The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast Episode 224 - The Burnt Planet William Brittain
Thursday June 20th, 2024
Mad with despair, they fought back from the ruins. Whoever these invaders were, they should not have a world which its defenders themselves had destroyed! The Burnt Planet William Brittain, that’s next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast.
If the name William Brittain rings a bell, you know your vintage science fiction. He’s another one of those authors that we know almost nothing about, he wrote a few stories and then… who knows? But there are some authors that you wish wrote a lot more, and for me, he is one of them, because I LOVE William Brittain’s writing.
He wrote 3 stories, one in 1942 and two more in 1948. What you are about to hear is the last story ever published written by William. J Brittain. Turn to page 80 in the Winter 1948 issue of Planet Stories Magazine, The Burnt Planet William Brittain…
Next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, Ripped by an asteroid stray, the space-ship drifted helplessly … until suddenly, across the shuddering deeps, a strange voice called to her. Runaway by Alfred Coppel.

      @copernicofelinis well I had to create them on my own, so bummer. Thanks for encouraging me to do them. I have had automatic chapters as the default probably since the channel began but UA-cam hasn't created them. Being incredibly busy the thought of creating chapters manually doesn't get me excited. So I am not sure about the future of chapters on our channel. I don't have any interest in going back over 224 videos and doing them. That's a lot of work and a lot of time. What's the payoff? Thanks for your comments and thanks for listening!!

      @xephael3485 thanks! Funny story that may only be funny to me. There are people who say they listen to audiobooks at 2.5x and even 3x. I never have been able to understand why. Would you play a move a 2.5 or 3x if you could. My thought has always been that at those speeds you miss the nuance, the deliberate pauses to increase the tension etc. So I tried listening to one of my stories at 2.5x and 3x. Yikes, I narrated the story and at those speeds I cannot understand what I am saying. So what you said in your comment is, to me, a huge compliment! Thank you for that, and thanks for listening!!

      @@VintageSciFiAudiobooks fishing for complements? I’ll give you a well deserved one. Your narration brings the story to life more than most. I listen to audiobooks to to relax and/or doze off to, but your narration, while it is relaxing, makes the stories more interesting and difficult to doze off to. I’m not complaining, just stating the facts.

    • @VintageSciFiAudiobooks
      @VintageSciFiAudiobooks 15 годин тому

      @davidrains3918 I wasn't fishing for a compliment, I was/am seriously interested in what you had to say, "how much different narrators make the story feel so different!" As a narrator I strive to bring the authors vision of the story to life to the best of my ability. Sitting in a little 3 1/2 foot by 3 1/2 foot tiny box by yourself you are not connected to the people who will ultimately decide whether you are good or not, there is no feedback in that tiny little room. So anytime I can hear from people who listen to what I do who will honestly give me insight into why they enjoy or don't enjoy what I do is valuable to me. When I first started narrating audiobooks I gained tremendous feedback that led me to become the narrator I am today. I want to get better and listening to the listeners is the best way to do that. Thanks for your comment and thanks for listening!!

    FUNNY FACT: This is the "architectural style" of most of Mexico...due to the fact of extremely high property taxes...which are only charged on COMPLETED structures. Consequently, the vast majority of homes and businesses have "incomplete" additions....a few reed bars and blocks sticking out of the wall...a tiny beginning on a second floor wall...anything to be able to call the building not finished yet...even if it's been that way for 30 years...

    I love 2 gun Bobs horror and mystery stories ,especially the ones read by Robertson Dean. I never liked the Conan and Sword and sorcery, l find all the homo-eroticism tiresome, not my cup of tea you see.

      @patrickmullane30 thank you. Think how awesome it would be if you could build a house out of that stuff where hurricanes destroy houses. But, of course, they call it science fiction for a reason. You are a loyal listener and I am thankful for you. Thanks for listening!!
