Joan Morgan - Screen Actress - Talks
Переглядів 1187 років тому
This short documentary on the life of silent screen actress Joan Morgan was shot in 1994 and was the heartfelt work of TV Director Paul Bernard (Dr Who Director, The Time Monster, Day of the Daleks and Frontier in Space). I had the pleasure of being the camera assistant and editor on this programme, which was recorded onto High-Band SP and enhanced in the years gone by. Joan was a delightful lady,

It is currently undergoing a £49 million regeneration, by which the Grade 2 listed Devonshire Park Theatre, Winter Garden and Congress Theatre are being rejunevanted and restored to former glory and being joined by a brand new Welcome Building - a wedge shaped structure that will sit betw...

Patrick Moore's Scott Saunders in Outer Space
Переглядів 50311 років тому
We had the great privilege of working with Patrick in 1988 on a pilot television programme based on his series of children's books about Scott Saunders, Space Cadet. Unfortunately, the show did not get commissioned and, of course, has now dated. Nevertheless, we post it here for your enjoyment and as our tribute to a great man.

Sean the Leprechaun - 'All Aboard' (audio story)
Переглядів 3,3 тис.13 років тому
Sean the Leprechaun was a much loved tv series from the 1960s. Unfortunately, no episode seems to remain anywhere, but six 7" vinyl audio stories were released. Here is one of them. Charles Witherspoon narrates (as he did the TV show) and the lovely theme that likely haunts kids of that era to this day is by Stanley Wyllie. The video above gives coverage of the vinyl record sleeve, and enough d...

