Great job, thank you for the videos. I'm building a KitFox ss right now. Just finished this step. Your videos have been very helpful. Keep them coming!
Thanks Mr. Turner! Trying to get back after it. Happy Holidays
it's looking great
Thanks for the numbers!
Good day, you are welcome. Thanks for watching. Per Kitfox’s request, those are old prices and they will of course be higher now. My recommendation is to not wait to buy. Merry Christmas!
It’s good to see you back at it. Also has to be getting pretty cold where you’re at. I ordered my engine on 10/8. Still waiting on notification of shipping. I started using some Super-Fil on the wings to clean up the installation of the laker leading. I plan on starting the covering process after thanksgiving.
Thanks for the comments Kevin. It is getting a wee bit chilly there in good ‘ole SD… but it is 75º where I’m at currently. I’ll be in the cold here in the next two weeks! Back to the work I should be focused on! After talking to Jan at the Viking factory it sounded like after purchased it would be a few months before things were ready. I assume it ships via LTL? Happy Thanksgiving Kevin.
I can't begin to express how helpful your videos are. You are also one of the most patient people I've ever seen. You take all the setbacks in stride.
for half that you could go with viking engine and prop
@@RaulDiaz-z6l that is the plan sir. Just visited the factory back in August. Do you have one? Thanks, Matt
😊nice to see you drop another video and see you working on your project. I hope the next video will be out soon.
If you are using Oratex, the fabric will stick to anything that has glue
Hello @kitesurfjerry, thanks for the information. Unfortunately I am not using the Oratex, thought about it but went with John M’s suggestion of the Poly. I will do some experimenting and see what I find out. Have a great day, Matt
Nice idol
Thanks very much. Which idol are you speaking of?
First of all, I love the T-shirt ❤❤. I just finished my the fiberglass on the vertical and rudder. I did mine exactly how Harlan Payne did his on the Farm Fox and they turned out great. I did have to make 4 relief cuts on piece that attached to the vertical stab to get the fairings to stop bowing. I also cut mine to be inline with the top of the top wooden rib, if that makes sense. I didn’t go all the way to the top of the bar because I’m going to use basswood blocks up there instead of the foam. I just hate how difficult that foam was to work with on my horizontal. Both Harlan and Brian Bowen used wood and it turned out amazing.
Hello Rob, thanks for the T-shirt like! I will have to watch Harlan’s video. It took me a few times of placing the fairing up against the V-stab, then looking at the instructions again. I figured out I needed to drill through it for the 3 attachment points for the eyelets, then the metal piece down low for the rudder stops. It has seemed to glue up well against the V-stab. Would you mind sharing some photos with me about your relief cuts? 605-290-3864. I think the wood end pieces would be easier to work with and shape. I’m sticking for now with the foam blocks because I’ve been using them thus far. I’m going to cover them with some Super Fill though that I bought about a year ago! That will give me some new skills working with bondo for future mistake cover-ups! Have a great day, thanks for watching and commenting! Matt
Don't forget to tell us on your next video what Brandon said about the stiffeners. :) Good video thank you !
Hello Sir, I’ll be sure to do that. Since you went above and beyond and asked the question I will tell you. On the Rudder, bottom rib he said I need to put some lateral stiffeners in there. As for the 3 that I cut on the vertical stabilizer, he said they were not necessary since that rib has good contact points all around which helps keep it very rigid. So since I cut my last one into small pieces I will have to buy some more someplace. “They” seem to be pretty proud of that aviation birch plywood. I appreciate you watching and writing. Matt
Glad you are still at it mate
Thanks Jeremy, it has been a busy summer… not working on the plane unfortunately. How is yours coming along?
@@KingFox76 Same as you by the sound of things, put a hold on it all due to life , finance and time. I am at the wing section in the build manual, and will be starting again in 3 to 4 weeks time fingers crossed
@@jeremykemp3782 Life does take precedence for sure and that affects everything. Well if you are on the wings you are ahead of me for sure! Keep it up Jeremy, I hope all goes as planned for you. I hope I am that far along here in the near future.
As always your videos are the only one I stop work and watch.
