Willie Dunn - The Song of the Sower (WC Bryant, arran.Willie Dunn)
Переглядів 4 тис.11 років тому
This song was released on the album the Vanity of Human Wishes. (written by WC Bryant, arranged by Willie Dunn) The maples redden in the sun; In autumn gold the beeches stand; Rest, faithful plough, thy work is done Upon the teeming land. Bordered with trees whose gay leaves fly On every breath that sweeps the sky, The fresh dark acres furrowed lie, And ask the sower's hand. Loose the tired ste...

A haunting, beautiful unreleased original song by my late father, Willie Dunn. Rest in peace, Dad. Sunlight through the window Summer wind blew in my heart In love I came to you I came to you Boston ivy in the window The winter wind blows in my heart Too late I came for you Too late I came for you I cannot feel the wind Nor can I see the leaves My breath and life for you My breath and life for ...

Unfortunately I arrived as a fan of your father far too late. He was such a great singer and songwriter. He saw things others didn't, he said what others thought but dared not say. I am glad to know of him even late, than to never have heard his golden voice. People today would do well to listen to words he wrote 50 years ago! They would see how much has changed/stayed the same/gotten worse. You and the rest of your family can be so proud 🥲.

Hi would you know where I could find sheet music or good chord sheets of Willie 's music? I met him through Parker Duchemin,a common friend , in the 90's in Ottawa.

Thanks for that! I wish someone would take on the task of writing down his texts and putting them online.

Where is Dunn's version of Charlie Wenjack? Capitalism prefers Tragically Hip version?

I am ashamed to say that I never heard of Willie Dunn until yesterday when I read about a great singer songwriter, and that man's name was Willie Dunn. They said he was adept at telling a story in his music about 1st Nation people. At that point I started listening to his music that I found on UA-cam. What a great singer! What a great songwriter! The music he wrote gives the listener a clearer understanding of the hardship and pain and the betrayal of the people who were here before us. Growing up in Scarborough I never was taught about the real story of Canada. I realized that I got the viewpoint of the white history. Of course we were taught the 1st Nation people willingly signed treaties and they were much better off after that. Nothing could be further from the truth! It is sad that so many people believe the wrong narrative about this great country. It really is the time to do the right thing and change the way 1st Nation people are treated and thought of. I am so glad that I have discovered the music of Willie Dunn. Thank you for posting this.

I worked alongside Willie Dunn in the 60s and 70s at the NFB in Canada..he was then researching the images for his Ballad of Crowfoot song..Lately I came to know of his later song . I pity the country, I pity the state.. I pity the man..who thrives on hate (?) What a great compositor, musician, and so much more...RIP Willie D. GS

Was one of my musical heroes. I was trying to get the lyrics from a song he did in the 60’s called Tears still Fall within my Mind. It was played on a CBC program where he sang it live

This song you are referring to is a rare unreleased gem from my father which was only recorded twice as far as i know, one being the 'songs of man' performance you saw on cbc. The title is "gown of silver'

Lawrence Dunn Wow. So amazing. Gown of Silver. To me your Dad was a legendary composer. I am 42 and the first time I heard him was in early 90’s. I was a Kashtin fan and heard Son of the son was his song. Hooked ever since. I actually have a song I am working on about him. Or at least the inspiration he was for me. When I am done I will share.

Lawrence Dunn, Hey Lawrence . I found your fathers music through my uncle who lived next door to Willie for many years. I had an old scratched CD of Son of the Sun which is too damaged to listen too. WHERE CAN I BUY THIS CD, and where in gods name can I hear his brilliant song Yellowhead Highway?!? Greetings from B.C. James

Jair Machado google “Willie Dunn CBC “ and that full performance, including “gown of silver” is available to watch. It’s brilliant.

He gave me a tape he recorded, putting to his music, the Vanity of Human Wishes (The Tenth Satire of Juvenal Imitated). Has this surfaced to anyone's knowledge? I have lost the tape, unfortunately.

Hi Lawrence, Thank you so much for sharing your father's music. I have been a fan of his for many years now. I'm currently researching an essay for my degree about your father's work and how he is, in my opinion, and overlooked artist of beauty and integrity. I would love to discuss a few things with you if you would like to do so too. You can reach me at t.savage585@outlook.com. All the best, and here's to Willie! Tom

...I've just now heard this song, Lawrence...thank you. If you've not come across my tribute to your father; 'Willie on the Wind', it can be found on my 'Agoraphobic Folk' page, with second guitar and recording by my cousin Michael P. O'Toole, and video and audio arrangement by our friend Sherine Cisco. It chronicles the impact that hearing your dad sing 'Ballad of Crowfoot' had on me as a very young man on CBC's 'Take Thirty' program many years ago. A large influence on my wanting to write songs. I had the pleasure of putting up sound for he and Willie Thrasher years later (and now years ago) @ Trent University's Wenjack Theatre. love, d.

I just get aware that one of the Idols of my late childhood marched on to the happy hunting grounds. By seeing the recording of the CNACA Festival 2013 here I was amazed how full, canorous and powerfull his voice still was. I nearly wondered that i still could join in the rhymes i knew so well from my old LPs, but haven't sung for over 15 years now, but they are still engraved in my brain and heart. Thank you for sharing another wonderfull song of your father, who won`t be forgotten. regards from Germany

I have a powerful memory of going to see Willie at Rasputin's in Ottawa one freezing cold night the winter of '91-92. He sang "Charlie Wenjack." It was beautiful, terrifying, and somehow inspiring. I'd never heard the song, or the story, before, and I was devastated. Still am.
