Just sharing my scheduled maintenance on my motorcycle that might help new RT riders.
Why not supply torque specs?
Thanks, mate. Very helpful. I had intended to get the bike mechanic to do it but will now do it myself. Cheers!
Can you tell me more about the velcro you have where the GPS receiver mounted?
I'm glad you notice that. Actually you were the first one to ask me that question. Believe me or not it's for holding my iphone. I used a Velcro that holds 15 lbs just to make sure my iphone does not flyaway. I know it looks kind of awkward but it's more convenient for me. Thanks for watching have a wonderful safe ride day.
In the first method. What keep air from being sucked bay in to the caliper? There was air in the bleed tube. Do you let the brake fluid drain by gravity to displace the brake fluid in the drain tube? After the air is displaces it is safe to pump the brake handle. Thanks for the video.l
I'm pretty sure there's no air that got in the system. I also made sure that the trapped air at the bottom of siphon tube didn't get sucked back in to the caliper either. That's the reason why I filled the bottle to at least 1/3. Yes you could open the bleeder to displace the air trapped inside the tube by gravity and then start pumping just like what you're saying. As long as you watch and make sure the trapped air does not get suck back into the caliper it's okay. Thanks for watching have a wonderful safe ride day.
what brand are crashbars they look great. thanks for sharing
Ghee! I don' know if I can even remember. It's been 10 years ago since I installed it. You can try Wunderlich but I'm not so sure, so sorry about that. Anyway they do have a lot of great accessories for beemers. Good luck.
What about balancing the wheel?
Thanks for this. I think I will 3D print the parts I need
Nice, but a couple of things: 1. I wouldn't trust the axle to balance the wheel. If it's stiff at all, especially with grease all over it which causes surface tension, then it won't be accurate. Better to do off bike with a piece of steel bar in a vice or something 2. Tightening your breaks that way may make them drag and not brake as eficiently. You should rotate the wheel while gently squeezing the brake lever until it finds it's home, then tighten up the bolts while holding the lever in to keep it locked in place. It will then run true.
Thanks for the tip it's exactly what I need to do on the brakes, no wonder why it was slipping a little bit. I actually did a rework on the wheel balance with a wheel balancer but I admit I got lazy and did not do the video on it. Again thanks for the advice. Have a great safe ride day.
@@bosconiantrade6181 No worries, I got the tip from David Moss Tuning and always do my brakes that way now. BTW you made the tire removal and install look super easy compared to the nightmare I had. Took over a day to get on and off my Angel GT. I didn't have the bead breaker that you have, just 3 spoons. My neighbour used to be a tyre fitter and even with his help we struggled. Used nearly a whole bottle of dish soap to get it to seat on the bead, taking the pressure up to 70psi, hitting with hammer, bouncing around etc. I don't think I will bother again. It's only 50 quid labour I saved on.
The brake calipers are indexed by sitting over a shoulder so the method you speak of probably won't make a difference but it doesn't hurt if it makes you feel better.
@@andrewloeffler432 Yes they are, but there is still lateral movement since the machined parts are not perfect. They make the shoulders smaller on purpose because of thermal expansion, so there is always wiggle room (literally). Perhaps on later bikes than mine they started to make them so they line up perfectly, but until I get a new bike and find this out, I still need to do it this way.
The specs for how much oil to use in the final drive can easily be found online
Just about to do exactly the same on exactly the same bike - Great video Thanks - Gary Gary's practical workshop
You can also Cover the exhaust header under the oil filter with tin foil - keeps the filter oil from dripping on the pipe.
Hi, Great job, well done. That light's are a kit with everything? Can you tell me the model of auxiliar lights? Regards
It's been a while since I did this video. But all the stuff that I used to make this video were purchased at Amazon. Go to Motorcycle lights and you'll see a bunch of them then you can just match them from the video. People ask me why I used cheaper products for my Beemer .... and I told them I wouldn't spend too much money on a 10 year old bike. If you're having problem searching them let me know. I'll look them up for you. Good luck and have a safe ride day.
This is my reply to comment six. I’m sorry I replied late to you. I didn’t see your comment right away. I hooked up the power from the battery using a 12 V battery wire gauge and I did a research where the tailgates were at from Google. You can also ask for a professional schematic diagram from the dealer or by the professional book from the dealer I didn’t have one. I just did my research on Google Models and might have different wire schematic diagram so you have to be really careful when you’re tracing your schematic diagrams make sure it’s the right wire for the tailgates. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me thank you. Have a wonderful ride safe day.
nice video
thanks,i will do it myself now
What a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing your wonderful walk tour, my friend! 👍
Nice work. Thanks for taking the time to do this so professionally. Which Tires did you put on if you don’t mind me asking?
Sorry for the late reply. I've been very busy for the past few months. the tires you were asking was MICHELIN Road 5 Rear Tire (190/55ZR-17). Most of my maintenance videos have a link below that will bring you directly to the website and specifically refer you to the item. Most of my purchase were from Amazon.
Thanks
So where were the 2 pops as you first inflated the tyre?....sorry tire. It will pop as either side bead crosses the ridges around the wheel.....this way you know it has seated correctly......usually you then reduce pressure to the correct value for riding. Then check the rubber lines around the tyre to see if parallel with rim to make sure its concentric.
Thank you for the tips. I'll do that next time I change the front tire but for the rear one I always bring to the shop to get it pop.
❤
thanks for posting this. I understand you should remove all old weights before balancing a new tire. I wonder if this would make a difference rather than adding more weight, or if you would actually have to all all the old weight then even more? any Ideas?
Since there were only two small weight from previous I didn't bother the hazel to remove them as long as the wheel is balanced dynamically and statically for me it's alright it rides smooth.