I sure appreciate it Sir! Thanks for commenting and letting me know. I’m working on another now.
Did you having any issues getting the console slot to align with the flap handle? I’m gonna have to do a lot of filing on the right side of the slot to get it where the flap handle moves forward and aft without binding
Holy smokes Rob, I apologize for missing this question until now. I had many other problems as you may have seen already. I did have to do a little filing but not more than a few strokes or two to align the holes up with the notched brackets for the flap handle decent bracket. Have you called to speak with Brandon about the issue? I had some alignment issues with the tail trim actuator on the tail & he suggested I move some washers from one side to the other to align it better & that worked. Perhaps this is something you could try, it has been a little while since I put them in I don’t remember what the washer situation was like on that item or if there was any used for spacing. Please let me know what you came up with & thanks for writing. I’ll be faster in the future. Happy Building, Matt
@@KingFox76 no worries. I actually finished the whole center console today and will be starting the pedals tomorrow. I had to slide the aft portion of the console as far to the right as it would go to get the flap handle through the slot. Even with that, I had to do some grinding on the slot to open it up more. I did contact KF but was pretty much told to modify to make it work 🤷🏼♂️. Hope you received that 3D printed gust lock in the mail. Check out Trent palmers video on how to use it. I mailed it in its stowed position. Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to the next video.
@@robhaynes6173 Hello Sir, I’m overseas and sometimes I don’t get the good WiFi for a while. I’m happy to hear that you got the console installed. The pedals gave me a headache for sure, I wish you the best of luck with them. My neighbor sent me a picture of the package so I think it did arrive. 🙏 you so much for sending them to me. I’m pretty pumped to see them when I get home in August… the latter half. I’ll be sure to do a video on them and include your name if you don’t mind. I will go watch Trent’s video now. Stand by for another reply. Have a great day and hope you had a good vacation with the family. Matt
@@robhaynes6173 Well Rob, that thing is pretty badass. I must say thank you again, I sure appreciate the gesture. I haven’t watched one of Trent’s videos in a while and I totally missed that video that you recommended. Thanks a lot, I hope that soon I will be able to use it if I finish the build. Lots of projects for sure, I need to prioritize the build and get it done. Have a great weekend, you are a great person. Matt
@@KingFox76 I don’t mind at all.👍🏻
Hey guy, glad you're plugging away at it. Always a joy to see your videos.
Hello Sir, thanks for watching and commenting. I’m working on the next video as I type this. You have a great day, Matt
Always get excited when your videos come out. The best build on UA-cam. Thanks for the extra effort.

I appreciate the view, Like and comments! Rest assured I’ll keep plugging away.
Dude I'm excited to start watching... Glad your back...
You and me both! I’m trying to put the videos out faster but just when I think I’m getting ahead I have a video setback. I’m hoping to get the next one out sooner rather than later. Thank you for commenting.
Your Welcome! Thanks for the honorable mention!
You da Man! You flying yours yet? I hope to get there one day.
Gotta pay credit where it is due!
Looking good guy. Glad to see another video from you.. Cant wait for the fuselage covering.
Thanks for commenting. That will make two of us! That is the scary part in my opinion. I can hang Sheetrock, but muddying it is another story. I pray that I can do a good job. Have a great day and watching another video.
@@KingFox76 I think it will be easier than you think.. As you know there are tons of videos on the subject. I can't wait to build my own kitfox. Just need to get the wife on board. there's something about building and flying your own machine. So I'm told. You are methodical and careful and you have a bunch of us out here cheering for you..
@@kikker2087 Thanks again for the reply, there are more that is for sure. The reason I started my channel due to the lack of videos on the subject, I was unsure this was a project that I could handle. I appreciate the cheering, you need to get her up in a small plane to see if she likes it or not. That could be a deal breaker but I’m sure you will convince her. It is pretty cool to fly into a place, have your car brought up to you and then you go shopping all day! True story
Good idea there with the yardsticks. I just eyeballed it on my build and fortunately I was wearing my glasses at the time so I think it all came out straight. By the way, I see that you still have those little "tape strips" running sideways across your ribs. When I saw that on mine I just figured they were there to help keep the ribs from sticking together during shipping, or perhaps when being laser-cut. Since the manual didn't mention what that was, I just peeled it all off of my ribs.
