 2023. The walls of Lugo were built in the 3rd century AD to defend the Roman town of Lucus.
