High Winds in Southern Alberta
Переглядів 1505 років тому
On Oct 25, 2019, southern Alberta was buffeted with sustained winds in excess of 100 kilometers per hour. Winds gusted as high as 172 kilometers per hour in some areas near The Foothills. The video cannot convey the intense, constant pressure of the wind on the body, nor can it replicate the small bits of gravel, dirt and wheat chaff that were hitting my face... or the noise.
Homemade Rock Screed
Переглядів 1,9 тис.6 років тому
I dug a small pond and found lots of various sized rocks in the spoils. As I do not have a rock bucket yet, I decided to cobble together a wooden rock screed to separate the rocks from the soil. It took about 4 hours to put this together using some scrap lumber, plywood and 3 railroad ties I had lying around. We had to be kinda careful dumping the soil so that we did not crush the screed with t...
Large Buck Contemplating Jumping The Fence
Переглядів 208 тис.7 років тому
This large buck had been walking the fence line behind our house for over an hour trying to decide if he could jump it. I waited for him to reach the other end of the fence line and then I opened the gates in the fence just down from our house. He walked back this way and found his way through the gates and then on his way. Beautiful animal, and not terribly bothered by my presence.
First Run of My New Skid Steer Snow Plow Blade
Переглядів 55 тис.7 років тому
We got 12" of fresh powdery snowfall just before Christmas, 2017. The accompanying wind caused some pretty large snowdrifts across my 1000' long driveway on my southern Alberta acreage. No better way to test out my new skid steer snow plow blade.

As they say - "The grass is greener on the other side". Probably what the deer is thinking as it scans the fence several times. Or the deer is thinking maybe I should of lost a little more weight. Deer can jump pretty high, but this fence is just a little bit too much to tackle in this spot. Good video.

It's amazing how many human beings think they know what is going on in the head of a deer. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but deer don't do "math". "Short term memory" is another thing. Deer can somehow remember where all of their favorite food sources are but one of the people commenting here seems to think that they have memory issues. One of the biggest BS comments I have heard in the past is that they are colorblind. Humans will NEVER know if they are colorblind. Just like humans will never know if there is a god. I know for a fact because I was once a deer in a past life and when I was hit by a car I went to deer heaven and I was reincarnated as a UA-cam AI bot... Can you see how absurd all this sounds now? Probably not.

I’ve seen an injured buck jump over a fence that high before. It’s nothing to them if they really wanted to. This guy was thinking too much as there’s no real danger in presence.

It's interesting watching it analyze different parts of the fence and working things out. However, you can see it clearly decide against it, only to turn and check again. Their short term memory can't be the best. Lol