Hello Mr. Sisson, thanks for watching and commenting. I was going to do something similar using the square like I did on the horizontal stabilizer, actually I think I used a piece of Owen’s Corning EPS foam! Not the best straight edge but it worked. One of my subscribers, Jason Murphy, wrote to me and told me to look at some of his build photos on his EAA website build. Once I saw it I thought it was a good idea. So we’ve gone back and forth a bit on iMessage about other tips and tricks. That is one of the times where things like this pay off. I removed those little mole skin strips on my ribs I put in the horizontal stabilizer and will be doing so in one of the future videos. Easier to peel off than try to sand through them for sure. Have a great day, Matt
Hey Matt. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks for watching I hope you like the content. I look forward to the next comment.
Looking good Matt!
Thanks Harlan, I just watched you land on a sand bar the other day and talk about a Cub that nosed over. Cool video. You are up to speed on all the tech for sure. I feel that I’m behind the curve! I need to catch up.
@@KingFox76 Thanks but Your youtube skills are way above mine. I just like to fly.
hello Harlan, I’m hoping to be at your level here in the near future. Maybe I spend too much time on the UA-cam videos! How many cameras do you have on the plane?
@@KingFox76I am not much of a youtuber. I use my phone inside the cockpit most of the time. Just got a gopro 10 about 4 or 5 videos ago. I had a 360 insta for a couple videos and couldn't handle the huge files and slow downloads while trying to edit it, not smart enough to run it was also a problem. haha. I liked being able to pic out what ever direction I wanted but it took huge amounts of time and I'm just not that dedicated to free youtube videos. Haha. I'd rather be flying. I am more just using youtube to store my videos and hope that someone enjoys them along the way.
@@KitfoxPilot Well I would say that I am enjoying them and I think many others are also. I hear you on the free UA-cam videos, the editing part takes me a LOT of time. I’m a big fan of the iPhone also, easy to use and you know where the files go! I like my GoPro but it too creates file sizes that are a bit large for my liking. The camera I find I use the most when filming in the garage is the DJI Mini 2. File sizes are good, quality also and it is on a gimbal when I move it around. Always a catch though, my phone doesn’t like to initiate the blue tooth connection each and every time I have to reconnect. Have a super week, did you get down to Sun and Fun? Matt
NIce detailed informative video Matt. I'm looking forward to more. It looks like you're progressing pretty well.
Thanks for the comments Sir. I’m hoping to get some more out here in the near future, this one was long overdue. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Have a stellar day. Matt
I am glade I picky your site to join. Very informative video.
Hello Ken, I too am glad you have joined up. I hope all the videos will help out, that is the idea behind the channel. I was looking for something like this prior to building and couldn’t find something like this. Fortunately there are more and more channels coming online like this and KitFox has also started a build series which will help future builders. Have a good day, Matt
Can provide me the phone number for kit fox aircraft
Here it is sir ,right off the website: 208-337-5111
This job is a difficult one. I have completed the assembly of these latches but made a few modifications to make the latch close with a little more strength. The whole process took about 6 days. Have fun with this one!
Hello Kevin and thanks again for commenting. As you can probably tell by now I had to stop for the lack of the proper tools. I have them now however I have some more questions for Kitfox. Perhaps I’ll ask you first. Do you have the bubble doors? If so did you fit the door in the opening prior to installing the the flange material at the bottom, up the back and up top, aft of the door for the turtle deck? Did you buy more wood for the 2.5mm shims that are called for? I’m thinking of using popsicle sticks to meet the thickness. Also if you fit the door prior to all of this, have you attached the acrylic to the outside of the door using all the hardware? I’m looking at the rough pics in the manual & it looks like they have the cowling & fabric on. I don’t know if I should wait or proceed! Thanks, Matt
@@KingFox76 Matt, the process is pretty in-depth. You have to fit the flange material onto the square stock outlining the entry point of the door. Once you get everything trimmed and fitting the way you like it you need to use Superfil to make the corners transition properly. The fabric will attach to these aluminum pieces, so smoothness and nice transitions count. Once these are in place the actual door frames can be dry fitted. It’s important to biased the door closer to the rear than the front since the front of the frame is where the gas charged struts will be attached. I will have to purchase a new hinge because my doors are a little closer to the front and the strut mount will rub against the aircraft forward frame. The bubble doors must fit within the channel stock. Always best to make small cuts when removing material from the polycarbonate. A nice long block sander will help to keep the edges straight. The manual and option instructions are helpful but are definitely lacking in depth instruction.
