I would consider it a form of immersion dyeing. Sometimes it's called a low immersion bath. The fibers are still soaking in an immersion for an extended period.

I boil it... Which isn't exactly the safest way with small kids. However if you stick with pure soy wax you can usually get it out with just very hot tap water. Ironing them between layers of newsprint is another option

Great question. If I'm doing a full range of colors then I'll crack the pieces at the end when I do a black dye, but if I'm just doing a monochromatic pattern, I like to emphasize the intricacy of the line work and try not to crack. The master batik artists of Indonesia tend to believe that no cracking is the pinnacle, but pish posh to that, I typically track a big piece a lot!

That one was on cotton fiber, it was either broadcloth or quilters cloth, and yes I'm in MD :)

@@BayFibers that's super cool! I got to use some really cool fabric-like paper a while ago for a mural and this reminded me of something similar. I'm also in MD, such a great place to go out and paint whatever you can see, the bay is beautiful.
