part of the problem is bikes cost a down payment for a mortgage. yes quality demands the price and technology has advanced but bikes have slipped beyond that affordable line in the sand.
Domaine SL 5 is a bit over $5k AUD in Australia for a bottom tier carbon 105 mech bike with cheap home brand wheels. Pre-covid that was $3.5k or less on sale. Why would anyone with a 5 or 10 year old bike want to upgrade?
I emailed the nearest Trek store about a certain bike's availability 3 times, and never heard back. Now, I get junk email from Trek in my inbox almost every day...
Had my 2012 Stumpy until I couldn't get proprietary parts anymore in 2020. Got a Carbon Remedy and love it. Wish I had bought a Knolly, maybe in another few years. We don't need the latest greatest for trails. We aren't pros. Most of the problems with modern bikes are the lack of participation by the rider. A new bike is only good if you ride it.
I think the bike industry is kind of missing the mark on what bikes to make, and is facing the repercussions of over-ordering on their Covid boom. If we want more people to ride for everyday occasions, we don’t need carbon bikes, we need tools of utility, bikes that can either carry a load (cargo bikes) or help make cycling more accessible (e-bikes) and most importantly, the combo of the two. Some American companies are finally catching up to this, but this sector has been dominated by European and Asian brands.
Another problem is all bike companies are stuck with UCI rules of what a bicycle should be . I ride a recumbent touring bike and there are not mass mfg's putting them out. So i have speed and comfort with nothing having any pain at the end of the day any day any mileage. Visibility is wonderful as I do not have to hold my head up to see. No problem being seen either.
I feel sorry for the workers of Trek, but for Trek as a brand I will never buy another Trek bike for what they did to Greg LeMond. They ruined his reputation and ruined him finacially for speaking the truth about doping in the peloton and Lance’s cheating.
What really bothers me about Trek is the way their leadership is set up. They talk a big game about inclusivity and caring for their workers. But when bad stuff actually happens in their work places and some are negatively affected it’s just an inconvenience for them to ignore because they have to make more money. I love their bikes and always will but they need to do better for those that literally carry them
Everyone was doping it's just that Lance was a cut above and all the attention was on him. I think professional road cycling was more interesting to watch back then. Watching all the doped up/roided guys with no helmets climbing the mountains was a sight to behold
They were all on dope Lance was just a scapegoat. With that being said he was a total douche about it for slandering others that told the truth. He got what he had coming.
may be this just a trick. after got enough revenue, and they know the industry now in down trend. why not declare bankruptcy no tax, no need pay their part supplier. lose capital but i believe they already got million revenue surpassing their cost.
Maybe they could try making regular bikes for regular people, at regular prices...Most people don't give a rip about overpriced high-end bikes made overseas😎
I've heard a lot of dumb stuff on youtube but I've never heard something as dumb as somebody pronouncing the trek domane as trek "doh-many". Its pronounced "domain" bruh...

You wouldn’t
I agree with the Trek store being a Wal-Mart for bikes. The staff and store management is a constant revolving door.
That’s part of the issue, I miss when bike shops had ppl who would just OD on bikes. It doesn’t feel that way as much anymore

Well deserved for sponsing Doper-Lance after he confessed.

There was no insight or value to this. The drone shots were nice though
Thanks
Hell yes they have it coming! I hope they go down hard. I will never buy another trek/bontrager product as long as I live.
Capitalism infinite growth myth..
Late stage capitalism