@@KingFox76 Also the shims are only temporary you can use popsicle sticks. But according to the manual you will need some of the shims to support the false ribs under the fuel tanks. Maybe 1 foot or so of the shims.
Hello @@kevinbisig3261, I think I learned this pretty quickly. I was putting the wagon in front of the horses for sure. I was following the manual in the order as I was moving along as I have done so throughout the build thus far only to find out that I needed to skip around again and find something else that I could actually complete before coming back to the doorframe installation. I will need to order some more rib stiffeners and I can then use them in the future for propping up the false ribs in the wings. Thanks for the replies, I look forward to finally getting this completed with smooth transitions like you speak of. Have a good day Kevin, Matt
@@kevinbisig3261for the time being I’ll be using popsicle sticks but have on order some more rib stiffeners as you’ll see in one of my new videos I am short a few pieces due in part to me following the manual again to find out that some are not necessary and there was a recommendation from Brandon to add some where they are not called for on the lowest rib in the rudder. Thanks again for the comment, have a good weekend. Matt
Matt you are awesome buddy. You inspire alot of people to build. Thank you.
@916medic, thanks very much for your encouraging words. That is the idea behind the videos, I hope I don’t bore anyone watching the not-so-fun portions that I like to include. For me those are the hunting of parts in the boxes. I thought I was well organized with the digitizing of the inventory… but I failed to leave out the box numbers sometimes! All part of the fun and learning. Have a great day, Matt
Hey Matt, I'm enjoying your build sequence. I like that you don't edit out the oopsies. Makes it real. I hope I can learn from your challenges. I'll be a year or so behind you.
Hello @prsediac, thanks for the message and I’m very happy that you are enjoying the build. I am too, even with all the “oopsies” as you mentioned. I figured it wouldn’t be real if I did everything the right way each time. Honestly most of the time when I do something right I am pretty amazed! Thanks for watching and I hope your kit arrives sooner than expected. Have a good day, Matt
Where did you pick up the 100 degree countersink bit?
Hello C Martin, I bought it on Amazon in 2021 for $17. This is the description of it: KEO 53530 Cobalt Steel Single-End Countersink, TiN Coated, 100 Degree Point Angle, Round Shank, 1/4" Shank Diameter, 5/16" Body Diameter. I also like to use Drillsandcutters.com, they offer them too… and it appears they are cheaper. Thanks for inquiring. Have a good day, Matt
Go get some " Tech" brand patches. Tech glue also. Do not use cheap patch kits from the parts house. If you are going to attempt to repair the tube do it with professional grade glue and patches. I do this for a living. Most tire shops have too many silly rules and regulations nowadays to even touch anything like this. And quite honestly are not competent enough to do the job correctly. That's how I get my business. I do the tire work No one else can do . If you grind on that tube to repair it , it can only be doe one time. If you screw that up you definitely cannot fix it. Please listen to me and get the proper material ro do the job. Just trying to help bud.
Also when you are assembling the wheel halves put just enough air in the tube to round it out. All you are trying ttobso is get the wrinkles out. Use tons of dishwashing soap to make the beads slick as possible. Good luck.
Hello Sir, thanks for the advice. I enjoy it when folks reach out that know what they are doing, as you can tell from the videos I’m definitely not an expert! So as you may already know I did in fact use not one but two patches from the parts house. So my question for you (this is behind the scenes info btw) as my tire is still flat. Can I take the two patches off that I’ve applied and put a good one on using the Tech brand that you mention? I lightly scuffed the tube using the cheap little metal thing that came with the patch kit. Is that what you mean when you refer to grinding? Thanks again for the help, I do appreciate it.
