    Wondering if maybe you can help here. It seems there is an issue with my For loop that either adds or updates inventory. It works great at updating the quantity of my first entry in inventory, but it seems like for any other entries it just adds to inventory. As if the for loop is not cycling through the entire array before settling on False for not-equal Item ID's

      I'm not sure; did you check that you have a directional light (I believe that's the only light that will work properly for this effect) and fog properly working in your scene?

      @@MorriganGameDev It is now. i don't know what was wrong because i just opened a new scene and putt everything in there and now it works. deleted the lights then did everything again following your tutorial and it worked flawlessly. thank you so much for your response though. extremely kind.

    A lot of times when I'm kitbashing, I combine different meshes...like multiple rocks into a mountain. How can I spawn things onto multiple meshes without having the spawned materials go within the hidden parts of the intersected meshes? I tried instancing them but that didn't seem to work because the mesh sampler still samples the individual meshes.

    Im Curious why you used a single data table for your item. Im a beginner and this was a helpful video so it deserves a like. Why wouldnt you have a single data table for your items? Then change row names in the data table? Or better yet, a few different DTs in order to categorize your items. Weapons, Consumables, Armor, Resources, etc?

    • @MorriganGameDev
      @MorriganGameDev 2 місяці тому

      Sorry for the late answer: you're absolutely right. I was simply trying to demonstrate the general idea for an inventory system but you can have a single DT for all items. There's also other similar ways to manage items that pretty much work the same way (slightly different code but the logic behind is the same)

    Im having a problem with the inventory text. I used your third person blueprint from the other video and instead of printing the string for the append i get the string from the 3rd person blueprint. Any ideas what im doing wrong? I dont think my inventory is triggering properly and only the string from my 3rd person blueprint laylout is firing, i tried deleting the blueprints from my character but i dont think the inventory is triggering because theres no text in the upper ;eft corner. The information for what im picking up is not displaying.

      Same thing nothing is firing.

    • @nimravi1995
      @nimravi1995 Місяць тому

      It could be because in this tut, you can only call one data table row at a time, if you have a 2nd item it would need to be changed manually in the BP or have a whole new Data Table with its own row. If you do not call the row name in your Data Table Get Row the exact name you've used in the Data Table itself, it will simply say nothing and not fire. Ie. He called his first Data Table row for his Sword "Item", the Get Data Table Row must also now call for "item" item it cannot called for "Sword", Name" or anything other than exact first row name, if you pick up a 2nd item using the same data table it will not say anything as that 2nd item is using Row 2, which would have a different name. Try adding a "print string" to the "row not found" output, name it something specific and see if it fires that. If it does your Row Names aren't correct. The particular system cannot see the item names or use them as an array. It cannot see the difference between a sword and a shield and call them seperately, it can only see an object calling Data Row: Item and will not name it anything else. In mine I removed "Call Data Row" all together and set the "Add to Inventories" "Item as my "Item Structure" that I had created in there as its own variable. Try connecting that. Cannot tell you how this will go with the rest of the tutorial.

    I forgot one detail in this video: in the B section of the flip flop, between "set visibility" and "set input game only" you should have a "set Widget Inventory" node, with no asset loaded. This allows us to empty the inventory widget when closing the inventory on pressing I. Not doing that results in the inventory being built multiple times with the "create inventory" function, which displays the inventory multiple times, leading to items showing more often than they actually exist.

    bro , how to scale this up into a planetary size?

    • @MorriganGameDev
      @MorriganGameDev 8 місяців тому

      That depends on what you want to do. You could try to get a reference scale, let's say the planet is 1000 Unreal unit, and scale everything from there. I would not recommend trying real life scaling as it's very underwhelming and not representative of what you see in every movie/video game (pretty much things are too big or too spaced out). If it's for a background and there's no interaction, just think of where the camera will be and scale everything to look nice on camera (or from a player point of view). If you're trying a No man's sky type of scene where you have an "accurate" planet with "accurate size" well that's gonna be way more complicated and beyond the scope of the video. So, it really depends on what you have in mind, but, once again, having a planetary scale is tricky as things will likely be too big or too spaced out. If you have a specific idea in mind and want to share it, maybe I can give you a more accurate/detailed answer for your scenario
