Lighting Cat Canyon Tutorial - Cinema 4D Redshift

Best tutorial I have watched for a while! Thanks mate!!
Hi! Try increasing the “Steps per Frame” in the Expert tab of the Dynamics Tab in the Project Settings. Thats should be fix the problem of particle falling trhough the plane.
THANK YOU
THANK YOU!!!!
Nigel has got the sauce.
Looks like the .AI version you export doesn't matter anymore.
Thanks a lot!
i can't get it to work in node materials. can you tell me how to do it? because the output is black
How do you isolate specific areas? Like paths and areas not grass
My man, that outro! Holy shit hahaha
Super helpful! Thanks Matt :D
how would I use a image texture to drive the pattern?
Hey Matt, I can't be certain to the benefits of those extra nodes, but part of the issue here is using the random effector to drive color variation, since it uses negative values (-100% to 100%) so anything below zero will be clipped to black. This is why you're seeing so much of the blue/green of the ramp at 1:25. Instead, you could (a) use the random effector to drive the randomness in PSR and use a separate effector (or field) to only drive color values from 0-100%. Or (b) you could use two ramp nodes between the Color User Data and the Material - the first ramp being black and white, while the second being your desired color values. Then you can use the first ramp to adjust and remap the colors in the second ramp to get the desired distribution. The multiply node example only works if you have a good distribution of colors to begin with, which is why the GeometryID (instead of RSMGColor) seems to work. But the GeometryID node isn't reliable and often produces different results between the RS RenderView and C4D Picture Viewer. If the color distribution is poor to begin with, the multiply node would only move the values up and down the ramp, producing only reds/yellows etc.
Or : Color User Data > Default Ramp > Change Range > Color correct/hue. Changing the value of the New Range Max on the Change range can specify the amount of hue shift. The color correct would be in between the diffuse color and material. Seems to work with saturation level to. Just a thought.
Wouldn't checking "render instances" in the emitter have increased the speed a lot? And regarding scattering on the displaced surfaces, just use the displacement modifier instead of doing it at render time 😊
This is great, very useful. How do you know all this stuff!
Thanks for this Matt. When would you recommend using Atlas (never heard of them until some of your tutorials) vs a full 3D model? I used an Atlas for the moss on log (from the Baby Yoda video) but its pretty time consuming
Thanks for this tutorial man. I'm struggling a lot with the export of materials from Quixel Bridge to redshift, I'm always getting a error. Any idea how to fix this?
Me too. Looks like it’s an issue with latest redshift or c4d. Had to revert to manual
Great tutorial....cheers!
Thanks
That whole quixel bridge asset library is subscription based $$, right?
With a Free Epic Games subscription you have access to the entire Quixel library. From there you can use Bridge to export assets to a bunch of different DCCs. My understanding is, legally, any asset you use from the library is supposed to end up back in Unreal Engine. That is unless you pay for the library.
@@CautiousPossum with the free set up you're supposed to use it only with unreal, but you're saying I can export to C4D with quixel bridge anyway?
@@andershattne Yes. As long as your intention is to use the asset in Unreal for the finished product you can export from Bridge to a number of different packages.
@@CautiousPossum thanks a lot! I've been way behind with the unreal world!
thank you bro !
It's the best I've seen. Thank you very much for sharing
Thanks!
Can RS matrix work with dynamics? Rigid body/collision?
Good question - In theory it should, give it a go. I'm away from my workstation at the moment so can't test it unfortunately.
@@CautiousPossum I tried and it did not work. :(( Or I'm doing it wrong. Let me know if you managed to add dynamics to the scatter instances. TY!
@lanzsantos_ use a cloner if u need dynamics. Matrix is only transform data, I don't think it considers objects. Rs object tab is referring to the objects not the matrix. Cheers.
Brilliant work! You have a new subscriber. Any way you can share the FBX with us? :)
Hey thanks Dennis. I'm hesitant to share a modified version of something I didn't create. Reach out to @Steakosaurus (link in the description). If he doesn't mind I'll share it with you. Cheers

@@CautiousPossum You are can share link with file “atlas moss” in c4d?

Thanks for this. 🙏You can also use the command "Polygon Groups to Objects" in C4D to split out all pieces in one go - instead of U-P.
Awesome thanks for the tip!

Hey, great tutorial man! I have an animation of a lot of flowers growing and with this method the color of every object changes every single frame. Do you know how to solve this?
