It’s YOUR Knife, what you do with it is YOUR Business!!! If they think it should be used they should go out and pay for one themselves! And in the meantime Mind their Own Business!
lovely knives mate quality
Thank you very much, I love making them😊😊
does cactus juice remain liquid and can it be reused without turning solid?
Yes, it's a liquid that remains so until it's baked at around 90 degrees Celsius, then it turns solid. As long as you keep the liquid in the chamber cool, you can use it over and over again.
I just stropped my Brumby, poured a cup of coffee, and booted up UA-cam. And poof...a new video from Alasdair! Good to see you again! Those are some very handsome knives. Keep that overcooked recipe for the Sheoak. It looks fantastic!! So does that burled wood at the end of this video. That last blade is a monster. I'm still carrying my Brumby every day. FOR ME, it is the perfect size for everyday tasks. Small enough to trim melons of the vine without cutting anything else. Large enough to whittle a tent stake out of redwood to hold up a temporary fence to keep my border collies out of the garden when they chase squirrels. And not a mark on the blade or handle yet. I can say that your jymping is very grippy without being a meat grinder on your thumb. Kind of the Goldilocks "it's just right" jymping, IMO. I have a link for solid brass D-rings with a threaded axle that can be added to existing sheaths, if you are interested. Shoot me an email if you want it. Thanks for the shoutout in this video😉. If fixed blades are illegal to carry on a belt, how do you carry your own knives??? Stay safe, Alasdair!
Cheers Brad, glad your Brumby is going well! Yeah, the 'roasted' Sheoke does look good eh! I'll have to look into your D rings, sounds good. As for knife carrying here in Oz, its ok to have one on your belt if you're camping, fishing or out in the bush, just cant go strolling around the town with it on, crazy, but thats the law. cheers alasdair.
Lovely knives - especially covetous of the bushwood, Daves a lucky man.
Thank you ! It's all about attention to detail when building a knife, nice rounded handle is functional and feels good 🙂cheers Alasdair.
You are a VERY Lucky man to have a wife who would buy you a knife like that!!
She's the best !! I'm very lucky to own it 🙂🙂
Looks very much like the BPS bushcraft knife by DBK, except the BPS is 1/10th the price and is just as good, if not better.
Did you test both knives ? or are you just guessing. I have a beautiful custom forged blade $500 3/4" stock. Is it better or not then Ray Mears blade, doesn't really matter. If a person has the money to buy the blade, buy it ! but saying a knife that is 1/10th the cost is just as good??? Then there would be a lot of people out of work in the Knife making industry.
@@daveexplore3856 There are destruction tests of the BPS knife, it is indeed VERY tough and on par with the best of them. As for being 1/10th the price, that's a bonus and most definitely THE smart buy between the two. Sure, folks are free to buy a Rolls-Royce Phantom and claim that it's so much better than a Mercedes, but at the end of the day it's just a rebadged BMW at 10x the cost. In essence, same German hit & miss quality. Functionality & price > status symbols
Love it❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Ella!🔪🔪🔪
Great video Alasdair! Nice looking knives. HOWEVER...the best looking Campania knife is currently hanging on my belt!! That Sheoak is great looking. I've seen it on other knives and it looks fantastic. Strange seeing you in long sleeves. Today, It's predicted to be 105F (40.5C) here with a "feels like" of 112F (44.4C) or above! This internet thing makes a person forget they are viewing half way around the world, and that it's winter in Australia!! You stay warm, and I'll stay cool😄
Hey Brad! Glad you like your Brumby! Yep the Sheoak is a fantastic wood one of my favourites! Temperatures here a a bit lower than what they normally are, I'm just getting old and feeling the cold more nowadays! Enjoy your sunny, warm, weather 😎😎
Belters mate! Nice thinking with the up cycling COVID tests👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Thanks as always Alan. Hope all is well!
I think Ray Mears should be buying your knives. They are much nicer.
Hey James, wow, that's a huge compliment, thank you very much🙂🙂
Good idea. All you have to do is think outside the box
Hahaha yes! I do try, it doesn't always work out!
Well Done, Alasdair!!
Cheers Brad🙂
Nice bit of "Heath Robinson" thinking mate! Love it🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Haven't heard that term used in years, love it !! Cheers
Thanks for Sharing
Very interesting Alasdair, love learning new stuff from your videos mate👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎
Cheers Alan, glad it was of interest. As you can see, its a very time consuming process, but I enjoy it !!
