Trying to Overcome Stream Anxiety (Twitch VOD #2)

Your video's been sitting in my "Watch Later" for perhaps a bit too long, but god damn I'm so glad I finally watched it. Really felt seen when you mentioned being scared of not meeting our own expectations and/or not knowing how to approach drawing something. Also, the bloopers were a nice reminder of what being human means to me, so thank you and I hope you have a great day :D

I would love to see you explain a little bit more about the background for the piece, how to choose it? How to make it feel full of depth even when it's simple, how to choose shapes. So far thank you for your insight ❤

I think at a certain skill level self teaching art plattoes unless you actively seek out feedback from more advanced artists. Especially when you are sorta good and want to improve but feel overwhelmed with the topics like anatomy, visual storytelling, simplifying, composition, lighting etc. Another artist can give you direction on what to focus on. I learned that this is the main difference between self taught artists and those with a degree in the arts. I myself am currently looking for finding artists that offer critiquing. In a nutshell its applying the method of Design Thinking. Identify a goal or problem you wan to tackle, brainstorm/draw something half backed (not 100% perfect) and ask your target audience/advanced artist for feedback and going back to the drawing board and incorporating the feedback just as quickly for another round of feedback.

    - do now and figure it now later - Do what ur uncomfortable with and trust you will figure it out - Stop overthinking it - Figure it now and do it later - By doing you can learn something new - Keep doing it and eventually, you will plateu and repeat mistakes - Targeted practice - Figure it out -> Theory learning - Do it-> Put theory into practice - Then problem solve to improve - Balance output and input - If you are not improving, do the opposite, either output or input - Challenge yourself - Overcome - Improves confidence

The way you drew frieren was already great don't restrict yourself and force yourself to go specifically by the quote on quote traditional way of drawing anime the way you paint the face and add that extra element to your work is already great

Talent is never the thing that makes the artist. Talent is like an early boost. It gives you a headstart over others, but it doesn't take you far. It's the effort you put in and the sacrifices you make for your art.

I genuinely thought i was going to hear the usual old tired points that everyone makes like "You need to draw every day" ( dude i have a job😢), or only tips for beginners (i have been doing art for 20 years). But i was pleasantly surprised to find good pointers that can be used by both rookies and struggling pros! Great video thank you so much

This video might've just fixed my art block. It seems so simple but i've never thought of my art or process this way. I was so used to pumping out tons of drawings of my current hyperfixation and after 2 years of taking medication it feels like I've been stifiled. But now I see that I actually have the freedom to focus and improve on the things I've always wanted to but could never focus on. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us ♡

  • @ectoberd

I drew a head/jaw at a stupid upward angle from reference, made a good piece out of it (that I'm still proud of 2 months later), and now I'm just able to draw that angle at any time freely. The weirder the angles/proportions/dynamics/poses, the easier it is to wrap your head around the figure because you know how it works and you know how it's supposed to look. You could even get to a point where you could improvise angles you've never drawn before because you just know where things are and how to approach it. (Been drawing for like 6 years and I'm just now getting comfortable with my tools and basic things like shapes/structures... Don't delay stretching yourself and doing things that are unfamiliar...)

I appreciate you speaking on the time aspect as a beginner I find most artists make it seem like they can make pieces so fast but In actuality months, like you said is not unexpected for something like this. Thank you for your honesty and transparency ❤
