IKON Pass Cypress Mountain Ski Resort Skiing
As one of the originals who worked on the construction of Big Sky, I am sickened by what they have done to the mountain. Bridger and Red Lodge are better places to ski!
I see the same thing happening at Schweitzer. I'm working at Lookout Mtn now and enjoy the vibe much more.
@@bluebirdski I guess it’s the way of things now. They try to make everything a destination resort and in the process they destroy the unique beauty of the place.

Excellent video! Loved the informative nature of it. When I ski Deer Valley, I’ll definitely look up Dunn for some coaching tips to improve my skiing on and off piste! Thank you - well done!
@@YouDecideIsItWorthIt Thanks, by the time we talk I'll be taking Tucker Carlson's job...ha.
Some good tips in there. I have found that the Deer Valley intermediate to advanced runs are great and there is something about them that does put them at the upper echelon of the ski industry. However, they are also competing with Aspen Snowmass and Beaver Creek, which in my opinion, they both surpass Deer Valley. I have personally found that Deer Valley is similar to a very manicured golf course, just with skiing. Nowhere else, have I ever seen condos or homes almost up to the top of the mountain, it is just very manufactured skiing. Nothing wrong with that, it just feels weird! Although those middle Daly chutes are no joke. Even you ranked Deer Valley as an overall score of 7.6, almost a full 2 points less than Snowmass. Although, I did rather enjoy the Veuve champagne yurt outside of the Montage Hotel last time I was there. I do disagree with Ski Dad about the widths of his ski choices for Deer Valley, IMO beginners should be on a ski width less than 75mm, everyday carving should be no more than 85mm and you don't need a powder ski at Deer Valley. I was there when it snowed 18 inches overnight and I was on my Stockli Stormrider 88's and they were more than enough ski for those conditions. I am thinking about getting a pair of Stockli Montero AX's (80mm) or even a pair of Stockli Laser SX's (70mm) as my next carving everyday ski for the western ski resorts. Anyway, great interview as always and hope you have an epic ski year.
@@robruf Thanks for your thoughts. I sometimes regret my rankings, but I think for what I enjoy they're correct. This place is a dream for well-to-do families. I enjoyed SkiDad's ski recommendations. He has me paying more attention to Blizzard. I seem to buy Rossignal's and I'm not sure why...ha. The ski I've fallen in love with for all mountain is the Black Crow Justice, but I need a good carver.
@@bluebirdski I really like your rankings, they are amongst the best out there. You say it like it is, please don't change that. Last time I went to Deer Valley, I went with a very well-to-do family, they stayed at the Stein Eriksen hotel and they loved it. My wife and I stayed in a condo in the Silver Lake area, however, I went there a couple of times for lunch and the spa and can really say it wasn't for me, but the location is fantastic. I like the Montage better, as you are higher up on the mountain, however, next time I think I will check out the St Regis or the new Four Seasons when it opens in next year! Blizzard have always made pretty good skis, if I had never skied on Stockli's, I would probably be on Blizzards.
Thanks for the opportunity Cody! I had a great time chatting with you.
It was fun. If you want to do a round two with the audio upgrade let me know when. Go Wallace!

Nice review. I didn't ski Buttermilk while at Aspen so it was interesting to see what I missed. Looks like it would be a good place to go for.half a day to knock it off a ski resort list and then hit up Highlands for the other half day. Looking forward to the Aspen Highlands review.
@@KZ-yu4jz Lot of the tree skiing was terrific. Great beginner resort. My Highlands footage is too foggy to really make a video... A good excuse to get back to Aspen someday soon.
Great review, one of the best Buttermilk reviews I have ever seen, love the analysis and the fair and impartial manner to your reviews, keep them coming! Hope Jackson Hole, Whistler/Blackcomb, Vail/Beaver Creek, Telluride, Lake Tahoe resorts and Taos are in the future
@@robruf Jackson Hole for sure. Getting all the Ikon pass resorts knocked out. Thanks!
Love Clark's for their happy hour! I kind of hate myself for liking Aspen as much as I do haha. Great review!
@@angelinaoutsideI get it. I'm just not sure if I'm big time enough to live it up in Aspen. It is legendary, but I'd much rather spend time in laid back ski towns.
That description of the oyster bar was amazing.
Thanks, I've snuck a couple edgy statements/jokes into a couple videos. I'm tempted to be a bit more of a wise ass. It happened the way I described. The women and bartender were actually great, but it truly was a bit strange.
Do the hotels have shuttle buses to the resorts? I would be visiting from the states and wondering what’s the best option. Rental car?

