    I’ve always just used spackle for stencils. It works just as well as modeling paste. You can add clear gesso or a little sand-free grout powder to give it less of a “plasticky” feel.

    Today, walking by the city counsil I found a box filled with descarted sheets rolls of old blueprints. They were brownish, tho. I think they are acetate. Im not sure. I SNATCHED as many as I could carry and brought them home. I don't know what to do with them. I havent been able to go through them, as I was heading for class when I found them (luckily I live nearby so I made a quick pit stop). I'm trying to learn more about acetate sheets and see what I could do with them!!

    Hi..i just found your channel. I have 2 sets of the Artistro pens. One set is the 12 metallic. The other is not. In having a hard time with many of them not working. I've been soaking them in pretty warm water, but still not working. They are not very old and still have a lot of paint. Do you have any suggestions I could try? Thank you so much. ~Lorie

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio 15 днів тому

      I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your pens. I just pulled my Artistro pens out the other day after not using them for about 6 months. I did find that a few of the nibs had come crusted paint on them. I ended up using a baby wipe and scrubbing the paint off the tips. I had to shake them super well and several times and it took several times priming them to get them working again, but I eventually got them up and running again. Honestly, if the nibs are getting cranky and they're not working, you can try pulling the tips, scrubbing them with soap and water, rinsing them well and re-inserting them into the pen. When they are being difficult, my thought is that I have nothing to lose by being a bit rougher with the nibs. I hope that helps!

    This is a mind-blowing idea!!!Thanks for sharing. I have this bottle and I have the acrylics, but never thought of using them together to come up with this fantastic idea. I was using plastic sheet cones like icing bag and filled it with acrylic paint which serve the purpose, but caused a lot of wastage of paint. I guess this should be a better idea instead of the messy cones.

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio 15 днів тому

      Thanks! I'm glad that you enjoyed the video and that you found it helpful. The plastic sheet cones sounds like a lot of work, this will definitely work better! I tend to use a high flow paint in the bottles, but if you don't have high flow, a bit of thinned paint should also work well. I hope that you get great results with this! I find that depending on your bottle, the paints don't dry out either. These are the ones that I purchase from Amazon. amzn.to/3YtHuF2 I can have paints in them for over 6 months and they are good to use as the day I put the paint in the bottle. I hope that you have great success with this technique!

One thing which caught my attention was that you left a working link for the Amazon product. Whenever I post any website links in comments, UA-cam deactivate/removes the links, and they are no longer highlighted in blue, appear, like normal text and don’t work on clicking on the link. Did you do anything different other than copy paste?😁 sorry not related with the subject of your video, but had to ask you how you manage to leave a working web link.

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio 14 днів тому

      @@Zxcvb137 Yes there is. Use a gel medium or even a heavy gel medium. This will give your paint thicker consistency and you'll still have good color. Just be aware that when you do mix the paint with the gel medium, it'll look a little bit cloudy but will dry clear. Once it dries it'll look just as vibrant as it was before! Oh interesting. I haven't run into that before. All I'm doing is copying and pasting and it works. I hope that you can figure it out so you can keep your links!

    I've watched a ton of videos, and you are the first person to suggest bristol paper for pastels. Everyone else is saying sanded paper (too expensive) or watercolor paper (too much texture (for me)). But I do have bristol vellum. You say it will work? Seems like it might, but how well. Can't try it until my pastels arrive. (in your pan pastel video, you were using watercolor paper! 😉) Helpful video. Thanks.

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio Місяць тому

      I'm glad that you've been enjoying the videos! So I've played with a lot of different papers for pastels. The more tooth (roughness) the paper has, the better the pastels will stick. I have used bristol paper and smoother papers, but it does mean that less of the medium will stick to the paper and you'll have to use a fixative spray if you want to build colors and layers. When I first was playing with pastels I used a lot of bristol paper but I've now moved to watercolor paper and slightly more textured paper so that the surface will have more tooth and the pastel will stick better. Because I like to add pastels to collage, to help them stick to the surface I'll use a clear gesso to create more tooth. It's nice to have a really smooth paper (it's my favorite) but it means that the pastels will fight you a bit. You can always try to experiment and see what you get. I tend to use the Cason XL Watercolor paper in my classes and my students have had good results with it. It's not super textured but the pastels seem to stick to it quite well. I hope that helps!

      It isn't necessary. The alcohol inks won't chip off or move. If you're going to have your piece in a very bright area I would consider using a UV spray. I love alcohol inks but they aren't nearly as lightfast as acrylic paints.

      You can, but I'd suggest a stiffer bristled brush so that more of the pigment goes onto the surface. I tend to use sponges because it generally creates less dust and loose pigment. I've moved away from the Sofft sponges due to the expense and when I teach classes, I have my students use disposable makeup applicators and makeup sponges and they work really well.

    Could you use Gesso or texture paste?

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio 2 місяці тому

      Absolutely! Any paste or heavy gesso will work. Each paste has a slightly different finish and consistency, but anything that has a bit of grip (or tooth) will work with pan pastels. If it dries too smooth, you can always rough it up with sandpaper.

    How do you adhere the foil to 110# cardstock? What kind of glue do you have to use to get it to stick onto the cardstock really good?

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio 2 місяці тому

      I like to use tin tape because it has a strong adhesive that I can apply directly to 110lb cardstock. If I'm using aluminum foil, I use a good quality glue like Art Glitter glue, but any PVA or wood glue will also work. To see a detailed video about how to do this, check out this video that I created: ua-cam.com/video/xbJGpunxPo0/v-deo.htmlsi=P3kAusE0QAL2kkmi

      Unfortunately I don't have an experience with raster engraving. All the images that I used with the deco foil were PDF images I printed on my computer.

    When using the Pebeo Vitrea paint, cure your project in the oven at 325F for 40 minutes. But make sure that the oven is up to temperature before adding your project! If you're using another glass paint, make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for curing.

      You're welcome! That's fantastic! Modeling paste and stencils work beautifully in paintings. Sometimes I mix the color in and other times I paint it on top. There's so much versatility when using mediums.

    You don’t need the scissors, just twist the cap and it breaks the plastic. I love these paint markers as well.
