Create FAST PATTERNS in Adobe Illustrator PT 2 / Symbols for Half Drop Repeat!!!
In this video, I’ll be showing you how to create FAST patterns in Adobe Illustrator! Using the symbols half drop repeat pattern that we made in the previous Part 1 video, I’ll show you how you can create super fast and easy variations of your Illustrator patterns! You can create totally different repeat patterns FAST using this awesome time-saving technique.
As a designer, there are times when you’ll need to create different options of your Illustrator pattern designs to show to a client, OR you may be creating a pattern collection. Either way, the clock is always ticking in the design world- and you need to be able to get your patterns out fast! Don’t get left behind. Make sure you learn all the tips and tricks out there. This technique has definitely helped me to save a lot of time on my repeat pattern work- and I’m sure it will help you out as well!
Editing your Illustrator repeats with symbols can make your design work faster, easier, and more efficient. So it’s a great technique to learn!
When you turn an object into a symbol, and when you edit the symbol, it will cause EVERY instance of that symbol to be edited in exactly the same way at the same time. The changes that you make to one symbol will cause the corresponding symbol to change in the same way automatically. Helping to ensure that your Illustrator pattern remains seamless!!!

Very helpfut! If my artwork turns out to be a weird size unintentionally, such as 4 3/8" x 6 5/8". Will it be ok for the factory?

I do have a question why when rescale my pattern and export it to upload it on spoon flower when I proof it it’s off but if I export the original scale and proof it in spoon flower it works perfect
@@HelenCasella Hi there. When you say that when you "proof it it's off", what do you mean by off? Does the pattern repeat not match up anymore? Or is the size of the pattern off? - If the pattern repeat is not matching up anymore after rescaling/ exporting, you can watch this other video that I have that discusses fixing white lines in patterns. Specifically you should watch the parts of the video that deal with this happening when you export (there are time codes in the description of the video so you can see what parts to watch). Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/T7r1TKwqGes/v-deo.htmlsi=mn71s1eiaXCy2w1L But if you mean that the size of the pattern is off, then whenever you rescale and export, make sure you're using the "Export As" option, and that you're exporting at 150dpi (since that is Spoonflower's preferred dpi). If you export at 150dpi it should maintain the new intended size when uploading to spoonflower. Let me know if that helps, and if that answers your question.

@@artnation2885 Hi there! If you don't have a scanner, the best alternative is to find a business in your area that lets you scan your images on their machines. In my area I can go to an office supply store such as FedEx Kinkos. They have large color copiers that you can scan on. They will charge you a fee per scan, and you will need to bring a USB to plug into the machine to save your scanned image. You would have to find places like this in your area. - Aside from that, another alternative would be to try to take a good quality photo of the artwork on your phone or on a camera if you have one. But it won't be quite the same high quality as a scan. If this is for personal use, you can try this and see how it turns out. - And one more thing you can try is a scanning app. I know of one called Scanner Pro which is for use with an iPhone or iPad. If you don't use iPhone or iPad you can check to see what other scanning apps are available. I've known of people using this but I haven't used it myself so it's something you'd have to try out. - But if this is for a paid project or if you're selling the artwork, the best option really is the first one- look for a place that gives you access to a scanner.
