How to Deal with Anxiety
Переглядів 3092 роки тому
What if we started to treat anxiety as a physical condition instead of a mental one? This is the subject of a brand new 4-week online course called Anxiety Unloaded, that I'm proud to launch on behalf of my good friend and podcast collaborator, Malcolm Nicholls. He has over 15 years' experience as a bodyworker specialising in Hellerwork therapy, and we've distilled everything you need to know a...
OVERCOMING MY AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE & THE WIM HOF METHOD

I'll explain the work I did before I discovered the WHM, and then come to the method itself. At the end of the video, if you still want to know more, or h...

THE PROBLEM OF BECOMING TOO SELF-AWARE
Переглядів 9 тис.4 роки тому
Awareness is one of the important things we can have. But if we’re not careful, it comes at a price. When we are more focused on our stuff, our behaviours and why we are that way, we give the power to our identity. We stop creating. We stop taking risks. Part of self-awareness is knowing WHEN it’s more useful to analyze the WHY’s vs. when it’s more useful to stop analyzing and let it be. Also, to be aware of the limits of human understanding, knowing that you can’t know everything. I’ve noticed that most of the time, when someone feels like they are too self-aware because they can’t stop being analytical, that means that the intellectual brain has become too active relative to the emotional and primal brains, and that you would need to become more *aware* of the primal & emotional brain’s role to strike the right balance. Many people belive that the intellectual brain is “superior” because it’s more “evolved,” and the other two should be pushed aside, but then you’d end up over-analizing and forgetting how to BE. A big part of my journey is respecting the primal drive 😉 So the problem is not too much self-awareness, it is being unbalanced and indecisive about how to apply that knowledge that you have of yourself. 💡

Thank you very much for this video because this has been my problem since I was a kid.... I was so self-aware to too many things and as a child my little brain couldn't comprehend all of the information I've gathered at the same time... I was always restless. It was like watching myself doing things while knowing I'm watching myself do things by watching myself watch myself XD.... It was very complicated and confusing at that time. But as I got older I started to learn more and why I was like that and began to accept that there are many things I don't know or haven't learn at the same time and that's ok... Life is mysterious in many ways and that's just how it is... And thanks to this video, it's good to know that I'm not the only one... Do you have lifetime access to lessons on course ? I have cfs and have to do stuff in manageable chunks.

Yes sir, absolutely. We break the course down into 4 staggered weeks, but there's zero time pressure (that would defeat the object of treating anxiety). Lifetime access for sure.

Thank you so much for this. I struggle with massive anxiety and self awareness and being hyper alert is my biggest issue. It's like watching every single thought and emotion, as well as putting expectations on how I SHOULD feel or think in certain situations.

You're so welcome. Have you tried any kind of calming breathing techniques? Not a complete cure, but really helps anxiety. A friend also has a course on treating anxiety as a physical condition coming out very soon, stay tuned to find out more.

@@richrealign Okay can't wait ! Im constantly doing some breathing techniques but even when my body is completely calm im still in a bad space mentally. The best way I found to go against this is to provoke my weird thoughts and argue against them rationally.

This is such a good video, just too much self awareness and I keep asking myself, wtf and why tf did I do that? Why did I think that, what's behind that thought? And then more questions pop up. Just proving that too much of anything is bad, even if it's good.

Dunno i have this thing that i overthink stuff like people's tone in talking and facial expressions when they talk to me. (Not all the time tho...) And i think i am pretty aware of like... Myself? I know why i yell and get angry, or why i do certain actions and if they are right or not. Like, ido something, i know why i do it and what im doing, and i know it might be wrong, but i still do it. Often i think that "i deserve" to do certain things that could be considered bad, because i have behaved so well all my life. Im like... Very aware of why i do things and... Yeah?

Excellent video, man! Much appreciated. I try to overcome psoriasis w/ arthtritis and recently stumbled upon the Wim Hof Method. Am trying to incorporate it into my daily routine. I did not understand whether you tried the FODMAP-Diet or not and wether it has helped you? Cheers

    • @richrealign

Thanks Matthias! All the best with using the method against your conditions. It's probably worth heading to the WHM Facebook group and seeking others who have tried to do the same and see what support you can find there. In answer to your question, by the time the FODMAP diet had come along, I was all good so I don't have any experience with it. BUT in looking at it and talking to others that have tried it, I'd highly recommend giving it a go in relation to gut-related issues and inflammation. Beyond that, I don't know much sorry.
