A Day in a Macaw's Life (+ Toy Making)
Sooooo I'm finally making a UA-cam! This is a look into Vero's every day life. Vero is a military macaw (Ara militaris) who does not know how to fly, and is a rescue who had been found in a box by the side of the road a few years ago. Macaws are not good pets - I will be the first to say it - but those in captivity deserve the best care possible. It's a lot of work!
I happened to be making a bunch of new toys this week (or rather, revamping old ones), so today was a great day to give you more insight into what it takes to be a macaw owner. If you have any feedback or questions, please comment down below; I'm definitely still figuring out how to do this, and I'd love to know what other content you'd like.
Shoutout to Tyler for filming, editing, and telling me 1000x to not be so self-conscious (and not allowing me to re-do everything, because otherwise, I'd have never finished.

Military Macaws

A video originally recorded for Mrs. Davidson at Lupine Montessori School, this is a quick video about differences between macaws in the wild vs. in captivity.
So glad to see how well you have rehabilitated him. Hats off to you ❤
my guy loved your video! well done, good info.
Hello cutie , and hello parrot
I would check out birdtricks
Hes really cute and gentle with you!
Have you ever come across a source of clay lick?
太漂亮😻
He has a really good personality.
Nice lovely
I’m a huge fan . I love your patience with birds. Your bird is lucky too ! I dream of having a Macaw one day 🙏🏽
I'm very glad you've made videos like this. I'm starting to think that I'm not in a position to adopt a macaw. I didn't realize just how much work one of these birds takes.
Are military macaws easier or harder than other macaw varieties?
Wonderful so lovely
What a beautiful bird!!!!!
Its name derives from the military personnel who brought them back to Europe. It also alludes to their olive green coloring that resembles "military green."
Nic
😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍
Is there anyway for me to contact you? I don’t want to say on this platform, but I also have a military macaw and I have a very urgent question. I live in Memphis, TN.
Hi! just wondering what brand that large cage is....I really like it
I'm actually not sure, I'm sorry! I bought it second hand.
i think there is a set of criteria for someone that make parrots great pets. first one is to always be at home
Did you know?they were named that because they are Military green and soilders came back with them from the war
I hope you make more parrot videos.
This video deserves more likes! 👏
Thank you for making this video! I was looking for facts about military macaws so I can learn more about my military macaw! 💗🦜💗 This video is very informative 👌 👏 👍 Thank you! :3
Lovely
Is he free flighted?
He is not - his wings are not clipped, but I'm guessing they were when he was young, because he has never learned how to fly.
It warms my heart that you took care of this macaw after he was found on the side of the road. I prefer them roaming free in the wild in Mexico and South America. But this one wouldn't even survive there anymore and is in good hands
I noticed none of the girls I dated over the 15 years I had a lovebird cared for him... at all. Do you become undatable when you become a macaw owner? 😂 lol. Great video on Militaries! Excellent showcase of what its like having a relationship with a parrot! He really wants you to stop talking to that stupid camera and give him 110% of your attention which is probably good for people to see too! Having a single parrot is very different from having two or more!
Haha thanks! My boyfriend DID meet me long after I got him, and has since moved in, so it's not impossible. :)
@@emilyg2014 YES!! lol didnt expect a response to that but hey, thats actually really good to know because I'm wanting to dive into the aviculture industry and was worried i might end up a crazy bird man by the end of it all! 😆
Hello hope you're doing well. I like your bird's set up. Hope you will be doing more content soon
I’ve been to a restaurant that rescues abused tropical birds and acts a sanctuary for them. They have a military macaw named Courtney. Not sure if Courtney is a boy or a girl, but I know they like to dance! Beautiful birds.
That is amazing I would love to work there or visit there. Do you remember where it is?
@@rosy8330 It’s in Arizona, Chandler specifically.
Nice video! One way to improve video quality from here would be to make sure your transitions between cuts are smooth. At 2:30, the audio suddenly gets a lot louder, and there are similar changes in audio level at 23:36 and 24:40
Thank you; I appreciate it! I need to get one recording device specifically for these videos so I'm not trying to mesh stuff together that comes from various phone camera microphones haha. Hopefully that'll help!
Vero is the best boy! Awesome job with the first big video!
Aw thanks, girl!
Gotta let him finish his nut ya know
Vero is the coolest bird ever
He certainly believes that lol.
how did you get that millitary macaw
He was originally found in a box on the side of the road. A friend of mine had him for about a year, and then couldn't take care of him anymore. I've had him ever since!
Someone dumped him on the side of the road and after rescuers found him she took care of him. Illegal trade still happens in South and Mesoamerican countries till this day and along with habitat loss it reduced their populations. This one won't survive in the wild anymore, but I am glad that someone is taking care of him
I have oneee !!!!! We assume is a girl , where do u stay at? My bird is called nena
Cage tour and day in a life please!
Very beautiful bird
Thank you!
Interesting info.
Is he or she
Vero is a boy. :)
@@emilyg2014 from were you get him
@@icantthinkofaname-by2kz he was originally found abandoned in a box by the side of the road. A friend of mine had him for about 18 months before realizing a parrot was not for him, and then convinced me to take him, as a "trial," since I didn't want to totally commit. Now it's been 2 years! :)
I wonder if military macaw and hyacinth macaw can make hybrid
@@icantthinkofaname-by2kz probably, but there aren’t many hyacinth hybrids
Oh my gosh, your bird is so adorable!! His body language is excellent, he’s content and fluffing his feathers throughout the entire video. You clearly have a wonderful relationship with him and he trusts you a lot. His feathers are lustrous and his body is in great condition. It makes me so happy seeing a bird so well taken care of, good on you!!
Thank you so much! He's the best. :)
vkdcccc
What an amazing video!! I agree with you that parrots don’t make good pets, but there are plenty that need to be rescued and provided for so that’s always good. Your baby boy is absolutely beautiful! Just stunning!! Thank you for making this video! 💕🙏
Thank you! I've been very humbled in all of the positive responses. :)
Goes to show you just how much they AREN’T good for pets because I hear of people finding them abandoned in similar situations like the box you described earlier a lot! People are at their wits end with the incessant screaming, hormonal issues or other behavioral problems that come along with captive birds!
For sure! They can be super fun and rewarding, but it's hard to imagine the type of life you're signing up for when you get one. When people want to get one, I recommend fostering or volunteering somewhere with them first.
Thank you so much
You're welcome!
Ok I've decided my macaw is weird, he doesn't talk doesn't try, doesn't bother about music, doesn't love showers hell do it but looks miserable..I don't force him ..I free fly him and he lives for getting out to fly ..#inlove
My macaw never uses his outside voice inside till he heard your bird..I'm in Ireland..my macaw free flys ..I uploaded a couple of videos on my UA-cam channel go sub me back ..I'll beupliasing more when spring hits because it's a bit cold to fly right now, we still go out but for a quick fly..its also a bit cold for showers we only do it 2c a week because it's a whole deal of getting a room extra warm ..he got a little cold once when wet it took me weeks to get him to shower again ..I got my bathroom done so he can walk in ..
Aw, cute! Someday I hope to be able to teach Vero how to fly, and try free flight. But he's a long way from that right now!
Bad example !!!
no u
Not hipocrit discurs... Freedom now !!!
Can't survive in the wild sadly
Freedom for the bird !!!
Unfortunately, Vero was captive bred and would not survive in the wild. I do not support captive breeding of parrots, but he is in captivity now and so he must be taken care of as well as possible.
