Should We Hate Specialized?
Should We Hate Specialized? I am looking at potential new road bikes and the Specialized Roubaix has been a bike I have really liked riding. Although the question is if supporting Specialized is really good or not? Let me know what you all think!

What makes you say that the quality of Trek and Specialized have gone down?
Specialized is the apple of bikes
Nah. It's all of them.
The original 10 speed hoods unfortunately make my hands hurt. But my god the shifting is the best I have ever felt. That lever throw is so short and direct. So light yet elegant and inspiring to look at. (and because the shift lever is carbon there is no slop in it like campag or shimano)
yo Spinergy Z-lite ! Love that wheelset.
100% agree. I purchased a Teammachine R Mpc directly from the BMC site a week ago. Will build it up myself with Bora Ultra WTO 60’s and Super Record Wireless.
Why wouldn’t you just ride a hard tail Mtn bike - it does everything the GB does but better
May fake po bang Shimano Sora crankset no box po
Still loving the C60 with its direct mount rim brakes 😊
I just wanted to get a little preview for what i was getting into before digging into my bike. It's good to see young people who care enough to take the time to do things right. I'm not exactly an old timer or anything, but I put in about 12 years in bikes shops and so often people are in a rush to get things apart and back together that they break stuff along the way and make things worse for themselves. Keep it up, and thanks for the video!
Millennials known for being more Discerning?
Why in the world do you need an over 10k bike thats nuts
Honestly, you never listen to the marketing. LOL. What kind of noob move is that? You look for the bike that has the specs you want, you ride it, and then if you gel with it, you buy one. Easy as. If you don’t get the bike you want, you really only have your own judgement to blame. I’ve been waiting for this “gravel bike” boom for a while, now, so I’m glad I can get one for cheap without having to Frankenbike something from XC and road parts.
I totally understand you. I have an Xc hardtail and an aero roadbike, both race bikes and I told myself, I'm never getting a gravel bike, why get something that's slower than an roadbike and less capable than an mtb. The my wife offered me to buy a 3rd bike cuz I was good. Then I got a gravel bike. And it's all i've been riding for the past month.
rich kid
hi, are these shifters Sora compatible with any 3x9 front derailleur ?
@@Pepin-LB not that I know of, I believe the actuation is only for 2x front derailleurs with that type of 2x shifter :(
I had to get Shimano R8000 mechanical because when I heard that Shimano was no longer going to release a 12sp rim brake groupset, I build my new bike with 0 millennial components.......A.K.A. disc and electronic shifting............not to mention an extra $1,000 for the groupset? Nah! I can't waste money on a tech that is not necessary.
I was considering a Domane SL7 gen3 that my LBS has in stock. It's new and is heavily discounted. It has Sram Force etap, Aeolus Pro v3 wheels. I want comfort above anything. I ride solo for fitness three times per week. My roads have really poor surface, lots of bumps. I don't race. I'm coming from a 2014 Look 566 with 105 groupset. Reading all the comments now makes me think i should avoid this front isospeed as i absolutely hate rattles. Any advice appreciated... I'm also considering a new Specialized Roubaix SL8 comp.
The Roubaix comp is 20% off right now and comes with aluminum wheels yes, but you could get the 105 level carbon wheels for $1,050 so your whole bike would be $5,050. It would be very similar to a Domane SL7 and probably lighter too. In my experience after riding both the Roubaix is smoother to me, I think you will really like it. Just play around with the springs and make sure you have one that dampens it enough for your weight.
@swanauto47 thank you
Dude thank you so much this video is so helpful !!!! I have been absolutely terrified to take my eyes so speed apart after watching your video I will give it a go and let you know how I get on thank you so much again xx
Have to correct you but disc brakes shouldn't be anywhere near a road bike
Why? Just curious. 👍
@@Peter_McKenna587 because a road bike with disc brakes is no longer a true road bike. It's a hybrid part road part dirt/gravel mix
@@dickieblench5001 Roger that! Thanks!
Could you be more underwhelming in you review?
My 2018 Sora bike has almost 17,000 kms, original chain, cassette and crank set
Gravel chainstays are to long! We need max 420mm. BB drop is good at 80mm nowdays. BMC kaius is best IMO and new one 2025 have UDH, but they only sell full bikes and no frames-only.
I find that interesting, I wonder if that’s because there aren’t many systems that work with it like Eagle transmission
You can order a Kaius frameset. In Europe available from July 2025 in a great blue painting.
@@marcindabrowski9172 they are 2 years late.. Already ordered S works Roubaix SL8.
i was with you until the press fit part
I have a set of these on my commuter road bike a decent tyre for reliable miles but for my road bike GP4S are so much better grip wise and tangibly faster decent puncture protection to boot.
How does the puncture protection compare to a Gatorskin?
@@swanauto47 honestly about the same something that would get through the 4S would probably get through the gator.
How does it ride compared to other bikes?
Is this a more upright bike than the specialized diverge base?
You’re talking the aluminum E5? For that, the Checkmate is actually 3mm more upright more or less because of the top tube length. Based on the size 54 comparison. There are a few more things with the geometry that go into it but that is the main aspect I focus on. It can’t be changed like saddle height
@@swanauto47 indeed and thanks for responding- I have the diverge in 52 and was wondering if this is equally upright to if it’s more aggressive as I have a back condition
I wish he would talk more about the tyres and less about drones and nube!