Another good tip that I will use. As I mentioned in my previous reply, the tire is still going flat so I have to take it off the craft again… I will eventually be really good at this. I will add a small amount of air to get the wrinkles out. Soap without water for the beads? And lastly, in your opinion, if this was your tire and you patched it yourself, would you feel comfortable flying it that way or would you just get a new one? According to Airframes Alaska they said I need a new tire. I was only trying to patch it so I could continue using it while it is in the shop. Thanks again for reaching out with good info. Have a good day, Matt
@KingFox76 it's not rocket science. Just wantcthe beads slick. Doesn't matter about the water. As far as trusting the repair check the patch before you reinstall with soap. If it's not leaking it will hold. Of course they told u to purchase a new tire. Hell I wish I needed tires that big on my plane. I'd buy that one from u . I wish I had a penny for everytime a salesman told someone they" needed a new one". I'd be a millionaire!!! Ha! If you already tried I'm afraid u can't re-grind the tube . That's why I stressed in the beginning it must be done correctly the first time. I definitely would fly with my repair . If it's dine properly it's chemically bonded as one. Good as new. If it's leaking down after a repair attempt I definitely would not fly though. That wouldn't be very smart!
@@richardturner6278 We could call it rubber science. In the not so near future I’ll be using your techniques with the soap. So using the small little scuffing tool is what you call “grinding?” Just so that I am clear. So for now I’ll be sticking to using the tire in the shop only. Thanks again for the good gouge Sir. Have a good day, Matt
Good stuff. I appreciate the detailed focus on the actuator assembly.
Thanks Mr. Pierce, I hope the videos are helping you out. Have a good day, Matt
Good detailed explanation of what you were doing to supplement the time lapses.
Hello again Mr. Pierce, I had some folks tell me they didn’t like the time lapses as they don’t show near the detail. I try to use them now when I’m doing something that I explained once or demonstrated. Trying to get better as I learn to edit more videos. Have a great day, Matt
@@KingFox76 Keep it up man. A good balance of explanation and time lapse to music, is fun to watch. 👍
Hey Matt, not advice about how to get the rubber on easier, but I noticed you installed the bolts through your wheel halves from the outside, with the nuts under the brake disk. I think if you look you'll see that it should be the other way around. Much easier during pre-flight to see those nuts in place.
Hello Mike, you are correct sir and I appreciate you pointing out my blunder. Since the tire is again flat… I have to pull it off the rim again and I will fix my mistake. I’m making a video of that too, I hope you don’t mind if I name drop you in the video? I appreciate your attention to detail. Take care, Matt
Nice pun in your text to the tire expert. That elicited a good chuckle.
Thanks Jeffrey, sometimes I don’t know if my humor goes unnoticed! Glad it didn’t get by you! Have a stellar day, Matt
Hey Matt! Whenever I'm dealing with airplane tubes I use a crap ton of talc. I'm not familiar with these integrated tube/tires but I've had 2 tubes leak on the sidewall due to lack of talc. Seems like it would help the rubber slide where it is supposed to be instead of sticking in the gap. Keep you powder dry!
Hello Frank, I appreciate the information. It is probably very obvious that I’ve not dealt with tires much and I can use all the help I can get. I’ll do my best to keep the powder dry! Thanks for writing. Have a good day, Matt
Blame biden😂😂😂
I might just do that! Thanks for writing and watching!
Matt, what cameras and editing software are you using? How about the music? I'm going to get things going before my kit arrives. Waiting for better Wx in the PNW.