I had no idea micarta is Bakelite. Live and learn!
Funny hey, Bakerlite prob didn't sound cool enough!
Alasdair....you don't need to "make it interesting." The process is already interesting to those of us watching. Either because we are trying to learn how to do it, or because we can't do it. It's like watching the plumber, the electrician, or the appliance repair tech when they are at your home! Seeing the process will make me appreciate my upcoming Brumby even more!! THANKS for this video Alasdair!
Cheers Brad, I get exactly what you mean, its always fascinating watching another trade at work ! Your Brumby is coming on nicely, not long now!!

Thank Alan Wood and Ray Mears for that, fantastic design.
Very good explanation, thank you. I've been thinking about why this has been happening to my knives. And I think yesterday. I finally figured it out, but your explanation helps solidify my thought.
Yeah it took me a while to work out why I was getting a different plunge line on one side of my knife to the other! Glad it helped!
I don't know how I missed this video when it was released. Very nice look at the knives in your repertoire! I like that Siamese Rosewood and the new shape to the Brumby handle. THANKS Alasdair!
People are buying your knifes because there very good that tracker I got from you is faultless £200 for a aebl blade custom I'm sure you will do a lot more business in the UK 😊
Thanks Martin, hope it is still serving you well !! I'd love more of my creations to head to the UK, cheers Alasdair 🙂🙂
No need to explain any delays in videos, Alasdair. Life happens. I hope your wife has a speedy recovery. Danny, Ian, and Tony wanted me to let you know that they have all moved to Kansas USA. You can ship their knives to me and I will get their knives to each of them.🤣 All of those knives are beautiful. That tapered tang was a really nice Loveless touch. You have some of the best looking scales of any knife maker I have seen on UA-cam. THANKS for this video. Looking forward to part 2 release.
Thanks, life is always challenging us eh! My wife is slowly on the mend, thankfully😊 I'd better work out a shipping price to the U.S then 😂😂 Thank you for the compliments, means a lot, cheers Alasdair
Always good to see a craftsman at work! Glad you recovered so well👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎
Cheers Alan, yes feeling great,, best I've felt in years!!
Yes I’m firing on all cylinders now!!! Feel great!! Yep they are Loveless bolts, they’re a cool touch to a knife. Yes, you have to have standards eh! Golf balls are great for handles, I’ve even got one on my drill press. Hope your project goes well, cheers for watching, Alasdair 🔪
The golf ball handles...do you just hammer them on, or do you drill and epoxy them on? Thanks Alasdair!!
On the files, just drill a hole and hammer the file in on the taper, the drill press, drill and epoxy👍
@@campaniaknives4668 THANKS Alasdair!! I can't begin to explain how much this is going to help my 70 y.o. arthritic hands hold those files!!!
You seem to have recovered nicely from your illness since the last video. The bolts at 17:55.....are those what are sometimes referred to as Loveless bolts? I am a retired dentist. Your philosophy at 25:00 is the same thought I had in my head every time I drilled into a tooth. "No one will see it, but I'll know." That's what makes a professional a professional! Good thing I don't have one of those gymping files. I'd be putting gymping on anything that will hold still. I like the golf ball handle on that file. I never thought of that. New project for the lawnmower blade hand file tomorrow!! Thanks for this video and this coming series!!
Just get yourself a BPS HK5. Made in Ukraine. A really good knife and probably more than half the price.
Good setup bud, always a work in progress (shed)😂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Cheers! It certainly is!! Could do with a bit more room, but you work with what you've got eh !
Thanks for the tip mate 👍
Cheers, glad it was useful🙂
@@campaniaknives4668 Out of curiosity, what grit of sandpaper are you using for this kind of flattening? I've been using 120 on a belt sander but kept getting edge wear like you describe
@@DarthMabon the sticky backed disc that I use on the plate is 60 grit.
Good to hear you're health is improving a bit mate! ATB🇬🇧👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎
Cheers Alan, yep going well, feel like I’m 21 again 😀😀
What a smack in the face for your wife. 'I'm not going to use it...' Bloody 'ell... What did she buy it for? What did Ray Mears MAKE it for?
Done good there. Thanks for the plug. Learning about steel as that’s my short coming
Cheers Colin, other way round for me, wood mine!
