Fishing for Great Lakes migratory brown trout!
Fishing for big brown trout in a Lake Ontario tributary. I had an hour to kill after work and I thought I was going after stocked brown trout with the 2wt nymph rod, but I was caught off guard by some lake run brown trout.

Fly fishing a wild brown trout stream in Western New York and testing the new GoPro hero 13 black with the all-new wide-angle lens. The lens field of view is 48% taller and 36% wider than the standard lens which makes it very helpful for filming fly fishing videos. It made filming all these wild brown trout being caught a breeze, and I didn't miss out on any of the action because the action was...

Mountain Trout | Mostly Hopper Fishing

I start my day off fishing a double nymph rig on a beautiful Adirondack Mountain River but shortly after I start fishing, I realized I should be dry fly fishing. At first, I just rigged a hopper up on my tag of my euro rod to see if they would eat it and it instantly started getting crushed by brook trout. at that point I decide to head back to the car and grab the hopper dropper rod and that's...

@@MuddyJoker585 yea man
How you liking the ERA rod? I have the 8 weight, no complaints, and would recommend it.
@@michaelcapurso I don’t have any complaints about it. I’m going to try and film a small streamer video with it this week. I actually have the 8wt as well and I’m thinking about selling both of them to get something completely different to replace both of them.
Well, now I know what I need to save my pennies for! Thanks. Nice job fishing!
I've had bigger
@@Kewin-vo2me i normally here that from girls.
Loving the wide angle ... tight lines baby!!
@@MuddyJoker585 thanks bud.
Gotta love them wild boys! I like the wide view, might half to look into getting one for my GoPro. Keep it tight my friend.
@@troutowl thanks bud. The vertical field of view being 48% bigger makes it so you never have to adjust the camera up or down and keeps the action in frame. It’s going to be helpful.
It that time of year baby 2024 anyone ready!!!
Five thumbs up! Great video.
Ive been up and down that rope a few times
Looked down that hill many a time. Always came up with the same answer. Nope!😂 Old boys don’t do hills like that! Got to have the bad days to make the good ones shine!
@@pauljensen3088 I seen the biggest fish I’ve ever seen in that creek and another decent one. The one was really lethargic and probably would have let me snag him if I wanted to but that’s not my style.
@@-fishin Well that’s not good. I have wondered what these past three hot summers has done to fish in our area over all. Being lethargic makes me wonder if the heat has killed off some of their feed. Crayfish, sculpin minnows etc. Water being 59 degrees is encouraging!! I haven’t been there since June. Trip is WAY overdue.
@@pauljensen3088 yea I think it had something to do with the low water level and that section of creek having a lot of flat and slower water so maybe the oxygen level dropped off.
Go back at night
You rock, like seeing young guns experimenting with different aspects of this sport & your personality & attitude rock, after the buck need new undies lol 😆 keep up the good videos, when you get hung up,give it some slack & roll cast, should come unhung, tight lines 🤙
@@Beardedfurflinger thanks bud. I find that the more I try different styles of fly fishing the better I get at all styles of fly fishing. For instance trout Spey has thought me about different locations that trout feed that I wouldn’t have fished with a euro rod or a dry fly stick previously…
Love the video man! Has it been 100 hours yet? How u feeling about the reel so far?
@@JaikerzJake yea I’m probably over that. lol the reel is great. It’s holding up better than i thought it would. The medal is pretty thin and it dings up pretty easy but i toss it around and drop it on rocks and it’s still in perfect working condition. My only issue is that it could be heavier to balance out the rod but i manage just fine with it.
There’s more than one Au sable.. learned that today hahaha

Nice looking stream and fish. Those few that you thought were browns are actually juvenile landlocked salmon if you look closely. Not uncommon in some of those streams up that way. Deep forked tails are dead giveaway.

