720q Tiny got PCIe 8x, not 16x :)
Just bought 5 14tb exos drive from ebay, seller says oem new plus 5 year warranty, gonna put them in raid 5 for a jellyfin server, if any die within the next 5 years and that seller still exist I should get a replacement, here's to hoping I never have to do that lol.
10 bloody days!
Dont breath in those fibres. They are safe to install but not to breath in for any length of time.
This is actually a really good video. Viewer from the UK here. Curious to hear if you might know why I can't plug the fibre directly into the USG-Pro. Instead we have to use this fibre to ethernet converter box? Not sure on the terminology if I am honest. I've tried plugging the SFP module directly into the USG, but it seems we don't get a laser.
today the ssd lifespan is less than sata drives and more costly
The question is how much can you trust that WAS-110 and the OS you are flushing on it. Honestly I have no plan switching to this method even with all those issues with that cra**y ATT router. Still a cool video and upvoted!
Prusa is just too expensive for what it is.
where can you source a WAS-110 with the 8311 firmware? Also, does it support multiple static IPs and pass-thru mode?
Why 1x32 and not 2x16 for the ram?
Hey. how's the power consumption? I'm moving towards this for my Network Stack Homelab. :)
You should try the ARCTIC Freezer 4U-M to cool this CPU, you'll get a much quieter operation.
Please let me know if anyone has figured this out with CenturyLink/Quantum Fiber ONTs.
I tired doing this with the current 2Gbps/2Gbps FiOS and it didn't work as Verizon is using a newer protocol that isn't yet supported by the WAS-110. The community is the star here, they did an awesome job on Discord helping me out and finding out why it didn't work. I do agree with the documentation side of this could be a bit more streamlined. But over all the project is great even if it didn't work for me. I did manage to flip the WAS-110 for about $25 less then what I paid for it, so I didn't lose a ton of money on the whole project. The reason why I wanted to do this, was because my Verizon box would do a service update for the ONT around 3am on a Sunday morning. This is fine most of the time, but I run a business out of my home so I needed that connection ready and available 24/7. This was the ideal solution to stop the firmware upgrades from effecting my connection and putting me in control over the very edge of my network. You can still get most of the way there by skipping the Verizon router, and plugging into your UDM Pro directly and that will also stop the firmware upgrades from killing your connection at 3am on a Sunday. But every 6 or so months you need to plug the router back in so the Set Top Boxes (if you have TV service as well) can get the latest SSL certificates as they expire every 180 days to decrypt the TV streams.
Att are conmen
You can use Raspberry Pi radiators on sides for a little better cooling.
I know this is an old video, but this is why I hate the Pi4/5 USB-C power setup. You have to use official USB-C and the cables are always short or you get voltage drops and most PSUs just don't push enough power. I would much rather have a 12V barrel plug with a stepdown as required even if it had to be some sort of daughterboard, you would no longer be limited to putting the Pi close to the mains supplies.
Love these vlog-style videos on your channel.
Did you manage to get a VM running on this board X13-SAE using iGPU? I have a i5-14500T, and using Unraid. Bios side has been done, can see Tower, login after booting from usb stick, though can't get VM to output to hdmi port. Thanks for the review!
Thank you KTZed for sharing your experience with the WAS-110. Your AT&T setup looks similar to the Bell Canada "Fibe" service. My 3Gb/s symmetric service uses the Sagemcom FAST 5689E (which is packaged for Bell as a "Giga Hub"). It is also frustrating to have in the loop since it does not provide a true bridge mode. Quick ancillary question: does AT&T also give you an IPv6 address? One of the big disappointments with Bell is that they only provide IPv4 and there is no indication that they have any interest in ever supporting IPv6.
Hey, nice video, i have the same setup but with dual ethernet pci-e card and an i7 8800, running opnsense directly on the machine. i think a firewall shouldn't be virtualized.. why? if any of your vms/cts f**s up and your hardware freeze > your whole network will go down.
