When going downhill, if you stop pedaling, the suspension should automatically go into open mode...or not?

That Venge has seen some stuff🙂
I think I'm keeping it forever.
we have similar hobbies, heh i have a chargemaster too, upgraded to a autotrickler v4. Was thinking about a SL8, but now im thinking about the scott addict RC
I'd love an Autotrickler, and think I'd like an Addict RC. At $9K for a Dura-Ace build I think it's a relative bargain.
@@Highway_95 I was planning on building the SL8, but since the addict RC is 14ish lbs with Dura ace at that price point I want that now. With Sram red its even 13ish lbs!!
@@darklyte24 yep. Addict should be really good. We have three Scott MTBs in the garage and the build quality is great.
lol came here because I saw bike title and charge master
I bought same size (380mm X 90mm) Roval handlebar from AliExpress and I love it! The only thing I’ve changed is the top cap. I bought an original Specialized top cap and it fits a lot better.
@idaho 95 I’ve been looking at these black model I have problems with my ankle rolling inwards hitting the crank arm. Hoping these give me the support for that not to happen. Thanks for the video not a lot like this on UA-cam
I don't have that problem so can't say for sure but I think that they may work for you because they have more arch support and should keep your foot from collapsing inward.
@ thanks for the reply I appreciate it.
I can't imagine doing a custom build unless my girlfriend owns the bike shop and is going to get me the parts at cost. Paying full retail for every part would break the bank.
I used wheels, saddle, dropper, stem, bar, brake rotors, and drivetrain that I already had so that saved a lot of money. I just bought frame and brakes. Later I sold the suspension and upgraded to Flight Attendant.
Two absolute stunning bikes!
Thanks, they deserve better photography but that's all I've got while it's only 20 degrees outside.
Great information thank you
Interesting to hear your thoughts on the comparison, thanks
This was an interesting test of the algorithms. A couple weeks ago you said the algorithm was was guaranteed to feed you any SL8 content so I decided to make a couple videos.
Had the Venge bit being a big guy it was such a bone shaker 😬! So when the SL7 and the rose was noticeably more comfortable then when to the SL8 which was again noticeably more comfortable on the rear. My 54cm SL8 was 6.2kgs 13.67Ibs. May get a touch lighter after the custom paint and some small part upgrades! Love it! Well until the SL9 or an updated Venge gets released 😂
Cheers for the comparison mate. I can only compare my Venge to a Tarmac Sl6. They are both fast but the venge feels faster. Honestly never felt the need to get the SL8. I've put on an exs integrated bar then shed some weight and the the venge feels just as nimble as the sl6. The venge is 7.1kg with enve's 5.6. Can shed more weight with a lighter wheelset but I feel it's light enough.
11r not 10r. But same on all venges
Nice video. I have a 2020 Venge and I just put light weight wheels on it and it rips. I’m thinking about doing the Latoga race. I think if I were you I’d sell the sl8 with the rovals and the Venge handle bars and keep the Venge with the enves and the new bar. You could probably get like 8 grand for that bike and keep all the good stuff on the Venge.
I'm a Venge guy but that's a nice SL8, I'd throw 80mm deep dishes on it to regain the sail effect if it were mine
Hello! So before the Venge, You had Giant TCR. Tell me it’s worth going from TCR to Venge or SL8? On TCR I have quit agressive position and narrow handlebar so Venge or Sl8 may didn’t give me much speeds. What do You think? I weigh 60kg so maybe too light for Venge (crosswinds on fast descends).
@@Pablo_Coach hard to say for sure but the Venge was definitely faster than my TCR.
@ same wheelset and body position? What size of TCR do You have had?
@@Pablo_CoachI rode a Medium TCR. Venge and SL8 are 54cm.
I am not sure if I or anyone for that matter should take you serious describing SL8 when you dont know your Venge. Thats not a 2019 that’s a 2020 model in SATIN BLACK/HOLOGRAPHIC BLACK. Just because your serial number has a 2019 year doesn’t mean its 2019. Serial represents the date of production. Venge Pro is carbon r11 not r10. Unless you are new to road bikes or you just trolling saying SL8 is same as Venge is silly. Is sworks really your bike or your just showcasing a store bike?
It's definitely a 2019. Purchased new in Aug 2018. Yes, 11R carbon, you could tell at that point I stumbled on the exact numbers but the point is the same, it was identical to the S-Works at the time. At that point the S-Works Tarmac was 12R but the S-Works and Pro Venge were both 11R. Here's an article from Aug 2018 with pics of the exact same model and paint. The SL8 is definitely mine, raced it a bunch last season including 202mi at LOTOJA. Venge has done LOTOJA 5 times. www.bikeradar.com/news/the-2019-specialized-venge-pro-is-an-s-works-in-disguise
@ I can verify what year your bought it. You care to share your serial number? ( just kidding please don’t share your serial number). I think you got your dates wrong. You or whoever bought it they had to buy it in 2019. Unless you are an abassador and you tested I don’t remember early release for sale of your frame.
@@bencyclingarage guaranteed dates aren't wrong because on September 1st, 2018 I crashed it and put myself in ICU. Altered my life pretty big time for a long time and still have the five fake teeth from the crash and numb lips and tongue. @@Highway_95 Your dates do seem wrong, you couldn't by a non Sworks Venge for the first 6 months. Not sure why everything feels sus except for the wrists busing.
@@michaelmiglerI don't have any reason to lie about the dates. I bought it at Barrie's Ski and Sports in Pocatello, ID on August 18th, 2018. My Strava from that date shows first ride with a pic of the bike in the garage. I ordered it immediately after the launch was announced. Unfortunately, 2 weeks later there are multiple pics of the bike smashed up and covered in my blood.

