The second, less known variant of Astarion's act 2 romance scene. Requirements: - Resolve the deal with Raphael. - Witness the scene in Moonrise Towers featuring Ketheric Thorm and goblins. - Do NOT talk to Araj the drow merchant with Astarion present in the party. - Long rest. (It can take more than one long rest to trigger, sometimes.)

This is how the meeting with Araj Oblodra plays out if you talk to her after the other variant of Astarion's act 2 romance scene has already happened. Not a lot of difference, but do you need an excuse to watch Astarion-related content? I didn't think so. :) Note: Astarion is already at 100 approval here, which is why his approval messages aren't showing up.

so maybe this isn't High Level Gameplay, but I'm still pretty sure this was a more impactful play than the Brigitte holding M1 that got PotG... I suppose it was too long for the PotG clip duration. I'm still salty about it because it was my best Ana game in a while

I’ve seen this scene at least 5 times and that drow dialogue is new. So much content, and it’s likely we’ll never experience it all
There should really be a follow up scene in this version of the romance. I haven’t reached that in my game yet but from what I’ve seen on UA-cam, there isn’t any follow up in this version of the romance route regardless of if he bites her or not. Seems like a wasted opportunity. There’s so many possibilities there, there’s simply being his good partner and having his back but there’s also the chance for relationship faux pas on both sides. The “it’s up to you but we could use that potion option” sounds like you’re making it his choice albeit inattentively and we all know if he bites her he misjudged how he’d react. It could be interpreted as a misunderstanding instead of pressuring him. Some of the options in the pre-confession version don’t make him angry at us and we can apologise, we could easily talk him through it as his partner and either help him feel better or get dumped.
Does he comment on Araj later if you get this scene first?

ugh fine, I'll reload my lastest playthrough and replay the last 3 hours😤 No but honestly, I was wondering how you'd get that dialogue :D I found Araj in my first playthrough so I went for it in the next ones as well. I really like the dialogue you get after meeting her, Astarion sounds so utterly unbelieving that Tav would be so protective of his autonomy and at the same time angry and confused at himself for developing feelings. The way he sounds so gentle and unsure in this dialogue though absolutely melts my heart 😭
You have to admire how brave he is for doing this. With Araj, it kind of tumbles out of him in a big moment of emotion. This required him to work up the confidence to admit his screwed up and then take the leap at opening up emotionally. When you consider where he started at the beginning of the game, to be at the point where he’s willing to try something like this within mere months of meeting you is a big deal. It shows you exactly why he’s going to ultimately survive this ordeal mostly intact.

Okay so i never got a romance scene with Astarion in Act 2 and im already in Act 3. Did i miss something?
The one I got triggers after beating the orthon (persuasion or outright combat works, player’s choice), then long resting.

Indeed, Wulbren treats him like Garbage. So it's self earned that we can make him dethrone Wulbren and become tne new leader of the Ironhands later ^^

@@DarkParagon Yep, in act 3 after blowing up the Steel foundry, but saving the Ironhands and the Gondians from from Iron Throne. You will do the latter anyway if you want to save Wyll's father, too So go ahead, Wulbren's a prick, he doesn't desever Barcus as a friend. But he deserves to be degraded^^

@@MoonsongReverb I had the game bug out by having him become the leader and then talking to Wulbren afterwards, which made the game think both were leader at the same time lol. Might be a scrapped quest result of them having both share leadership, in the final battle they both showed up and made a speech about leading the gnomes lol.

I got this scene in my first playthrough after killing the Orthon for Raphael and him revealing the truth about Astarion's scars. The reveal for the scars plus both my character and Astarion being all bloody and bruised from the fight made his vulnerable confession and hug feel all the more tender and sweet. ❤
i really hope they update the hug scene to be longer, pulling away that quick almost feels violent lol
The scene is exactly the same as if there was no confession... everyone would expect there to be something new/different, but nop... such a click bait... so disappointing...

This is actually the exact same dialogue as before his romance scene. The only difference is the drow dialogue, since other races don't have that option.

Minsc is the character of all time
I got the other version, I didn't know meeting Araj could affect Astarion romance, and now I'm sad :( It was way less special. He didn't explicitly say he was deceiving me, and he didn't say I deserved something real. I also noticed in this version Tav can say "I care about you DEEPLY". All I had was "I care about you". Dangiiittttt I'm so sad 😭
You can get something similar to this in the post-Araj version as well. If you ask "why sleep with me, then?", he will tell you he did it for protection, out of habit, and that he ended up falling for you. So a lot of the same information is actually still there, but it depends on what you say.

I had this one during my first run, and I was totally caught off guard. Because I was like "for god's sake I need to rest before going down to that slimy hole." after the first Ketheric fight. I long rested and Astarion suddenly said "Do you have a moment? I think we need to talk." in a hesitant, emotional and shy manner.... Jesus, WHAT? This guy was the one who always put his head up with an egoistic manner, a great liar and a manipulator, who liked seeing people suffering and such, this guy was the one who tried to suck me without my permission and my goodie two shoes male Tav was always patient towards him of course. I didn't expect him to come to me with a total kind and honest face, saying "You deserve something real..." with a creaking voice, as if he is out of breath a bit because of anxiety. Gods, I'm gonna eat my screen now. That look when he says "Really?" in an almost silent voice.... I hugged him.... He held my hand... We live in a really weird world... My cheeks and whole face was burning and my hands were shaking during this scene which my stupid ass brain fell in love with a fictional character. AND I'M A GROWN ASS WOMAN.