Hello Stu, thanks for asking. I go between my iPhone, iPad, DJI Pocket 2 and a GoPro Hero 9. I really like the iRig holder for my phone as I can clamp it on about anywhere while videoing for up close shots. The DJI I’m still learning, I do like its size and the mic that comes with it captures the audio very well. I tried to use that mic with my iPhone but it doesn’t work that way so I’ve now picked up the DJI mics that I can record on and take video with any other device. Easy to transfer also. LumaFusion is the software I chose on my iPad, I thought the price point was good and they update it all the time and are always adding new features. Not to mention they have good YT series that walk you through about anything and their customer support has been spot on. They have a music/media subscription that I subscribe to called Storyblocks. I don’t really use much of the footage and I’m not too sure how much I like the music. I think I may end up using some of the same tracks over and over again, I’ve also had a rash of copyright issues with UA-cam with that. However most of time after getting the wording just right via a back and forth with LumaFusion, after appealing the copyright issue it is usually removed after a few days. Again thanks for asking the questions. If you don’t know, I do list almost everything (minus the software for editing which I can add, thank you) under the videos where the description is. I think you have to click on “more” then scroll down, also with links if wanted. Thanks again and have a great day, Matt
@@KingFox76 Thanks for the info Matt!
@@StuPierce77 Anytime Stu, fun to know people are watching. If you are new to video editing I would recommend starting to practice. The editing is what takes me so long. Good luck with your build and your channel.
OMG DID U CALL ANYONE AT KITFOX ON THIS ?
Hello @rcking911, I did call and spoke to Brandon about this issue. I had to adjust some washers to get things lined up. It turns out you don’t have to use all the washers if it helps line everything up. Is that what you were referring to? Thanks for writing and let me know if I answered your question. Have a good day, Matt
I like the musical time lapse. Good job of balancing narration with video.
Hello again @StuPierce77, I know that some of my earlier videos were not that great. Not only was I trying to learn how to build an airplane but I was also learning to talk to the camera and make videos. Steep curves for me, hopefully you will find they might get better as you move along. I appreciate the comments, they help out. Have a good one, Matt
Thanks for doing the build on your channel. It’s very helpful.
Hello @StuPierce77, I’m happy to do the build. Are you building also? Thanks for commenting, many don’t and I like the interaction. Have a good day, Matt
@@KingFox76 Yeah, my buddy and I receive our kits this fall. Can't wait. I'm also planning on documenting the build on UA-cam.
@@StuPierce77 Hello Stu, I think you guys are going to have a good time building. Will you guys be working simultaneously or in separate shops? Thanks for watching and commenting, have a great day. Matt
@@KingFox76 Separate shops
@@StuPierce77 Awesome Stu, enjoy the build. I hope you guys can learn from my mistakes and progress. Have a stellar day. Matt
You've probably figured this out by now, but match drilling would be to drill through both the seat and the tabs with the seat installed... this insures the holes "match". Also, a chamfering bit will clean up those burrs much better than that hand deburring tool. Finally, when you install nut plates you can put the center screw in place, then drill straight through nutplate tab hole as a guide... cleco the first hole, then drill the second the same way.
Hello @mikefairbanks, thanks for the info. I am learning still and I appreciate the comments which help me I hope as much as I may help someone else. I did drill through the holes into the seat but not with ballast in the seat. I guess at this point I will see how I fair. If I break it I will have an excuse to learn how to make some carbon fiber seat pans! I bought a chamfering bit, 100º I think too. Now that you mention it, that would have been a perfect scenario to use it in. The handheld deburring tool did not do it justice. Clecos are another of those items that I’m not yet used to. I need to think outside the bun and use them more often to hold things in place. Good call and thanks for the education. Have a warm day, Matt
The best way to do this is to get two people to sit in it when match drilling the top holes.
Thanks for the input Jeremy. How is your build coming along? I hope nothing bad will come with me not having weight in the pan while match drilling it. Have a good day, Matt
@@KingFox76 I have to build my wings next, I did not go for the quick build. You could get some people to sit in it to see how much it is out by, mark the holes and make a decision. Every time two people sit in it now will put stress on those particular holes. It could fracture eventually.
Hello@@jeremykemp3782 well that doesn’t sound great to me. I’ll have to recruit someone to sit in there with me to see how it fares. I put about 65 pounds in the seat pan when I was making my marks but not two people worth of weight. The wing build looks like it is pretty in depth, I wish you the best of luck with that and am interested in the process. Have a great day and thanks for commenting. Matt
@@KingFox76 You could just make the hole bigger in the seat pan and use a washer to the original size of the existing hole.
