THX Glass and Water Surround Sound Sample in 1080p
This is a great THX Surround Sound Sample that I have enjoyed over the past years to help people get a feel for what my surround system can do. I will collect more and post them here over time.
Now to be honest, it is only 5.1 because of UA-cam limitations.

I purchased this Disney Tarzan DVD at a thrift store that had never been opened after 24 years. I thought it would be fun to open it on video so in the future when we tell our grandkids about our old technology and DVDs we could show them what it was like to buy a $25 DVD and add it to our movie collection. Back in my day... we were all worried about Y2K

What the hell happened to the Ultra Sterero? Anyone?
I have this to this day 😢
Now that really big, bright TVs are becoming more accessible, is the dedicated space so necessary anymore? I feel like you can have a great home theater experience now with a big TV in the living room instead of a projector in the basement. And I don't just mean the gigantic models over 100". There are plenty of great TVs in the 65" to 85" range. Not needing a dedicated, blacked-out space can save you a lot of money. Maybe the MOST money. Not everyone has a basement or a room they can dedicate solely to home theater duties.
I just picked up a nexigo pj40 gen 3 and set it up with 2 party box speakers I had already and it’s amazing! Now I’m just trying to build a cheap screen and figure out a good budget 7.1 system and I’ll be set for a fraction of the cost of a regular home theatre system
You can pick-up a great 7.1 system on shopgoodwill.com if you are in the US, eBay, will work too but Facebook marketplace is awesome to find deals on used systems CHEAP! Thanks for the comment!
I actually love your channel, you are one of the few people video-graphing budget set ups. I have spoken to a couple of the guys with high end channels…Youthman, Build Montage. They are nice guys, but basically featured one budget theater apiece then stopped. Companies wont sponsor their entry level or budget minded equipment, only the high end. They are doing their channels for profit…. So yet again another million dollar star wars theater…. No one can really afford is sponsored. At least not the vast majority. I know people with three million net worth, that cannot afford to tie up their cash in some of their featured theaters, and are happy with and epson 5050, even though they could afford more. People who have earned their money seldom waste money. Trust fund people … ehhhh. Lol thanks though, you are appreciated.
Thanks so much, you get it, hoping to put out more great content soon!
i want to be able to listen to my music by genres, like 80s 90s or trance. my mp3s are tagged as such. but plex doesnt show all of them... any idea why
You need to try using a renaming tool such as MP3tag to edit the meta data of the files, it is easy to use and will help tags to show up that you are looking for. Here is a link www.mp3tag.de/en/
Good afternoon I'm currently testing with DIGI, and today I tried to set up PlexServer for remote access, but I couldn't get it to work. I followed the same process as with the NOS router, adding port forwarding for 32400, which works fine there. I'm using the Zyxel EX3301-T0 router from Digi for testing. Has anyone had a similar issue? Thanks!
Hope someone else has run across the same issue and can help, best of luck!
Love watching budget friendly projects. You did a great job. For those hating on the seats, i love nice recliners too but where will all the friends and family sit. I guess it depends on your needs. You are right about the picture. 1080p, 4k, 8k all the different contrasts and refresh rates/frame rates. Sure there's a difference but at the end of the day the picture just needs to be good because sound stimulates the brain much more and is what really pulls you into a film and can take you to a different place. Now on that note as an audiophile and someone who worked in the industry for a good part of my younger years i would only recommend that you try to stay with one speaker brand for all your speakers and subwoofers as they are usually designed to put out similar pitch and by mixing you will hurt that sound accuracy and overall experience. Some examples of this is def techs will usually be base heavy, Bose have highs and lows but usually lack with mid range, Martin Logan are very detailed and their towers offer faster sound response then any other mid driver and tweeters on market. I know you didn't ask for my advice but i hope it helps. Otherwise, amazing job on your project. Keep up the good work
Hey, I like to see everyone share what they know here, I am not the expert, maybe just one step ahead of some. I have learned a lot from everyone's comments and that helps my theater experience get better and better all the time, Thanks
found filebot usefull when naming everything especially with tv shows but note it moves the video files to a folder named media
Thanks for the tip...