Make sure to plug in the AT&T gateway every once in a while. I bypassed my 210 gateway for YEARS, and then my fiber got cut and they had to send a tech to fix it, so I plugged the 210 back in. It was offline for so long it was missing the pre-req firmware for the latest version, and ended up in a boot loop when it updated.
Good video...! Have you had a chance to test the MK4S against the X1 Carbon? I have heard that the MK4s is better in terms of quality and even speed to get the same quality results.
Tried this previously with other routers and every time the DHCP WAN lease renewal went out (every 10 minutes) FOR MY STATIC IP, I would lose connection momentarily enough to disrupt MMO game connections and exposed-to-the-internet game servers. My setup is FTTH then cat6 to the ATT gateway.
why would you put that server done there with moisture and humidity?
5Gig symmetrical is awesome, Public IPv4 with that? No CGNAT BS hopefully right? ps get your British ass back here to slow-ass Britain at once, those speeds are far too quick haha! I also got in on the 8311 group buy, working well on Virgin XGS-PON so far!
Hey I know this is from a year ago but I want to thank you for just making this content I feel like im just sitting with a friend working on computer stuff. something I dont have a luxury of doing since no one I know is super interested haha.
Why can't you attach the fiber directly to the 720's sfp?
You can bypass the att router by using a WAS-110 sfp+. It gives you better upload speed.
Unique Artifact from Lenovo
So basically you did all of this for the same speeds? Is this actually worth it?
My AT&T router shows the Wave Length 0 as 0. Should I try this method? (pon wiki said 1270nm)
Did you verify if the drive is CRM and not SRM? Also, 250 is about the price of a refurbished helium server drive from Ebay.
Excellent vid and very interesting to see your setup and rationale behind it all. You sound like a Brit but talk in dollars and the mains plugs I could see didn't look like those of the UK, so are you based in North America these days?
Does this work with. M1 Mac as well?
VERY Standard Deviation! Ha-ha-ha!! Nice touch!
Very cool setup. I think I would to the same with much cheaper parts, but I would do that even if I could afford this beast because that's what I do :)
I don't know that I'd call that daisy chaining. The whole purpose of the aggregation switch is connecting switches together, so connecting one aggregation switch to another one seems pretty normal. It just sucks that the cheap one is a layer 2 switch.
hi, what slot did you put the LSI card into onthe X13SAE? - slot 1, 4, or 7?
Can that method work for Bell Fibre?. I do have UDM Pro Max.
James Corden has a yt channel now wtf
Western Digital and Seagate were notorious for putting HHDs in their cases that had a proprietary interface instead of SATA. Is that still the case or have you had good luck shucking newer drives.
Can we put some screws in that server rack? Your killing me smalls
What if your subnets do overlap? How do you change one?
Always throws me off when I hear your accent with you talking about down south and I'm thinking yeah ok, in the UK. Then you mention AT&T and I always forget you're in USA
Thank you
if i had a bunch of drives in lets say the 1tb, and a couple in the 4-8tb that i know have bad sectors or issues, and used your script would it mark the bad ones so at least some of the drive could be used?
If a drive already has failing sectors you should NOT use it for anything remotely important. Drives will stop using bad sectors automatically but the failure will likely spread over time. BadBlocks is just a test program that checks if a drive is in failure state. A failing drive can die in 5 minutes or 5 years. No program or person can tell you when
@@bjangles8718 yup 100% behind that. but i thought it'd be nice to have a couple of temp drives to move large folders here or there in my external caddies, nothing that would be critical or problematic if lost or corrupted aside from my time. at the moment they are basically paper weights but if i could mark the bad sectors i might get a little use out of them instead of ewaste. one can only make so many dreamcatchers from platters.
I wish I would have seen this deal. $250 for 20TB. You can't beat that.
Did Seagate modify the SATA port of their Hard Drive a few years to make it shuck-proof?
It’s crazy one has to do this simply to get a clean internet connection and to be able to expose ports. Where does one buy one? I thought it would be in the description but it seems like it’s a little secret squirrel.