Thanks for the idea Jeremy, when I get back on location with the craft I will look into this. Have a good day, Matt
Excellent job building. I am building an STI series 7. I like your idea of using your seat cushions as a guide; for the seatbelts, I'm gonna steal that idea. I can do it while I'm waiting for bolts and nuts. Nice job I'm assuming you live in Alaska? I'm from Fairbanks, Alaska, building in Mississippi. Keep the videos coming.
Never mind I was wrong SD
Hello @kryptekkitfoxsti, I like the name by the way. You are correct, I am in SD… sometimes it feels like it may in Alaska I would guess. Last week we had -40f which was just delightful. Those are the days I’m happy to have a little heater & a well insulated garage! I like to listen to the wind howl while I grind away on the aircraft. How far along are you on your build? Are you missing nuts & bolts from your delivery? I’ve been installing everything, most things that I know I will need to remove I don’t torque down, I’ll need to pick up some replacements from either KitFox or Aircraft Spruce in the near future I’m sure. Thanks for the comment, good luck with the build. Matt
Hi Matt, I'm up to almost exactly where you are in my build. I've found your videos extremely helpful, thanks for publishing them! I've gone back and forth on my floorboard attachment method and just this weekend decided that I'm going to do rivnuts. I bought the Doyle kit from Harbor Freight and an 8-32 and 10-32 mandrel and rivnuts from Amazon. I went with steel so that they match the frame material and are stronger on the threads than aluminum or SS. I will back them up with hysol so they don't spin. I did some reading on the forum and it looks like Josh Esser and a few others were successful with them. Also, Bryan Bowen used them for his doors so that you don't have to put a nut on the inside of the frames. His video inspired me to bite the bullet on the method.
Hello @damienradford7143, I’m glad you have found the videos to be helpful and hopefully a little humorous at times. Some folks don’t always appreciate he dryness of if. I’m going to have to go check out Bryan Bowen’s video. I should have bought the tool also when I was initially playing around with them. Sometimes I try and cut corners where I shouldn’t. I just made a note of the tool you purchased since I was actually looking at one from Marson (39315). And since I’m coming up on the doors I’m sure there is something for me to learn before I make another mistake. Personally I think if they can be installed and do not spin they make for adding access to an area that may need to get inspected later easier to access. I think 7KiloFox mentioned something about this also when it comes to installing the floor in the cargo compartment. Thanks for the good information and happy building. Matt
Doors, Rudder assembly, and vertical stabilizer. Almost done with fuselage.
Affirmative Sir, I just about started on the doors… but found out I needed a tool so I skipped them for the moment. Tool is the purchase list. Once I get these last few steps completed I suppose I’ll be moving on to the wings. Maybe I’m closer than I think to covering! Again, thanks for the comments. Matt
Thanks for the video. Stuck in the house down by Houston. Down here if it freezes, the whole town shuts down. You have the best and only detailed kitfox build. Your videos will be on you tube for decades…
Hello @whudman, there is definitely a bit of a cold snap gripping the states at the moment. A great time to crank up the heater, work in the garage and listen to the wind howl outside! I hope you don’t have any issues down there. Thanks for the comments about the videos, that was what sparked the idea in the first place. I saw a lot of time lapse builds but nothing that focused on the details… and failures along the way. I know some of them are long but I’m hoping it will help people who do not know what is entailed to see if this process fits within their skill set or not. Thanks for the comment and stay warm. Matt
Great progress! Always look forward to your videos. My S7 STi will be ready for pick up in May…finally…after 2 years. Really looking forward to building. Going to Vegas this weekend for the EAA fabric covering seminar.
Hello @warrenlovell3919, thanks for watching & commenting. I am very happy for you & I think you will really enjoy the build. I was fortunate to get a small class at the KitFox Fly-in I attended. Brandon did an on-the-fly fabric class & I was quick to raise my hand to volunteer to help as that was one of my concerned areas. I did order the practice fabric kit from KitFox & should put a video out on that as well. Ideas keep coming in! Have fun at Vegas, Matt