I got a lot of dvd movies, all legal, but one of them is a dual layer dvd. That is the way it was produced and sold. The In-Laws 1979 and 2003, and my pc player just won't play the whole 1979 version without app hang and then stopping altogether. I read somewhere that I could just use a dvd maker to copy the movie to my computer's hard drive, but I would be breaking the law doing it. Even if it's just for my personal use. I am not going to do that, I'll will just have to accept the fact that the movie establishment ripped me off, and there's nothing I can reasonably do about it. The so-called little people get ripped off every day in all kinds of ways, but if they steal back a little or just make a copy of something....
The law should be changed to give movie lovers a legal way to backup and preserve their movie investment. Here's to holding out hope!
@@GTKTheater I've been calling it copyright tyranny or copyright censorship. Are you familiar with Watch It For Days on YT? This woman does amazingly good reviews of Columbo. She has complained about constant copyright interference.
how is this under 1500?the projector itself is already atleast 2k in my country.100 dollar can only get a bulb
Sorry you don't live in America, we are blessed!
This gives me hope! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Make sure if you are on a budget, to get a reflective screen. Not just a cheap white one. They aren't that much more expensive but they will give your more cheaper projector more contrast and brighter whites.
Very true... thanks for the comment
I have plex running but missed the part where you get the movies from? So do i buy the movies and use plex for them to be organised and usable from distance ?
Most Plex integrates with other streaming services and offers free movies but most users copy their DVDs and Blu-rays to have copies of their favorite movies.

Benq 3550 only $1200 for 4K definite upgrade from my 2050A which is a great 1080P projector.
I am sure it is, still a little much for me to justify just yet. Still loving my 1080 for now but some day... Thanks for the post and the suggestion on a budget 4K projector.
I have a Marantz SR 96 and a Marantz DP-870 processor. Can I use the SR-96 without the processor and get good sound? Or?
From what I understand, this is an older 5.1 AVR and it the two parts are needed to get the full 5.1 experience, you could try it but think you will need the DP-870 for this system to split up the channels fully. I could be wrong... Thanks for the question!
great video. Super helpful! I am thinking about building out my own HPZ620. Would you mind posting the specs you would recommend? Processor, RAM, Graphics (Unless this is negligible). Thanks.
You know, it doesn't take much, if this will be a dedicated PLEX server the graphics card doesn't matter. I would recommend 16gb of ram for any windows server but a little more wont hurt. The Processor in these will be enough regardless but the one thing that will matter is the speed of you drives. I would be sure the OS is running on an SSD the other drives can be regular 7200rpm drives but these system will also do SAS drives 2x fast so the performance will be better the faster the drive speed. Great question, Thanks!
Great explanation of fixing metadata. I have an unrelated question regarding Libraries. Are the names on the left column names of folders or names of libraries. Thanks.
The library name
@mLernen is correct the names on the side are what you named the library that points to your folders, they don't need to be named the same but I try to keep them the same to try and not confuse things. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the video. I have an issue that keeps me from being able to enable the remote sharing function of Plex. It says I'm being a CGNAT. I get internet from my ISP which is provided through their router. In order to increase range, I then connected a TP-Link mesh network. The main unit of the TP-Link mesh network is connected to the ISP via ethernet table and acts as its own router. So in essence there are two networks. Internet works. I disabled Wifi on ISP router and use Wifi through TP-Link as it was causing issues. I tried Bridge mode, but that too caused a lot of problems and was very slow when it did work. So I reverted back to the current solution. But I'm unable to get Plex to work. Any work arounds for my issue?
You may have a situation called double NATing. The easiest way to get this to work is to eliminate the ISP's router and use your main TP-Link as your main router so that outside traffic will hit the TP-link and then port forward to your plex server. You will still need a modem, but they can be found for cheep. All the Best!
Awsame work. 👌
Thank you! Cheers!