The majority of the weights on my wheel are to counterbalance the BMW tire pressure sender. There is no reason to remove those weights just to put them right back on in the same place. When installing a new tire I generally only need to add (or move) a small amount of weight to balance for the new tire. There is no need for the superglue.....my weights stay put with just the double sided tape, and the adhesive cleans up easily when a weight is removed.
Hello i have an question about the gearshift selector . My rt from 2014 lc k52 have some difficulty whit the gear selector . I was going to the car wash then after when im riding to my home the 2/3 vitesse are realy dry and shifter ( whitout clutch ) are no more working. I puth wd40 oil then was more drying all gears are difficult to select . Do you have an solution? I dont wanna go to bmw dealer 😅
I’m not sure what exactly you’re saying but I got the hint that you’re having problems with your gearshift selector when shifting to 2-3 gear. I always use my clutch to shift to 2-3 and only use my gearshift selector when going up to4-5 and 6. Same thing when I’m slowing down doing an engine break from 6-5-4 that’s the only time I use my gearshift selector then I do use my clutch to slow down to the rest of the gears 3-2-1. I do this because it’s smoother when shifting gears between 4-3. As far as removing and replacing the gearshift selector I have not done that. One thing that helped to make smoother gearshift was when I changed my gear oil. If I have an electrical or mechanical problem beyond my capabilities to repair, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring my bike to the dealer they are the experts besides we always want to ride safely. Have a great wonderful safe ride day.
Right , if a have an problem like this i normaly need to go to bmw garage . But its okay i put fat behind the gear selector and now its like before, i shifting normaly.. like you say 1/2/3 whitout clutch it’s difficulty to shifting, 4/5/6 is easy to select whitout the clutch.. and i gonna check the gear oil , maybe need ti change oil also.. so thank you for your awnser sir !
Awesome video, exactly what i needed and to the point.
Awesome...thanks....
Your welcome.
Bought the same set up for my R1250GSA and will do the install in the morning. Appreciate the walk through!
Your welcome. Have a wonderful safe ride day.
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much for video….massively helpful 😃
Im struggling to find the PVC parts in the UK 🧐. Thanks for the video 👌🏽
Great video
What grease do you use on the spacer and quick release shaft? Can I pick that up at the auto parts store?
Auto Zone
Great video. Complete and to the point. I saved it and used it several times for my 2018 RT oil changes. Thumbs Up.
Thank you Ali.
Very detailed! You’re the man! 👍
and you're the Superman!
top!
Hi Bosconian Trade. I just wanted to follow up on your comment to HondaRider. Did you ever receive confirmation whether or not you can hook up the Noco directly to your battery? I use it to trickle charge y battery on a CBR1000RR and to jump it when the battery dies. Which is using the one cable/port that works both. Great stuff! I was thinking of buying an RT and would love to have the same option w/o messing anything up on the RT. Tx!
I'm sorry for the late reply. I hook the Noco up only when battery needs to be charged. I think few viewers might have thought that it's hooked up permanently but it's not. I'm glad you asked me that question. Thank you. Have a wonderful safe ride day.
Well done video. Q) I like the front crash bars, do tell me what model and where did you get those? thank you
Thank you for watching. My bike model is 2014 BMW R1200RT. it's been a while but if I can remember I got my crash bars from A&S BMW Motorcycles and ordered it on line. There's another place where you can get it. It's called Wunderlichamerica.com. enjoy and have a safe ride.
@@bosconiantrade6181 Thank you for your response!
It looks like there was low miles on your drained oil. Thanks for posting. I am in the process of of trying to purchase a 2014 R1200rt so am watching a lot of videos.
Good luck hopefully you'll find your bike and thanks for watching.
If you turn the bottle 180 degrees you will not drip.
That's true.
Very helpful video.
Nice vdeo, but I was wondering why you didn't bother to balance your tire?
As a matter of fact that will be on my next video. Stay tune. Maraming salamat ride safe mga utol.

detailed well made instructional video. a well maintained bike!
Rick kamusta na! I need to reload the video because i made few adjustments on the sound. Thank you for your comment. Take care buddy.
The manual says this a no-no. Have you actually tried a boost start and did it fry any of the electronics ? Thanks
So far so good. Nothing got fried I've use it more than a few times. But I already got a new battery since it was over due for a change. Anyway.thank you for your concern. I will observe and look closely to that matter.
nice job!
Thank you.
Hi: Time to start doing the maintenance by myself… Question: how many litres should go of oil? Thank you
On a level ground and looking at the eyesight oil level, I make sure that I don't overfill my oil tank which is around between 3.7 to 3.8 quartz that is roughly equivalent to 3.6 liters.
Will this work on a 2016 R1100RS
Hi Thomas. As long as you have enough room to route the cables to the battery I don't see why not. Good Luck. Have a safe ride.
Thanks, very helpful. *Sweet torque wrench.
My 2009 R1200RT has the CAN BUS system and we are told not to charge direct to the battery but via the 12V socket. Does yours have a different system?
I'm not sure exactly how much electrical system have evolved between 2009 and 2014 on RT's. So far I have no problems on my bike for the last 5 months but it's a good thing you brought it up and now I'm curious and makes me want to ask the experts. If I can remember a few years ago I read something similar to your question on BMR Forums. Thank you for asking. Have a wonderful safe ride day.
What tool was used to remove the air valve?
I used a Tire valve cover with stem core remover. Thank you for watching the video.
Voyant moteur s'allume sur le tableau de bord de ma moto bmw r1200rt.
Thanks for recording this. I need to do the same for mine.
Your welcome.
Good video. I would suggest putting some blocks or something underneath the rim so you dont warp the rotors.
Good idea. Thank you.
Awesome video. Thank you.
