Whether in the passenger seat or walking around, come along with me for the ride as I meet people and not only show their cars, but also share their own unique stories. The more we learn about each other, the more we learn about ourselves. I've always been interested in cool and unique cars, but have found myself even more intrigued by the people behind the wheel of these cars. Their stories have plenty of range. From humorous to nostalgic as well as educational, I'm honored to have the opportunity to not only listen to these stories, but to share them as well. I hope that I can help you focus on not only the car but also the people. So sit back and enjoy the ride because you never know what you'll learn when the camera is rolling and the conversations begin to unfold. My intention is for you to be entertained as well as have your eyes opened to things you've never seen nor heard so that you will be inspired to pursue whatever you've been wanting to do, but haven't. What's your story?

Every now and then, I get a phone call from someone who either has a bus or inherited a bus that has been sitting for quite a long time. This bus was one of those cases. Sitting in an airplane hangar for over a decade, it’s time to bring the bus back to life. Let’s check it out before doing anything to it just to assess the originality of it and what it could potentially need. I already know it...

A buddy had a '69 he inherited from his dad. Gotta watch you don't rest your knee against the shifter I remember. I worked for a VW dealer for a few years but I forget.... was this what they called the Saxomat?
Woops... Should have read one comment down for the answer to that question.
@@dlittlester very cool. I’m not quite sure. I’ll have to ask, but I don’t think so. I have heard that term but not in relation to VW. I’ll do a little bit of research.
Fun fact the car with the light up tires those were originally available for a very very short time to the public back in the 60s but they're prone to getting hard and cracking and it never really caught on😊
@@evilbeetlekustomscreations4965 awesome! I was wondering if those were custom or what. Man, if they were available today, I think they would be a hit!
Nice cab Eddy. Happy new year 🎉 and best wishes.
that is a true daily driver
Super rad ! Love to see older VW rolling around. Thx -
@@baldeagle3161 yeah this car is really nice too! It’s just cool to see her driving it when the weather is nice. She ditches the modern car and all of its amenities for her beloved Volkswagen.
I have a RHD CKD 51 Split from South Africa.
I would love to see it! I’ve owned 3 RHD VWs in my life: 63 standard microbus, 63 highroof, and a 66 highroof.
I don’t understand the air cooled world anymore. All kinds of money on engine, transmission, wheels, brakes but modern sport seats and belts never.
I can understand your point of view, but by the same token, that’s what makes this hobby so much fun. I personally like all stock and original cars. But I also like it when people put their own personal touch to things. Some people like to just cruise the way they did back in the 50s and others like to fly down a highway at 85+ miles per hour, inches from the ground and no seatbelt. The best part of this hobby however are the people. At the end of the day, everyone is cool to each other no matter what your style is.
Hey Eddy ! you pulled it off !
@@jimmywilkinson9190 thanks to the super cool puller 🤙
Hi Eddy, I had a very similar extractor to remove wide five drums - they are worth every penny 👍👍 I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and all the best for the coming year. Keep up with 'Collins TV' 😁
Thank you so much and I hope you have a nice Christmas as well! And yes, this puller is something I’ve always wanted and just found it this past October.
Were you able smack the shoes throught the wheel bolt holes before using the the puller tool? Also tip for the hub nuts, they can be replaced with t2 locking nuts.
Thanks for commenting. I wasn’t able to get the shoes to budge even when hitting them. The adjuster screw actually moved within the star but it was the star that wouldn’t budge. The way the shoes were flexing made me think there would be a “bang” moment, but nope. And yes, the T2 solution is a good one!
YUP disc brakes, Remove and reseal engine after hearing it run, Reseal trans or rebuild......by Ventura and freeway fly it...if you have them rebuild the trans have Ventura show you how to put on 1 piece axle boots. They last a lot longer....Rear new shoes and axle seals....By the way Empi axle boots seem to be holding up longer than the german Febi ones. My last 2 sets did not last even 2 years. Empi ones have been on there 2 years now and no issues.
The disc brakes are less money too, a few hundred dollars, when you take into consideration the cost of new, German drum components and German hydraulics. Plus you have better brakes in the end. Regarding the axle boots, I’ve been sticking OE VW of Mexico and they seem to be pretty good.
Bus is in good hands 👍🏼👍🏼
I will take good care of it!
Eddy you have family in Guatemala?! Same here bud! We primos!
Si señor!
Great interview Eddy, and a great car !
Thanks man! Really appreciate it. And yeah, super cool car.
can you put a type3 full auto into a type1?
No.The transmission housing is too big to fit into frame horns.
Ron Fleming is a Legend in the VW scene! Thanks for doing this video!

What was the E67 mirror (rear view) ? How do you feel about adding the two windows and deluxe molding trim to make this a deluxe ?

@@zedmadeamps he did before we left. I saw that too and thought OMG
dude you should do a will it run video on this. Might go VIRAL.... film the process. Check battery, Key, sprark. fuel. all that....They do really well on UA-cam.
Yeah, that’s the plan. Gotta go through this thing the first I want to get the thing to roll on its own. Right now, I’m using gojaks.
they should have your upholstery guy do the seats similar to the original or have you pull some new OG covers and coconut foam over the springs.
Dude, I would love to go ahead and put OG seat covers on the seats and really make it look like a time warp type of car. However, the owner has these vivid memories of cruising in it with his dad just the way it is so I’m sure he probably will not want to go ahead and change it
One of the things many people did back in the day is put those big mirrors on the busses.
It’s funny dude, but I actually like these mirrors. I’ve never seen some that are ribbed like this.
@@EddyCollins-TZN168 .my 67 sundial had mirrors like this, from the late 80s - they went along with the Sears, Weather Beater, WHITE WALL, snow tires.

Then you must’ve really enjoyed this ride.
Nice to see a positive take on the autostick. I have a trike with an autostick, a Fastback with the full automatic, and a 1964 Bug with a Saxomat (precursor to the autostick with a centrifugal clutch instead of a torque converter). I've got a couple videos on my channel about the Fastback and older videos of the Saxomat. I picked up a '59 Bug that I plan on swapping in another Saxomat and hope to do some more in depth videos on it.

Thank you very much Mr. Rick Johnson, for sharing your beautiful car. And of course, thanks to you too Mr. Eddy Collins. What surprised me the most about this car is that during the drive, my hearing noted that it didn't sound like the Beetles that we all know and have been familiar with. An interesting observation, years back I was told by a Volkswagen restorer that the beetles from the 1950s were a much more solid car and had a better build than what would come in the 1960s. Based on my hearing (again) I'd have to say that he was right. I'm not hearing even the slightest rattle in this car. Amazing! I find myself wondering which engine this car has. Would it be an 1100 cc?
@@discerningmind so glad that you were able to hear all of the sound. With regard to the stoutness of these early cars, I believe it was definitely there more so than the later cars. Especially these transmissions. Since they did not have Synkro in them they had to definitely be stronger.
Thanks so much Eddy!! Loved that 914 !! Glad you had fun!🎉

Hi Eddy, Thank you for taking us to this years' SEMA. What an amazing show and so many cool cars. 👍👍 BTW: The black Porsche 911 Targa Hybrid with the color stripes follows the design scheme of Mr. Rainer Buchmann ("bb" Tuning) who has been a very famous Porsche tuner in the 70's in Germany. As far as I know Mr. Buchmann has re-issued some of his Porsche design ideas and this 911 is one of them. Thank you again for this video.