Plex is a great media server, but a desktop PC dedicated is overkill unless you have a lot of streams going on at once. A Mini-PC with a USB external drive housing that passes through to the PC will be pretty inexpensive and very up-gradable. I have Linux on a desktop computer with Plex running as a Docker container, it uses a tiny fraction of the processor and memory. I have 8 other containers running and it's still nearly idle. Sure there's a learning curve for the Linux and containers setup, but worth it, and once set up, will run for years without attention. If you do containers, and backup your configuration, you can move to another computer pretty easily.
Thanks for sharing, and I agree and will release another video soon with a new simple build that I am working on. All the Best!
@@GTKTheater If I uploaded installation and fault finding videos, how many clients could watch them at the same time.? Would there be country restrictions and how do we need to set the server up for client access. I assume that we would need static IP to the server. Assuming a simultaneous viewing figure of 200 at peak times, what would be the minimum network speed to the server need to be and would it be set up as accessible from our website. PS. Some of our work is medical, so it would need to be accessed from almost everywhere in the world including cruise ships. I have seen systems where the controller shows more than 10,000 people connected, but our maximum estimate is 200
So this support for DTS X or Dolby Atmos, should that be supported by the TVs? If the TV doesnt support DTS X but the connected speaker does support DTS X, would the sound work?
It is my understanding that all the newer formats are backwards compatible, and so you get the lowest usable format by your hardware. Now, your TV or soundbar can may be able to decode and play some form of Atmos or DTX but more importantly if you connect it to surround sound AVR if it can receive and transmit Atmos or DTS to your Surround sound AVR it will give you the full Atmos / DTS experience. Thanks for the Question!
Great! Thanks
You're welcome!
Man you think like me. I can't wait to start my Man cave/ Theater ❤😊
Welcome aboard!
So if I have a 5.1 receiver and am burning a disc should I select to remove the HD mastered audio since I cannot take advantage to the 7.1 or will the HD mastered audio still sound better on a five point one system?
Here is the simple answer, Take the full 7.1 and a 5.1 system will play the core 5.1 audio. Here is the technical answer, HD Mastered Audio encodes an audio master in lossy DTS first, then stores a concurrent stream of supplementary data representing whatever the DTS encoder discarded. This gives DTS-HD MA a lossy "core" able to be played back by devices that cannot decode the more complex lossless audio.
@@GTKTheater thanks
The title is build a server cheap and easy not how to install plex. Very poorly worded and misleading title
You may not be aware of this but, form a technical standpoint the term Server refers to the software regardless of the hardware. If I were to just install PLEX Media Server on my PC it would still be a PLEX Media Server because the PC is running the PLEX Media Server software. So the title is accurate, and I am sorry that your take issue with the semantics, but I still I wish you all the best and hope you hang around, you never know when I will put out cool original idea you can use.
@@GTKTheater and everyone looking for a video to set build a cheap and easy server obviously knows a lot about it. That’s why they are YouTubing it. A better title would be installing a plex server. Anyone seeing that title would think I are actually building the machine since that’s where all the cost comes from
@@GTKTheater actually i have watched many videos on building servers and that is not correct
Skill issue
the title says hardware choices ie how to build it
This didn’t show how to build a server at all. It should be titled how to install plex
As the hardware and OS for each persons build would be different, I focused on the PLEX side of the build. Thanks for the comment!
@@GTKTheater that isnt a build
I love Plex! It is the best media server I have ever seen! It is easy. I just download a video. Put it on my movies/tv shows folder and bam! I have a impressive poster, cast lists, reviews etc.
Thanks for the testimonial, and the comment!
My biggest issue with Plex is that they have all these settings but don't really provide a simple and efficient way of providing everyone what the best optimal settings are...IE What should the Database Cache Size (MB) size be in the Library settings? default is 40mb....
You know I have not changed any setting and kept all the defaults and it has worked great for years. Thanks for the comment you got me thinking...
I have plex, and had my video folders connected. Now I have lost connection to my folders and movies. How can I get acces to my movies again.
You can simply edit or create new directories and point them back to your folders and PLEX will index them again in your menus. Thanks for the question.
What I'd recommend is DumboFab Blu-ray Ripper. It is skilled in removing copy protections and making discs region free. With it, you can easily extract the content out of a Blu-ray (DVD) and save it in popular video format such as MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, etc which is readable by PC, external hard drive, portable devices and more. You can also make 1:1 Blu-ray copy to BDMV folder/M2TS/MKV losslessly and keep 100% original videos/audios/subtitles within only 5 mins.