Great work, get well soon pal - love the knives ;)😊
Thanks a lot👍👍
Free advice: stay behind the camera
Cheers for your advice, but I think I'll carry on doing something I enjoy. Perhaps I can give you some, don't watch my videos 😜
"Not going to get used"?!? "...stay in the box"?!? A knife like that was designed and made to be used and enjoyed so USE IT and ENJOY IT!
Hey there, I get what you’re saying, but as I make knives, I’ve got a few that I use, so the Ray Mears masterpiece stays in the box for now, it’s just my choice, but you are right!! You never know, one day it may come out to play!! Cheers, Alasdair 🔪🔪
Interesting content. I never knew why wood for knife handles/scales is stabilized, so today I learned something. What model do you call that tip down knife on the wall behind you? It has a Loveless droppoint hunter look to it. I like it! I hope you mend quickly and can get back to doing the things you enjoy!! Happy 2024!
Hi there, stabilizing is a very interesting thing, it’s great turning unusable soft woods into great handle materials. That knife third in on right, tip down is my Bushwood curve back style of knife, it’s a great all rounder, comes in Scandi, Sabre and full flat grinds, checkout my web site, Campania knives👍Thanks for watching and have a great 2024 too, cheers Alasdair 🔪🔪

Yep, health is everything, sometimes gets forgotten with our busy lives, hope your wife gets it fixed soon, it’s a miserable thing to have🫤 Cheers, have a good one, Alasdair 🔪
@@campaniaknives4668 will tell wife Alasdair, thank you!
Good to see you back, all the best with the healing of your giant wound! Cool content, many thanks! I always wondered how stabilising works in practice.
Thank you!! Good to get back to it, stabilizing as you can see is pretty simple, but requires patience!! Thanks for watching, Alasdair 🔪🔪
FINALLY. I KNOW HOW TO GET IT FLAT
Happy to have helped!!! Simple but effective!
I think the steel that is used on this knife is incredibly poor for the price you pay for the knife, steel has came a long way since o1, I’d be much happier with cpm magnacut, cru wear or even cpm 3v
You are probably right that there is better steels out there, O1 is just a traditional steel that Bushcrafters like, plus you get that cool patina build up over time, something that stainless cant match. I just love it for what it is, a classic designed Bushcraft knife.🙂🙂
Good to see you back and well
Its good to be back !!!
I enjoyed this video. Glad your recovery is moving along. My mother had that surgery 15-20 years ago. She's 95 now! She recovered well and no longer needs to watch what she eats. I like that shorter Bushwood Curveback, and a full flat grind sounds nice! You are the second Australian channel I watch. I also enjoy Pete's videos at Cedric and Ada Gear. You and Pete are the closest I will ever be able to get to Australia (I'm in the USA). Thanks for making these videos and sharing your Australian life!
wow 95!! If i can get to that I'll be a happy man! Watching what you eat definitely sucks! Yeah I'm liking the shorter blade too. Thanks for watching.
All the best from Blighty mate🇬🇧👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌😎
Cheers, same to you from OZ 🦘🦘🦘🙂
Good to see you up and about Alasdair.
Thank you, its good to be back to what I love doing!!
I stumbled onto your Ray Mears Part 1 by accident. I have no idea who Ray Mears is, but that is a really nice looking knife. Fabulous gift from your wife!! It's great that that is a grail knife for you, but frankly, I think your knives are just as nice. Your designs are quite handsome. I'm glad I found your channel. SUBSCRIBED
Hi there, thank you very much for the compliment and for subscribing! Much appreciated! Check out some of Ray Mears UA-cam and TV shows, very interesting!
Having received my Brumby knife today, I can wholeheartedly say that I stand behind my above post. This knife is handsome, and the sharpest knife I have ever purchased. I just tested it on my scalp side by side with my straight razor. I can't feel any difference in the closeness of the dry-shave. Alasdair's attention to detail is spectacular!! I have absolutely no regrets, nor buyer's remorse about this purchase!! THANK YOU, ALASDAIR!!!
If you ever find yourself in the west sussex area give us a call and arrange to come by and see the woodlores being made.
Thanks very much! I have family in Surrey so next time I am over in the UK I will definitely be in touch! Love your work, would be great to see your workshop!
Thanks for the vid... do you think this will translate over to sword or longer blade
Yes definitely, you'd just have to work a lot harder because if the extra size of the blade. Just make sure you do nice strong pulls the length if the blade.
Good luck for the surgery fella!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Cheers, hopefully I'm not out of action for too long!!
Very nice work, I enjoy listening to you