Awful audio on this one. Can use bike insights website to visually compare geo. The gen 3 Checkpoint has a shorter top tube and shorter stem for a more upright position. The Checkmate geo is almost identical to the Specialized Crux. The biggest improvement I see with the Checkpoint and Checkmate is the UDH. Kind of dumb to buy a bike that does not have UDH at this point.
Just checking if I’m reading the comparison website right - the checkpoint is more upright than a specialized diverge?
@@vbnxt Yes it appears the stack on the Diverge is +9mm taller than the new Checkpoint in the 56mm size frames.
gen 7 slr > anything. also fun fact they raced the hi mod and not the lab 71 even tho it had lab71 paint jobs last yr
Let's copy Dylan Johnson ;)
How do you tilt the seat?
It should just from loosening the bolt
When i removed my saddle from the post, the hard plastic circular thing that holds the saddle wont move or budge. And theres no screw on the post itself to loosen😅😅@swanauto47
@@ShaheenSaffy do you want it tilted down slightly?
@@ShaheenSaffy same! mine is literally tilted down. did you fix yours? :)
Dude, how often are you high?
That was hands down the worst unboxing I’ve ever seen. Use 2 hands. lol.
Fabulous color.
I have a 2013 model, bought 6yrs ago. Over ther years ive upgraded bits as theyve worn out ot broke . . . Changed the bars to 40cm. stem to 90mm, carbon seatpost and saddle, DT Swiss rims, Vittoria Rubino G2 tires, latex tubes, and 11speed 105 groupset with SPD-SL pedals. It regularly beats many much newer and higher spec bikes it's still super comfortable, and rolls beautifully.
Can’t wait to order mine!
If you are in the United States I know a great dealership that can send it directly to you!
I think the rim brake Pinarello Dogma F should be available forever and ever. Never to be discontinued. They can keep releasing new Dogmas but please don’t discontinue the rim brake Dogma F 🙏
Russia. Krasnodar. Hello to you from the southern capital. The bike is gorgeous, unusual coloring of the frame. I don't know why, but you tube your vidos appeared in my feed, because for a very long time I haven't watched or searched for anything on you tube on bicycle topics. 😉 How much does such a machine cost in your currency)?
prototype in Italy Pinarello factory mass production Still made in China and Taiwan there is no such thing as an "authentic" frame anymore rather pay for an OME frame than buy from a distributor that you are paying 3x or even 4x times higher and still produces from the same factory
Very valid
The frames are made in Taiwan but painted in Italy.
Thank you!
No, they're made in China and Indonesia. Finished in Taiwan. Then painted in Italy.
It’s 100& made in China, not sure what role does Taiwan do in this process, maybe QC or final touch or simply transfer / packaging for taxation purposes?
@@jaysong2890 correct. And I am pretty sure this is just for the Dogma. I'd imagine the lesser models are totally done in China and Thailand.
Bought it as frame only. Nice "Made in Italy" sticker outside, Chinese QC stickers inside ;)
23's, yikes!
Dry Lube is your friend.
If you think riding dirt roads is some kind of special occasion that only occurs once or twice a year then you're not really qualified to be speaking on this subject. I have lived all up and down the East Coast, generally in places with good proximity to public land like Northern New England, Upstate NY, and the Southern Appalachians. Poorly maintained dirt roads are the RULE in these areas. A road bike will get you inured very easily. Vermont is the best example of this, so it's funny you mentioned it. You're not going anywhere in Vermont on slick road tires unless you're right in Burlington.
I've been riding on Sora for about 5-6 years. I've tried a few different chains (Sram, Shimano, KMC) and cassettes as well. Now I'm using KMC X9 chains which is the best option regarding the price, how it works and the way it is linked. Moreover, I've mounted Shimano Deore XT 9s cassette and now the whole drive works perfectly fine.
45mm treaded tires, rigid fork. That's the ideal all-purpose set up for a bike that's going to see a roughly equal measure of pavement and rough dirt roads with the occasional trail shortcut thrown in. Is that a "gravel bike"? I don't really care what you call it.
That's exactly what I'm looking for
Im still running Sora 8 speed in 2024. Like the campy style thumb levers better than the paddles on my ultegra.
Young man you come off as very credible and honest ! Keep making videos ! 🎉
Thanks for the video, can you list why you choose rim brakes over discs? Ive always had rim brakes, and if all of the pros have switched, why shouldnt we? (Once cost comes down)
For me it came down to the amount of stuff that can go wrong. I’ve had rim and disc brake bikes and without fail I’ve worked on at least one disc brake bike per day with some kind of warped rotor or contaminated rotor that squeals or tings and brakes horribly. I got contamination on one of my Ultegra rotors I had before and my Force rotors I had were pretty good but it recommends that the DOT fluid be bled once a year. That’s just extra stuff I have to do. Also if the hose is threaded into the lever wrong the entire lever is done in most cases and it could be a super pricey electronic one. I’ve had tons of good rides on both rim and disc brake bikes so they aren’t all good or all bad but less spokes in the front wheel for less drag, as well as not having service intervals on my brakes is what did it for me. Also they just look super clean a lot of the time and handle better since the front fork can have more freedom of shape and design.
