Inside Winnipeg Politics - With a Prorogued Parliament, Should MPs Face Layoffs?
The latest edition of Inside Winnipeg Politics brought together Winnipeg Sun columnists Geoff Currier, Royce Koop, and Kevin Klein to discuss the implications of Canada’s federal government proroguing Parliament. The panel analyzed how this pause impacts accountability, efficiency, and fairness in governance.
Kevin Klein argued that members of Parliament should face conditions similar to those of private-sector employees during prorogation. He suggested that if Parliament is not sitting, MPs should not receive pay and maybe be laid off, drawing attention to the disparity between political operations and private-sector realities. His viewpoint aimed to highlight elected officials' financial and ethical responsibility during legislative inactivity.
Royce Koop raised concerns about the broader consequences of prorogation. He noted that when Parliament is prorogued, government accountability is diminished, as no legislative body is in session to scrutinize decisions. This lack of oversight, he argued, creates a potential vacuum in transparency and leaves Canadians without a crucial mechanism for holding leaders accountable.
Geoff Currier focused on clarifying prorogation and its functional implications. He explained that while it pauses the legislative agenda, other branches of government continue to operate. Currier emphasized that the real issue is how this pause is used and whether it serves the public interest rather than simply being a procedural break.
The discussion showcases a range of perspectives on how prorogation affects governance. Klein’s focus on fiscal responsibility contrasted with Koop’s emphasis on the need for accountability and oversight, while Currier’s insights provided a clearer understanding of the procedural elements at play. The panel’s analysis reflected the complexities of managing a political system during a pause in legislative activity.

Inside Winnipeg Politics: Time For Term Limits for Canadian Politicians

Canada’s political system does not impose term limits on its elected officials. Politicians can serve indefinitely, provided they continue to win the support of their constituents. Nations such as Brazil, South Korea, and the Philippi...

Do you really think Wab Kinew is saving health care when 1000s of Punjabis were moved into Peg from Quebec/Ontario. Traitor Wab - but also those phone calls affected Winnipeg's health care.

THINK ABOUT THAT. so 600K per month, so the equivalent of the entire province goes through HSC every 2 months.. hahahah Grab a brain.. Direct from HSC website "The largest and busiest emergency departments (Adult and Children) in the province are at HSC, with 115,000+ visits per year and 330+ patients per day" Still very impressive numbers. about 15 people per hour. NOT EVEN CLOSE... no wonder nobody trusts politicians.

what the hell?! Conservative stating” healthcare has real costs” is the problem with our disastrous healthcare system, when it is a FACT Canadians have the most expensive healthcare system in the G20 with the lowest outcomes!!! THE PROBLEM IS NOT LACK OF MONEY!!!! First let’s start with the ongoing extortion of Marxist forced immunization that has only one objective and that is to extort as much taxpayer money for the least amount of work!! Second is that has infiltrated all levels of management on top of 40 years of DEI hires. Third is that even our doctors are Marx and all the doctors of a free and true healthcare system have long retired now. And lastly, our Dr nurses are no longer trained in actual real medicine even more so to the point of murder, being an objective offering rather than true healthcare. The entire culture of medicine from academia Frontline delivery service is immorally rotten.

Wab Kinew runs a racist government in favour of the Indigenous population. He spends millions fixing roads to distant reservations while highways to towns neighbouring Winnipeg are allowed to disintegrate to goat trails. He hires crews to build rest stops and clean garbage on highways that lead to reservations while the highway to the Prairie Green Landfill is buried in trash. This is a man who needs to realize that bandaids aren’t going to fix what ails Manitoba.

This is a new government where is all this criticism over the last government that’s been running this province for years and put it in the dumper. Once again, a new government comes in and has to clean up the mess of years of abuse from old governments. Equalization payments are given and you expect the Manitoba premier to go. Oh God no we don’t need this money. We couldn’t use it for healthcare or education or to help out the indigenous people in the rural areas or the rural areas in general. They’re supposed to be concerned that they’re getting this money to help them with this province and their deficits with regards to the abuse of the past government but OK let’s get on your bandwagon and slam dunk the new premier of Manitoba. The old premier was too busy living in the US to care about your province. This one cares too much and here we are screaming and yelling because he’s going to use these payments which are coming to them rightfully. You’re saying that the payment structure is flawed will then fix it.

Well maybe Manitoba can stop the discrimination negligences and torture injured workers especially severe permanent injuries don't have a chance. Then they deem and deduct more. I've been recommended L4 decompression in December 2004 the first time. Finally at 2006 appeal my L4 damages where considered assymptomatic???? Then years later I have an MRI at grace hospital same hospital that recomended decompression in 2004 says in 2017 large L4 hernjation compressing nerve root a new finding? I appealed L4 damages where from, workplace accident of 2002 in 2017. Same chief commissioner Alan Scramstad says denied MRI says a new finding. So I make a statement of disagreement with grace hospital not a new finding. I request reconsideration and the new Chief Appeal Commissioner Mrs Karen Dyck says I should have known through my own due diligences Denied. I then make a Human rights complaint and the Manitoba Legislative Assembly makes a new policy giving the executibe director the right to dismiss without investigation? Early dismissal already been fairly heard in another court of competent jurisdiction? Don't have jurisdiction Mr Jima says. So maybe These offices can stop the discrimination negligences and torture. Been recomended surgery twice yet deemed. Considered assymptomatic then a new finding! Sad,immoral and unjust! You would think inflicting cruel and unusual treatments punishments would be unacceptable in a free and democratic society? Guess that's another question. We are 32 from coast to coast trying to register a charter challenge. Come on man!