That witch scared me to death!!
I was a bit too young to remember this but I was always called woodgnome as a kid by my family....they still call me woodgnome to this day and I'm 55...😂
Hi chris!
I was the editor of this!
Was that the 200 year old piece of Tibetan cheese Simon famously bought for £1000 in a sotheby's auction? He made headlines across the world at the time iirc. They apparently only intended to spend a few hundred but a rival bidder from a French cheese museum kept trying to outbid them pushing the price up. Hilarious show. Sadly ruined by over zealous itc finger waggers and the ITV region (stv) who oversaw production pushing the original producers out through an insistence of making a series of dreadful changes - which resulted in much of the original cast of characters leaving after the Christmas break in series 2 (including Simon).. Series three was almost a complete format change. The wolves and Baljit were the only remaining puppet characters - voiced by different actors lacking the comic timing and chemistry of the original actors. Yvette ultimately left during the midway point of the following series without explanation... The original format and lineup was classic Saturday morning tv .
Yvette lost her composure after Casies rice pudding quip. That show was very mucky! No wonder they apparently attracted so much attention from tv regulators! Haha.
This was one of my favourite Kids tv shows in the 60s 😊
Absolutely brilliant thanks for this memory, can you imagine this on the tv😮 😅
So scary still remember over half a century later😮 😂
Fanx🎉
The very first show I remember seeing on TV. On an old second hand set my mum got us.
Paulus the forest gnome(Paulus de Boskabouter) is a Dutch text comic series and children's book series, written and drawn from 1946 to 1984 by Jean Dulieu, a pseudonym of Jan van Oort, He drew the first Paulus comic strip in Het Vrije Volk a newspaper in 1946. The series quickly became a success and was also published in book form. A radio radio play series and a television puppet series followed later. The booklets were translated into serval languages. From 1955 to 1964 Paulus the forest gnome was broadcast as a radio play. Dulieu did all the voices himself, From 1967 onwards, Dulieu made 39 Paulus de Boskabouter puppet films of 10 minute for the Dutch NTS (Nederlandse Televisie Stichting) program Monitor. For this he made all the puppets, sets and attributes himself. were also broadcast in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada and Australia I was a little...a little...very afraid of Eucalypta the witch when it was broadcast in black and white television in 1967 nightmare, wetting the bed and looking under the bed Oehoeboeroe the owl was also scary, And still today when i see Eucalypta i get the shivers
Wow that owl sure looks like Dennis Healy lol
This witch detroyed my life l9l
The old witch reminds me of my first wife 😬
we had such a laugh back then not sure how we got away with it...best days of my career..
Oh I've found it ....used to watch this as a kid 🥰
Transports me right back to my childhood
I watched this as a tiny girl. Thanks for the memory. It's amazing to see the only surviving episode
these were the best tv days of my life. rehearsals on the Friday were hilarious ....
Remember watching this as a kid and being totally freaked out by the witch 😱🧙🏼♀
i loved working on this show the rehearsals on the Friday before were hilarious. best live tv days of my life...
I’ve asked a question, on the subject of a cartoon I remember was shown on this, and no one’s responded. I said, it definitely wasn’t ‘Gravedale High’. Whatever it was called, it would have to be a Warner Bros. animated series, for it to be shown on this (and, I reiterate, I definitely didn’t just dream of this show - it definitely did exist - I used to see it on Saturday mornings, on ITV, in 1993, although would have to be the Saturdays from the 2nd of January to the 1st of May, as the latter was the last Saturday of 1993, pre-September, ‘What’s Up Doc’ was shown) [and, BTW, I did already say I’m not the same as shermanvermin76].
I recall a show called The Anamaniacs being included in What's Up Doc, but it might not be this. Can you remember the premise of the cartoon? Give me a few dates of the shows it would definitely be featured in and I'll open the archives to search.
@@theukarchivist Definitely not Animaniacs (the description I gave, of this cartoon, is in my comment in response to Jonny Lazertooth) [in response to your question about the premise of the cartoon]. I reiterate, I’m aware it was definitely shown on ‘What’s Up Doc’ because, on these Saturday mornings, from 1993 (18 of them - the 2nd of January to the 1st of May), ‘What’s Up Doc’ is what was shown on ITV.
@@theukarchivist Sorry to pester you, but I’ve said as much I can remember, about the show whose name I don’t know. If you need me to give you the show’s description, that I said in my comment to Jonny Lazertooth, I can and I will. I did say what Saturday mornings, of January to the first Saturday of May 1993, I saw this (on ‘What’s Up Doc’). I did tell you that the show definitely wasn’t Animaniacs (in fact, 1993’s the only year I saw this show, whatever its name was; I never saw it post-1993) [though it could have been made pre-1993, hence I saw reruns of it, on ‘What’s Up Doc’].
@@theukarchivist It’s OK, I finally found the name of the show - it *definitely was* ‘Gravedale High’ (and, being a Warner Bros show, it makes sense that it was shown on ‘What’s Up Doc’).
Imagine if today you had a children's program where the main character Smoked a pipe
Did Spike Milligan do the voice of Paulus?🤣🤣🤣
I believe the English version was done by the prolific Peter Hawkins (voice of Bill and Ben and many more childrens' characters.
It was a joke...
Glad I found this, the theme has been in my head for years………at least 55!!! Does sound like the genius Sir Spike Milligan…..
This is of course a Maidstone Production and Maidstone is famous for loving humour that upsets your mum!
These two puppeteers went on to do Live and Kicking. And playing the Hyenas in Ministry of Mayhem.
Maximus GITTUS. Why did the producers pass that?
The producers resigned after a series and a half after they refused to tone the humour down.
Sandy Ross Head of Scottish Television didn't.
This show is a weird fever dream.
One of my earliest memories of tv. Great to see. Always remembered the theme tune
I remember this no one else I no remembers it scared shit out of me I was about 4 or 5 wen I watched it lol it was brilliany
The instant that music starts a shiver goes down my spine. Eukalypta's jaw - and her flying towards you - nothing has ever been so scary. I must have been about 3 when this was on TV in the UK. Each episode, from what I remember, used to be Eukalypta chasing Paulus, with Paulus not taking it seriously and probably me shouting "She's coming!!" at the TV. 54 years ago yet I remember this so clearly.
Yes, that witch used to scare the shit out of me too, Andy Pandy was much safer.
Just terrible, as bad and ridiculous as when I first saw it as an 8 year old. Not sure why there is nostalgia for this.
Your obviously a miserable git
This whole film though is longer than the combined footage there was of the Wolves interacting with the shows host.
That was fabulous 👌
Great times. Modern tv wouldn't have the balls to put a show like this on as we have become such a politically correct nation.
The Tortoise was terrifying as a kid lol
I’m still looking for that scene where Pat Sharp is stuck in an elevator with a lot of the puppet cast; including the wolves. One of them farts and Pat yells “I said think, not stink! Who did that!?”.
Didn’t they ban this ? Very scary from memory , creepy looking puppets
Born in 67 I remember this aged around 4-5 for years old many years later I thought it was called Boris the Bole or some thing like that nice to have found it again around 2018
I remember this series from 1969. The last time I listened to it before today was 22nd December 1969. Mixed emotions listening to it again.
I have loved this since I first saw it 6 years ago, and it is still one of my favorite Little Shows. I wish there were more episodes in English, but I'm grateful to have this one!
Memories
I was scared as a child of the witch and I’m now nearly 60 and still freaked out by the witch no one I know remembers this on Uk tv
No wonder life in Britain is so depressing
This is amazing, thank you! So, this was the only one made? Also are there any stories you can share working with him? Thanks.
I can see from diaries of the time that there was a wonderful sense of expectancy as the small crew of about ten awaited the arrival of Patrick, who came to the studio in the central City cul-de-sac of Queens Square in his wonderful old car - a dark green Morris Minor or something similar. There was originally a fault with the autocue, which allowed Patrick to read my script directly to camera, but this was solved shortly and he had no problems remembering and recalling some of the 'pick up' shots beforehand. The telescope featured in the pilot was his, and at lunch break he took great delight in explaining some astronomy and we added a few constellation points to the backdrop outside the small set - no bigger than about 6 metres x 6 metres, with the crew squeezed in behind camera. All shot in a single day over about 7 hours, it was a great day back in March 1988 and Patrick was a joy to work with. A very nice man.
@@VisionforEastbourne Thanks for your kind reply! Yes, a great man
This used to give me nightmares when I was a toddler.
The witch was the only thing on children's TV that ever frightened me.
