Wellllll I just sent a message to Unifi asking them to integrate a second input power source + Automatic transfer switch option for their PDU line of products. Why? (hopefully they can leverage their existing monitoring tool AND make it equal or cheaper than other brands out there) The idea behind the ATS in you current system would anything blip upstream of the only one input power source, your entire install goes down. I've seen the little UPS box next to your server units. But did not see any on your network/KVM. (your upstream power source needs to be on two different circuit breakers, then at least one UPS feeding one of the ATS source, the second is straight to the wall outlet unless you have a separate UPS) Work you electrical feed idea with "Feed A, Feed B" IF you have zero budget for it, then the minimum is to look at your circuit breakers load. (It's pointless to do all the redundancy work on your disk arrays and data replication if your entire install's power install is weak) Write my words, you'll find out the day your small UPS has a meltdown event and I've seen it happen a few times even with expensive UPS units. Second thing, what kind of monitoring do you have in place for things like water leak or smoke detection? Third thing, while getting at the back of your rack seems a tad challenging, that PDU "front facing" isn't really meant to be up there the way you've installed it but I understand the challenge with rear rack access, it's just that you've now made the entire upper part of the rack space un-usable for additional devices. Last one.... Cable management !!!!!!!!!!! the more power cords you keep hanging free at the back the more crowded it gets for any hot air to dissipate and flow away from the rack. Network cables should never cross in between the rack posts to go to random devices at the back unless you're using a patch panel or pass through cable tray. Get some velcro and pass the cables from the front of the rack, to the side and then chose an entry point to go to the back.
Could you please share a link to the M.2 A/E to M-key adapter?
The Sliger cerberus X case was a real bear with these Supermicro mobos. One of the standoffs made contact with the pads under a DIMM and made it unrecognizable in the BIOS. Took me way too long to figure that out.
Fantastic content, thanks very much!
I hve the same motherboard, but cannot get it to POST, did you have the GPU installed when you got it to POST first time around?
Checking if this work with my ISP Comporium. Comporium provide single mode fiber into an Adtran that converts fiber to copper.
Since the Lenovo M720q is running such a critical mission in your home, maybe you should have two? If you had second one in the "rack" next to the first, you could just disconnect the wires from the main system, switch the devices and reconnect the wires. The only question is how to backup the SSD so that you don't miss anything even if the main box totally fries thanks to lightning strike.
@KTZ Systems can you please share a link of which pikvm you are using here?
5:31 Not much thermal paste in place there 😦
What 2x10gbps SFP+ NIC did you use ? About the Box getting quite Hot (besides the obvious ... it's PACKED :D), another possibility is that you are using a NIC that does NOT support ASPM, preventing the CPU from entering higher sleep / lower-power C-states (basically anything higher than C2/C3). Unless you have an Intel X710 and to a lower extent a Mellanox ConnectX-4, ASPM will NOT be supported at all (and Mellanox ConnectX-4 is only "Partial" ASPM, while the Intel X710 can achieve up to C7 Power States apparently). EDIT: I don't think that the Intel 82599ES supports ASPM (even though some Documentation say it should). No direct Experience from my Side, but lots of Research basically only point to the Intel X710 (Full ASPM) and Mellanox ConnectX-4 (Partial ASPM). The Intel X520 and X540 do NOT support ASPM apparently. I'll be testing soon the former 2 plus the Intel XXV710 (25gbps) as well ...
Can I just attach a Ethernet to the back of the gateway into my switch? I need it to go to about 16 different Ethernet jacks around the office.
I know from some previous videos that you’re a fan of VLANs. Could you do a video showing how you integrate home assistant across your VLANs?
Crawl space more like it. Moisture and heat for a server room is not a good mix.
In the US you are still required to use the router provided by the ISP? In Germany we have the right to use our own routers. Took us 25 years to fight for.
Still confused why the i5 has no hyperthreading and if this is a huge issue with promox/containers/VMs. Anyway, CPU should be upgradeable.