Randi Shores
This can also works on private ip address?
Yes, they make it work even if you IP changes periodically and is not static.
Wow, good setup... it may be expensive (the setup things)
Thanks for the comment, I think I will do a video by the end of the year where I challenge my self to build a new theater now and show how much it would cost.
I ge the front 3 but nothing else. Depends on the video. Some do use all 5.1. Must really be an issue with UA-cam and browsers.....maybe Windows settings. Likely better on an Android TV box.
It may depend on the device you are listening to the video on, can it receive and send 5.1 channels such as an Apple TV box? I promise the video has 5.1 channels and works. Tested!
Is it not piracy for a DVD to fail after one viewing in just one year and then I have to rebuy it again?
Hear, Hear, this is why the law should be changed... in my humble opinion... Thanks for the comment.
When will it illegal to cell DVD's that do not last for at least 20 years?
Did you know the lifespan of a DVD and Blu-ray depends on how it's stored and handled, but it can last between 30 and 100 years, but for some strange reason the good ones never last! I think it is a conspiracy... Thanks for the comment!
With the DISC Rot going on where my disc go bad 6 months later after one watching., these companies have no right to a copyright or putting copy guards on the disc. I had three seasons of Smallville that just quit working. I finally got a hold of WB and made them replacing all three. Star Trek TOS 4K films came out and the stores no longer had any to exchange and Star Trek 1 film did not work, had to get a hold of Paramount to give me a new disc. Look up disc rot. My superman box set from 2006, one disc actually had cracked apart. So, we have a right to copy disc to save our investment from cheap azz corporations. I have 40 year old VHS out lasting disc (and the government still uses three quarter inch tape for storage for they know how bad disc are. Though the funny thing is CD do not seem to have disc rot problems.
Thanks for comment, it is true that it should not be illegal to make backup copies for personal use, but the movie companies like the law so that they have a clear line to sue companies that break the DMCA. Maybe we could get enough complaints to our leaders in Washington to carve out an exception for personal use.
It is legal to backup any Digital good's you buy in Australia if you live there as its part of our consumer protection laws to stop you been screwed over by publishers
It is my understanding that the DMCA does not apply in Australia, Lucky... This is a US copyright law. Good question, Thanks
@@GTKTheater You are allowed to mod Play Stations here ... Sony have tried stopping this over the years only to keep loosing the cases. In saying that we have had quite a few web sites blocked due to Piracy concerns from the requests of companies like Sony ,Disney and FOX. The funny thing is these sites are not blocked in the US.
I don’t care if it’s legal or not, I own the movies and have the disks. I will make a copy for my server if I want and they can kiss my @ss.
Just so you know compression doesnt always mean lossy. Think of a zip file, the files are compressed but if you unzip them you get all the data back
It is possible to compress videos without a noticeable loss in quality if you use the right tools and settings. Over compression: Can result in pixelation, artifacts, and a noticeable loss of quality Under-compression: Can result in a very large file H.264 encoding: An efficient method of compressing videos that results in a slight loss of quality H.265 (HEVC) codec: A more compressed format that's known for its high compression and good video quality MP4 is a lossless media container, which means that its compression doesn't affect the quality of its audio and video output. However, if compression goes beyond a certain point, MP4 can become lossy. Thanks for the comment!
Here's the simple fact: No one, absolutely no one, has been prosecuted or sued for having a library of copies of protected works, however vast, for personal use. Under such a condition, it is laughable to claim such is illegal. Even if such a law were on the books, it is dead letter. But yes, DMCA delenda est: not so much because of copying movies but because of subscriptions to our car engines.
Let's just say as a UA-camr making videos on how to copy DVDs and Blu-rays for private use, you can appreciate why I would need to be clear on the subject. That to break the encryption of a movie disc when not authorized is illegal according to the law, specifically the DMCA. I am not saying you can't do it or that your are likely to be prosecuted for doing it. Just that it is the law so "caveat emptor." Thanks for comment!