Great video as always, I felt you were a little rough on the town of Aspen, but to each their own. I think one has to spend a few trips to Aspen to get into the real swing of it. I am always discovering new places to eat, shop and have fun there. My 5th trip to Aspen is coming up this year and I will still find new nuggets. I will let you know how it goes! One place that is always a hit with me is the Ajax Tavern, food is always very solid and the staff are great. I like to include Snowmass in my rAspen eviews to make it the total complete package. As there is only 30 minutes between these 2 ski resorts. Cannot wait until your next review. I had a great time doing the podcast with you. Hope you and your family have a fantastic holiday season!!
@@robruf I totally agree with you. I think with the high prices and general vibe in town it just isn't my jam. Ketchum Idaho/Sun Valley is the apres ski spot I've rated a ten. I should give Aspen, the town, another chance. Any suggestions besides Ajax Tavern? We didn't want to wait for a spot there and my girlfriend got a bad vibe.
@@bluebirdski I do agree with you about Clark's Oyster bar in your video, not my fav in town either. However, there are a bunch that I like, J-Bar at Hotel Jerome, Kenichi is now in both Aspen and Snowmass, pretty good sushi at affordablish prices, Catch Steak has a great bar, Madame Ushi is a pretty cool place for Japanese food, Monarch for caesar salad and steaks, W hotel bar is pretty good, St Regis bar is solid, also a few new places just opened that I am going to try this year, Jimoto, it features ramen, soup dumplings plus poke bowls, then there is Sway, a Thai restaurant, that is supposed to have a cool interior, Silverpeak Grill, burgers, tacos, fries and salads. Then there a few Mexican places, Las Montanas, Taco Pina, and Mi Chola. Then there are a bunch of speakeasy's type bars to try out, Sterling, Gin & Luck, Bad Harriett. Plus French Alpine Bistro, White House Tavern, CP Burger, Meat and Cheese for an easier hit to the wallet. I do find that making a reservation ahead of time in Aspen has helped me tremendously with getting in anywhere. I also find that once you get into a pretty good establishment such as Ajax Tavern, they have your name in there forever. Quick story, last time I went there, I didn't have a reservation for lunch, they just looked up my name and within 5 minutes I had a great table,, same with a few other establishments in town. My wife will never ski at Ajax, she loves Snowmass so much, think you agree, as it is tied with Sun Valley on your rating, so that is where we ski, but we generally go into Aspen I would say out of a 5 night trip, about 3/4 times. We live in San Francisco and have lived in NYC, so we are used to the prices and the types of personalities that frequent Aspen. Next time you are going to go, let me know and I will give you all of my insider info.
Great review.
Thank you. Uploading one on Aspen Ajax tonight!

Checking out Aspen Snowmass in a few weeks. Thanks for the info.
@@KZ-yu4jz You're welcome. So many great places to visit. Woody's bar and staying in Basalt really was the hookup. I wish I'd eaten at Sam's on the mountains... Heard good things. Hope to get a video out on Ajax soon.
@@bluebirdski Sam's is really good, but so are The Alpin Room and The Cabin, You might look at the prices and say robruf go and f*** yourself. However, I had a friend who thought this way and he wanted to go on the cheap, so he went to Elk Camp Restaurant and he ended up spending just about the same amount as our sit down lunch. So , guess what happened the rest of the trip, he joined us for sit down lunches at The Alpin Room and The Cabin.
@@bluebirdski You should check out Sam's,, The Alpin Room, and The Cabin. They are all pretty decent, Sam's is pretty good, I have eaten there twice now, the views are excellent. They are all sit down restaurants, they are on the pricier side when you look at the menu at first. However, when you go to a sit down place such as Elk Camp and see the prices they charge, it all adds up to about the same amount. Would you rather be in a nicely decorated sit down restaurant with proper silverware and plates that also has a low noise level or would you rather be with a bunch of kids screaming and yelling about everything. I know which one I will chose all the time!
Do we need to purchase the lifts or can we just ski with getting it?
@@lamismomin9115 If you have an Ikon pass it is included. If not, you'll pay over $200.
Aspen Snowmass is one of my favorite ski resorts also. my wife and I have a spreadsheet of every ski resort that we have visited. We rank Aspen first, followed by Beaver Creek, Telluride, Jackson Hole and Whistler/Blackcomb. It is a great all rounder and combining it with Aspen Highlands and Ajax, makes it everything you need in a ski vacation. You should try Lynn Britt Cabin (now just The Cabin) next time you are there, best food on the mountain and one can also have a nice little apres-ski there. Aspen Snowmass has the amongst the best ski in-ski out accommodations anywhere in the US or Canada. Also, the best dining, shopping, art scene and the scenery might be number two or three, just behind Jackson Hole and Banff Lake Louise. Plus we love that you don't need a car there, just get picked up from the hotel or condo and they provide round trip airport transfers. The township provides an excellent free bus service to all 4 mountains and then around Snowmass and Aspen. I have taken it from Snowmass to Highlands and to Ajax, on many different occasions. Is it expensive?, sure it is. But not much more than other resorts and you get a lot more for your money in Aspen. I have spent more money in Lake Tahoe on accommodations with much worse customer service and attitudes from the staff. It is top of the heap for a reason, also they create a wonderful atmosphere on the mountain and in the village and town. Like your videos a lot, they are very informative and don't ramble on with nonsense, unlike many other channels. Keep them coming.
I'd love to see your spreadsheet and thanks! I suggest Banff to a lot of people who love Utah and Colorado. Last year was my first time skiing in Colorado, and I fell in love with the sun and altitude. So far, Copper is my highest rated. I personally am partial to Sun Valley. Thanks again!

Stumbled across your post, planning to hit red in late January. Actually canceled a Jax trip (have been many times) to try something new, Red. Your review of both the mtn and the surrounding area was exceptionally helpful. Really appreciated. Bummer about the low speed chairs but like most resorts that will change over time. Great review.

I have watched a few of your reviews, and you have very good information in them. I do have one recommendation on how to improve them, though: perhaps consider cropping the frame of your in-studio segments to avoid showing your hands. You have a habit of talking with your hands (just about every word!) which becomes quite distracting to the viewer. It reaches the point where the viewer ends up just watching your arms and hands moving all the time instead of paying attention to what you’re saying. I think this might lead to a better experience for the viewer, and ultimately more likes and subscribers to your channel. Keep up the good work and thanks for providing this valuable information to those of us who love to ski.