It'll go lower if you need it to.

@@davido8086yeah, as soon as I get around to it I'll get white S-Works logos for the frame.
Hey nice bikes and that was a pretty epic ramble! Not ridden a Venge, but have heard enough people IRL as well as in videos and on socials suggesting that it's one of if not the fastest bikes they've ever ridden (I wouldn't be surprised if Specialized release a new version of it in future). I recently bought an S-Works SL8 and coming from a 5.4kg rim brake S-Works SL6 and a 7.9kg Allez Sprint I have to admit I initially had buyers remorse. The SL8 is great, just not worth the asking price IMHO. I'm happy that all 3 bikes feel different to ride though. The SL6 is so damn light it's amazing up hills. The Allez Sprint is so aggressive, feels so fast and just eggs me on to ride harder, the SL8 feels like it's in the middle; it's hands down the most comfortable of the 3 and the bike I can ride for the longest on. All the best with the channel!
Depending on specs I'd potentially sell both of these bikes to buy a new Venge.
Great video!!! 💩 how’d you end up in the ICU?
PS, I ride an s-works SL6 and an S-Works Venge. Hard to give up but I’ve very much contemplated it. I like this video

ENVE are not made in USA
enve.com/pages/why-enve Scroll down just a bit. All current rims and wheelsets are handmade in Ogden, UT, USA.
@Highway_95 they are built no made
@Highway_95 99% of the rims come from the same Chinese region. 90% of the hubs and spokes come from the same Chinese region.
@@Zozas_The_Cyclist ENVE brought their rim production back in house a couple years ago. The rims are hand laid in Ogden for all SES wheels, their Foundation 45 and 65 wheels, and I'm pretty certain all MTB wheels. They are actually manufacturing in Ogden, not just assembling components sourced in China. I rode with their GM and one of their board members two weeks ago.
I'll check with them on the MTB wheels.
Your handlebar choice scares me. Hope you properly tested it? Though I did not get a specialized bar, I went with one that though made in China, was known. Its called Avian Falcon. Been advised to stay away from items where the manufacturer does not even wish to place their own brand. Admittedly I have seen some good reviews for the Rovals sold on Ali
raw carbon frame is the best color! I ride the same 4.5s they are amazing wheels, a lot of Enve haters out there, but the product is fantastic, I'm a big fan!
I'll cover the 4.5s more in the next video but they're fantastic.
Hi, great video, very informative. I am 5'10" too and in between M and L... I went to test Epic 7 (two years ago I think) and few months ago I tested Epic 8, same as you, could only ride it in the shop, and bikes were not set up for me to be honest. Epic 7 - it was hard to choose between M and L, both were fine for me. Epic 8 - I felt a little bit cramped on M and better on L, comparing to Epic 7. I went for a bike fit, and I was suggested L straight away, even with longer stem if I wanted to ride long gravel/fire roads, which has surprised me to be honest. Still thinking about M or L, but I think L will be better for me. If I was you I would try shorter stem (I know, you would have to replace Roval handlebar), and you would have an idea how it rides. I have read that it is better going with shorter stem, rather than longer, but Jesse from The Bicycle Station is 5'11", and he rides M with 80 mm stem... so I suppose it would work too... I wish I was a little bit shorter or taller :) Trek makes M/L sizes and when tested Fuel it fit me like a glove :) EDIT: What stem length have you got now? Is it 60 mm?
@@funLad80 my fit is perfect so I don't have any reason to try a shorter stem. My interest in riding a M is to get the shorter wheelbase. I would put a 90-100mm stem on the M so that I get identical fit to my current bike but with a shorter wheelbase for quicker handling on tighter trails. However, longer stems also make steering seem slower so it may not actually change my ride feel.
@@Highway_95 I see, I understand now. Can't wait to build mine. I need to start looking for frameset as here in Europe you can't find many. All the best!