Bambu Lab is a product of a country, which suffers under a one of the worst communist regimes there is. Who does not want to wake up in a dystopic world driven by communists, buys Prusa. I would never prefer Xiaomi over Samsung from the same reason. Or BYD over BMW. You can buy T-shirts from them. Never a high tech product.
20% idle means your cpu is 80% busy… pfSense usually performs better on proxmox
What if I have a static IP block from ATT? How does it handled by the firmware?
Same
Finally, a decent video that goes over some stuff that I've been looking into for awhile. I prefer a visual presentation along with the reading material I've been gathering. Thank you, thank you a ton.
If they were the same price, It would be apples to apples. But when a P1P (which have the same core motion components as the X1c) sells for 450 USD on black friday, Prusa is just not even in the game.
I notice you don't have IPv6, out of curiosity does your ISP supply IPv6? I found out today that my ISP which provides me 2Gig up and down fibre gives me IPv6 which I had disabled on my OPNSense box, turns out after I enabled IPv6 my download speed shot up to near enough the 2Gig maximum download. Without IPv6 I was only getting around 1.4Gig, wondering if it would possibly be the same for your ISP...
You mentioned you're running Caddy. Are you running that as a plugin in OPNsense? I'm interested in seeing how the Reverse Proxy was configured.
Someone on the Discord dissected the WAS and packed it with some type of thermal plato. Says it makes a significant difference. I have a Dyson Cool blasting on it and the rest of the rack.
I want to ask, brother, yesterday I played a cloud game and coincidentally the cloud game requires this tailscale to run, I activated the connection and I unknowingly entered paypal and saw my password and paypal information, I forgot to turn off the connection, bro, and I haven't closed the cloud application window, can the owner of the cloud see the information on the cellphone screen because it's like a remote from a distance, or can he not see my information because maybe he can only see his monitor because I play his monitor from a distance (cloud) or can he also see my cellphone screen when I'm in the tailscale or cloud application?, bro, please answer this, I'm very confused and scared
You should be fine. Change your PayPal password if you are concerned.
i have 1gb up/down speed, i watched another video with a different router that you have to upgrade your service to 2gb or better for this to work and then down grade to 1gb if you don't need this type of speed. is this true?
Liked for the little touch on "I'm keeping my secrets.. maybe except NSA..." 😁
where the hell do you buy the WAS-110 SFP ONT?
Why is the benefit of doing this? What is the difference between this and us in the pass through?
I have zero issues using the AT&T ONT and I'm able to get bridge mode where the WAN IP is presented to my Unifi gateway. Curious why I am having an alternative experience than others in this video?
What is that sawtooth pattern on the unify?
Appreciate the content. I admit, I did not watch the entire video. So, I may have missed where it's explained the reasoning behind virtualizing the firewall. I feel this over complicates things while also losing performance. There has been many attempts on my end to virtualize my networks firewall but it always ends creating unnecessary issues. For example, you reboot the host and the pass-through for some reason fails. You will then need to jump through a few hoops to regain access and resolve it. In my experience it's just not worth the headache.
I'm a Network + certified but I have to admit: I'm a little intimidated with fiber. I've never worked with fiber. I'm feeling better now after your extremely good video. Thanks a lot!
Awesome video, well done! I don't have an issue with this, as I have a proper ONT, but I think my friend does. I'll see if I can convince him to take a look at this (I won't be successful, but 🤷♂🤷♂)
Why didn't you use the ONT module in the AT&T router? Those will work for a bypass, and will have less overhead than the WAS-110. The WAS-110 is for devices where the ONT module is not removable or the SFP is locked to not work in other devices. (which often can be fixed by shorting two pins on the SFP module itself.)
I have the AMD Ryzen pro, and it has been very useful, I run jelly fin on it and it's my prefered "daily driver" I have added 12TB of storage and upped the ram to 24GB, I must say it runs like a champ. I don't game, so no worries there, photoshop runs fine. I like it, saves on electricity and space. my towers just sit to the side!