I fished that section about the time when the heatwave was starting. They were really going after the chartreuse mop.
@@kinahawi nice I haven’t fished a mop much but it probably looks like a Caddis with a case.
Is that a sighter system in your leader with tags extended from each end?
@@biggarfish yea it’s the cortland tri color indicator mono. I run 15-20 foot of maxima chameleon 10 pound off of my fly line to 8 pound indicator mono. From there I run my tippet to the depth I want.

WOW! Mouse dry fishing in winter!! 🙂 Congratulations from Japan. I wonder about the water temperature.
Somewhere between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks for commenting. I’m always shocked when people watch from the other side of the world.
waste of time though......the big brookies are in the back ponds......get a kayak
I have an inflatable sup but the last time I was up it was too cold to submerge the boys. lol also I like catching the little guys on 2wt rods.
Were you using an indicator?
No I was tight line nymphing with a sighter.
@@-fishin nice. What nymphing line do you use? Im thinking about trying that out next.
@@brandonday9001 I have a rio euro line but you don’t need that. Any of your reels you use now will work but if you have a full frame one that will save you some head aches. I would suggest getting 10 pound maxima chameleon leader pulling off 20 foot putting a loop knot 🪢 in one end and attach it to your fly line. From there I ad a three foot cortland tri color sighter and then run your tippet to depth. Casting will be weird at first but it works. lol
Stock extended section you can actually keep 3 fish. 1 fish over 12 inches
Hi... kindly advise max catch competition intouch rod sensitivity as i want to buy 3wt rod urgently... any full cage reel you recommend or should i buy their complete package.. your kind advises will be highly appreciated. Thanks... i am new to euro nymphing and should i look to other manufactueres also?
The max catch in touch 2wt is a great place to start but really I only started using max catch stuff to see if I like different styles of fly fishing but I don’t feel the need to upgrade to something better. The rod is good but the cork and the guides leave something to be desired. I’m actually thinking about buying a 11ft 3wt cortland comp rod but it’s 5 times the price. lol and I use an origin full frame reel from reel fly fishing out of South Africa. It’s the cheapest best looking one I could find but it’s a little bit to light and they can be hard to find. If you have any other questions just ask I’m happy to share. Leaders can be tricky when first starting out.
@-fishin thanks man! Stay blessed.. Origin which model and size... would it balance well with 3wt rod or should I stick with 2 weight rod.. thanks
@simonucaconmosca lovely to hear about your passion for new fishing styles experiances.. my home waters in Pakistan have beautiful trout waters... from lakes, small waters and real big waters.... most of my fishing is in medium to large waters i.e rapid flowing strams with 40 feet width to big rivers more than 100 feet apart.... trout is the primary target... rainbow and brown... catch sizes are from 6 inches to say 11 inches... waters are mixed mostly of which have strong flows..... I wonder if this suffice to give better idea... we catch mostly trout here on spinning gear with flies tied on droppers... would need your kind guidance should I buy fly fishing gear or euro nymphing gear.... thanks
@@faisalrafique6107 it’s hard to say what would be best for someone else because people like different things. The 3 wt would be a great place to start. And as for the reel you might want to look at something a little heavier.
@-fishin thanks man! Infact getting started fly fishing or euro nymphing... contact nymphing I am reading tactical fly fishing by Devis Olsen and books by Gorge Daniels.... seems euro nymphing needs close proximity and is more deadly whilst fly fishing one has not to reach close quarters... you having experienced both styles what's the take to start into this sport.... most of our waters are a bit dangerous to wade though abundant in rocks/boulders on bank sides. These are all coming from glaciers as Pakistan has 4 mountain ranges including K2 and over 600 mountain peaks over 10000 ft. thanks.
I use the ecko gecko as my small stream trout rod, inexpensive and casts great!
The handle is a little small for my hands but it did cast well. Probably didn’t hurt that I put a textured line on it that cost more than the rod to help her out. lol
@@-fishin I have pretty small hands and ya a good line can make a big differnce!