custom build is always the way to go! I'm dying to switch my Blur TR parts to an S-Works frameset, but having to figure out a way to get rid of the fork and shock is killing me. I have a FA on the Blur so already have a FA fork I can use would only need a shock, but them I have no use for the fork that comes with it. I can live with the shock but the fork is a hard one to swallow. So basically I'd only need a FA shock + 30.9 Reverb AXS since the Blur has a 31.6. Everything else is a direct swap.
I was able to sell the fork and shock that came on my second Epic 8 S-Works frameset for $1000. You could probably do similar. Check my most recent video for updates and see it with FA.
Just saw that you are local to me. If you ride a Large I have a frameset for you 😁
I’m borderline Medium 😂

Thanks for this helpful info; I wanna hit a curb square without thinking about it… my local trails dictate the need.
I definitely get that. There is a fix though. FA has an option to where it will only use the pedal and open positions on the fork. It makes it feel a lot more like riding on a traditional fork but you get good pedal support without a complete lock out.

@@kenmunozatmmrrailroad6853 I'm overdue for an update video with a few things that I've sorted out.

Thx for the videos. I had so many Epic8 questions that your videos have answered. So flight attendant is a full system using data from the fork, shock. And power meter Crankset. Does the reverb axs dropper have anything to do with the FA system? Just wondering because if not it would make sense to run a cable actuated dropper like a fox transfer SL and save some significant weight/$$ over the reverb axs
Rockshox has been asked that question a few times and their engineers dodge the question every time or say something to the effect of, "that's proprietary information." If I was designing the system I absolutely would use whether the dropper was up or down to influence the bias. Dropper down, more likely to unlock. I haven't specifically tested that scenario to see if I can tell a difference. Transfer SL definitely would save weight. Check out a video that my buddy Josh and I did on the channel "Low Angle Adventures." He runs a Transfer SL on his Epic 7 EVO and his bike is definitely lighter than mine.
I ride an xl epic evo 7 and thinking of upgrading to the Epic 8. do you think I could ride the epic 8 in a large at 6'2"? was thinking of going down a size for a more nimble and lighter bike.
Tough call. I fall right on the line between M and L on almost all sizing charts and always feel more comfortable on a Large. That said, my friend and I just filmed a comparison video between the Epic 7 Evo and the Epic 8. I came away really impressed with his bike. Watch the channel Low Angle Adventures. I'm not sure when he'll get the editing done.
By the way love the combo of black frame and the blue fork
Thanks. I think it looks great.
Going with the frame up build did you worry at all about Specialized talk of custom tune to their standard fork shock talk? I know the rear FA shock is listed as for the epic 8 so do you think that has the tune already?
If you order the part numbers that SRAM lists for the Epic 8 you get the correct tune. On the fork I don't think that it's anything special but you want the correct shock.
heyy do you sell the frame in mechanic ?
The Sram/Rock Shox rep reckons that the Sid Lux fork doesn't need a full replacement for Flight Attendant, only the internal damper needs to be replaced.
Yes, I've covered that in a couple of my videos. The damper and control module can be replaced for $650. This only works for 2024+ SID forks. The SID Luxe shock has to be completely replaced though. The Flight Attendant version is machined differently.
You know you don’t lose watts or speed when you have bobbing in your pedalling. It feels faster but it’s not
How did you measure that?
You need the Dynaplug racer pro version. It has 3 on the small plugs if you flip the tips around. I don't think silca is as good as advertised. I only trust the first step for real stuff, step 2 is fine for Saturday rides. No sealant has blown me away and silca is easiest to clean off the inside of the tire, so I'll stick with it for now.