Not that long ago I Iearned that testing networks in a browser is limited to the browser as a bottleneck. The speedtest has a win app. And recently I updated my fiber to 2Gb and disabling the networkcard buffers is at the moment of testing better. I wash thinking to use a second new zimaboard to use opnsense, what do you think❓🤔💬 as I like these Lenovo very much. 🤩
My ONT is on the side of my house so I would have to get creative to do something like this. I use the dumb switch bypass method. I connect my AT&T router to the ONT with a switch in between and allow the AT&T router to boot. This allows the AT&T router to authenticate my connection with a baked in certificate. Then I unplug the AT&T router and boot up my PfSense box connected to the switch. My PfSense router is spoofing the MAC address of the AT&T router for IPv4 and there is an enterprise client ID I had to pull off the AT&T router with wireshark for IPv6 to work. What I get is a dual stacked internet connection with access to a full /60 IPv6 allocation and none of the NAT limits of the AT&T router. My IPs are also basically static, they have not changed in years so no need for a dynamic DNS service.
I'd be curious about the Ethernet SFP module. It could became pretty hot 60+C which would melt the 3d printed bracket pretty soon.
How did you know it was eth9? I'm looking at mine and am confused which one it is?
DId you ever figure this out?
I currently have AT&T 1GB and have the BGW320-500 gateway. 5GB is not currently available in my area. I would still like to kick the AT&T box to the curb. Is this possible? If yes, how? Is there a UA-cam video that documents the process?
The 8311 discord has all the answers to this and more
I inserted a GPU and drilled many small holes so that the GPU fan gets fresh cold air to blow over the heatsink. You sould du similar for that custom blower
On Cat.6A cables, 10gbit dropout is always from two of these: 1. not using a very good termination on your keystone and even not using a keystone at all. 2. bends on the cable at an angle of 90 or less, that will destroy the data in your cable.
am i crazy, or is that ubiquiti tab not there anymore for anyone else on this website referenced in the video? i see a tab for static route, but not for static IP, the static ip option that does exist doesn't have a ubiquiti just windows/mac/linux. the only section on the side currently is "network setup" so i don't see the command line information that's being used. really trying to get this up and running with my UDM Pro.
Its sometime interchangeable for the SFP you are using they are mostly called ONU and the AT&T modem was the ONT with an ONU module built in. But it's all PON technology. ONT traditionally have no interface and controlled by the OLT.
im always 1 month late for the group buy! :(
This is pretty neat. My only concern is if there are issues on the same PON card at the central office you’re on they might look at the devices connected and single you out. I’m sure they can tell it’s not their ONT. But it’s like buying your own cable modem and unless they provide a proper bridge mode then yeah you end up doing this.
Lol you give at&t too much credit, the techs aren't going to check. If you are using their something other than at&t provided equipment they will close the ticket.
@@vincecatapano9020 The bigger surprise is that it even works as the ISP i work for has all the Onts be it media converter, sfp or on board locked by unit SN.
I have been bypassing AT&T router on my connection for years. Other than their app complaining that my connection is down I have had zero issues.
@@k6usy They don't try to send techs out to "fix the issue"?
@@DlxyRektnope
NOKA is for Nokia that makes the ONTs now a days.
Bambulab is very good on spare parts and user serviceability though. I would say AnkerMake is much closer to Apple in this regard.
Hello, is there a way to save the route we set? The route does not work if I reboot my Ubiquiti device
I got mine from the group buy on 8311 at the first of October. It’s been running perfect since getting it set up. Latency has been lower and speeds have been higher. Latency has been much more stable also. Funny part was 3 hours after I switched to it, AT&T text me that my internet wasn’t working :)
Has your internet still been stable? Is AT&T spamming you with texts saying your internet is out, or are they making automatic tickets and trying to send a tech out to "fix the issue"?
@@DlxyRekt Mine has been 100% stable since i installed. AT&T texted me about 3 hours after the change over and hasn't texted again so far. I have since completely unplugged the gateway and set it aside for now.
@@TylerTroglen Oh okay that's great. I'm rarely home so I don't want to deal with at&t driving over and constantly trying to figure out why it says their gayeway is offline lol
