Akira Kurosawa writes his own scenario and draws an image board. Beautiful, cool, and profound. he can really do everything. There is a part that is connected to Japanese director Hideo Kojima.
勝新太郎の時代の俳優は皆、自然でリアルで見事な演技をしていたのに、現代の俳優が演じる着ぐるみ映画は堅苦しくて型にはまっていて、全く自然ではなく、ひどすぎる。
Infernal Affair comes in 3 parts... Have to watch all
8:08 - it might have been an accident in the sense they didn't plan it that way but it is hella realistic. This is actually what it looks like when jugulars / carotid is severed.
Somewhere on this list, Twilight Samurai certainly belongs.
What a ridiculous video, unmatchable crap
Bravo, and thank you!
calling The Hidden Fortress, "the movie that inspired StarWars" is like calling Shakespeare the theatre that inspired Arthur Miller. As you say, modestly, its so much more than that. An understatement really.
Samurai=Cheating Chinese marshal art
The sound is like a mental asylum
As someone who does not care where a film is made l find this strange cos the mindset you are addressing is closed. If you have an open mind you will always enjoy more variety not just in cinema but everything else.
We are just shedding light on movies people normally never discuss because they are not mainstream. Being open minded is literally the whole point of the channel 🤦♂
@@foreignfilmsessays I come from a different cultural perspective where it is completely normal to watch non Hollywood movies. It’s also one where people know Africa is a continent not a country and most have a passport. Americans will not watch foreign movies unless they reorient their whole world view. Good luck with trying to educate them
this is not an essay, not even a summary... you're not even making a comment, a statement etc. you'rejust making videos to get views by using the name of the movie. the most meaningless thing i've ever watched.
I absolutely loved "Sword of Doom"
What about Lone Wolf and Cub? There were some very noteworthy fight scenes.
The killers are ukrainians
TOP MAN IS OUR ZATOCHI
Not as disturbing as the Polish movie The Hatred. That one made me in shock for some time. But yeah Come and see is definitely one of those disturbing ones. Great cinematography btw
I didn’t see the movie, just this short video and it crushed my soul. The most powerful anti war film I have seen.
the answer is: v e r y ❤
In common sense, blind is the worst factor as a katana fighter. Means Zathoichi is not a real but some symbol of resist spirit of ruled people by katana, samurai.
Fantastic thank you
Throne of Blood is a Japanese version of Shakespeare’s MacBeth including ghosts & witches.
My Brother-in -Law & I used to watch Samurai shows, on Saturday nights, just like our Western TV series of the 50-60’s most in black & White. One featured a blind Swordsman another a traveling masseuse Swordsman another a gaudy loud & flashy well-dressed Swordsman. All of course used their swords for good & featured well-done & well-rehearsed fight scenes. Most were in Japanese but like watching soap-operas. You can pretty much figure out what’s happening by watching them beginning to end.
nice video, but anime is reference the origen, like champagne ( France)or the cheese -parmesano, gouda...) the corean films are not anime. there animation style anime

Hi - really enjoying your content! One thing in regard to this video, which is otherwise excellent, is that Suspiria is not a giallo film. It seems over the past decade or two, the term giallo has come to be synonymous with any Italian film with bloody murder set-pieces. However, gialli are very specifically murder mysteries, generally a police procedural, without any overt supernatural elements. If you look further, there is a lot written out there on this very subject; Suspiria is a departure-point from gialli for Argento [to briefly return with Tenebre, and a few lesser films much later in his career].
Fair point 🤝🏾 Thanks for watching
@@foreignfilmsessays You're very welcome - great channel and content!
you had me at Zato...
Please i want some more.
For me, the scariest anime is the grave of the fireflies. Although the story isn't actually scary, I'm scared of the idea to watch it again...
Akira is scary? One of the scariest? 🤦♂️
I'm a new fan and I hope you get rich from UA-cam
You have a cool accent and you are very funny I don't have to explain anime to you you already know what it is
For anyone wanting to add a couple more honorable mentions to this great list -- I highly recommend "Shiki" and "Serial Experiments Lain".
I have to rent that, the ending was something else.
Belladonna of Sadness is amazingly beautiful!! a masterpiece! i recommend to anyone!
ill take ya up on that Kawajiri deep dive !!
Zato is not lowest rank in society, in these movies and series it means masseuse. ua-cam.com/video/UqgXFS3aYK4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SAMURAIVSNINJA
Always in groups. A cultural affectation.
you forgot HILE GERIMA from ethiopia
They are amazing. Watch anyone of the over 20 and its going to be good. He is a bad ass but he is funny as hell at the same time. I mean the guy flicks a booger in some jerks tea when he isnt looking. He is smoking a pipe in one movie and a guy starts messing with him and he blows the burning tobacco out and it shoots into the guys eyeball. All the girls love him but he always leaves them hanging. The series is just as good also
A thought regarding other incarnations of Godzilla on film, covering the span of everything you mention in both this video, and the previous one: I do think that the reincarnation of Godzilla as protector, as nature, as a slightly goofy hero is sort of a way to redigest something which was, let's face it, born from trauma. Embracing things that could or have destroyed us, or framing them within fantasy, reinventing them with a silver lining - all of these can also be really effective ways to deal with and process terror and trauma. See Guillermo del Toro's Chronos, Devil's Backbone and Chronos in particular for example. Additionally, Japan's own embracing of the character as a cultural icon also fits not only for all of the above, but for the economic and (film) industrial bridges it built with the rest of the world, namely the US itself (see direct domino effect of this leading to cyberpunk/ Blade Runner tropes of depicting Asian/ Japanese corporate, technological and economic growth/ power). I think, and this isn't an original thought, in many ways Godzilla can be seen as a hero in that way, too. Children cheering for Godzilla as a hero? Possibly yet another way to process and navigate the multi-generational trauma preceding that era as well. (also, marketability... sigh) Personally, I enjoy both. I enjoy Gojira/ Godzilla films for their horror, as well as giving us the opportunity to side with those (existential) horrors. It's easier to sit with that which fascinates us as well as terrifies us if we can also laugh at them at the same time, you know? Kind of how when we sit around with our friends and/or family telling horrible stories from our childhoods while having a laugh. Same for grief and other pain. Sometimes you just have to smile or laugh with it. The horror of inevitable destruction made incarnate as a vehicle for our processing of it. Other times morbid curiosity prevails, and we can't help but immerse ourselves in those existential fears - Alien, Annihilation and other films like them come to mind. Those which thrive on weaponizing our place in an incomprehensibly vast unknowable universe and what might be awaiting us simply for existing in it.
Amazing video, amazing channel.
I agree with you. But definitely add devil man 🦇
most of my favorites were on here and the whole time I'm thinking I'm gonna suggest Perfect Blue then its number 1 😂. Great list.

This is real anime. Not that dragon ball z, high school super hero bullshit all the dorks watch.
Yo - anime just means animation - just a foreign word for animation - Shrek is an anime..........if you mean Japanese animated movie - the word is and has always been MANGA! Can't wait till people get it right!
Or not
