Last year I built a bioactive enclosure for my crested gecko. In this vid I go over what worked, what didn't and how I feel over all. Initially I was weary of going bioactive.... wanna know how it went? Check this out!

Pinky mice are good to give to your female bearded dragons especially after laying eggs because pinky’s carry calcium in there belly
Technically, you can give female dragons pinky mice after laying, but not live grown mice like in that video. There are other options I'd suggest instead.
Thank you for sharing
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I'm glad she finally laid her eggs! They love worrying us 🙂 Since I have a shellfish allergy and isopods are shellfish. I'm going to go with worms and springtails. Thank you!
Are you going bioactive with a gecko or another reptile?
@chrisg2419 - make sure you get captive bred worms and not from a bate shop. If collected from the wild, they can carry parasites. I know Josh's frogs sells them.
@@Midwest_Lizard_Mom leopard gecko and bearded dragon. Maybe also my hognose but he does like the Aspen bedding for burrowing so I'm not sure on him yet.
@@Midwest_Lizard_Mom Thank you!
@chrisg2419- beardy would definitely be fine. In fact, they can eat eat worms on occasion, so totally safe. My concern with the gecko is them choking if they ate it. I'm not going bioactive for my hognose at the moment. I don't think they'd care about the worms. I like aspen too, it's cleaner and I can find him. I hope this is helpful and not confusing. Also, make sure your reptile is parasites free before going bioactive.
Love hognoses

Hi Susie lost my little Dobby yesterday only one unit two months old don't know what was wrong with him he was at the bet's four months ago with clear health and everything looked like he started going into brumation he's pads on top of his head starts sinking in His Eyes started thinking he know he's had a black bee but then Dobbies one of them dragons were always had half a black beard anyway three times in a row now I've lost an animal at Christmas one on Boxing Day and two on the 27th I lost my Ozzy on the 27th last year and now I've lost Dobby this year on the 27th and my heart is absolutely broken now froggy yeast in the life I love him to pieces and I love my Simba to pieces and the other dragons I've had Dobby from a little baby is to sit on the bum and I watched and grow to the size he was even nearly 24 inches long but now he's passed away just waiting how to move into the new house and then I've bury him in in the garden might not sound right but he's in the freezer give me time to get him down to the new house and bury him to walk the bats do anyway they put them in freezers before they cremate them I would love to send him off to have him cremated so guys she's with the boy the dog binary out of pain now I don't know why or what caused it just look like you was going into broom Nations so he got a bit of poo on him underneath he laid in his own who all over him and I did go on to Google and ask if it was a right to do this and everybody said yes even a bit what was online what cost me money to talk to so he ended up in a nice clean but no poo at all on him and then I put it back in the cage of the warming him up dried him off and he left him sitting in the war but he crawled himself to where he needed to go and that's where he passed what noise been born anything is he was alive when we went out the door and he was dead when he got back in the door I was all about 10-15 minutes down the road getting some food for them all plugs shouldn't be crying we should be the hard ones but I think that because of my dog going last year I've never got over it because me and my dog were very very close my Mrs don't understand me she says I'm stupid these are my children I love him this is my new Hobby to be looking after it my lots of heartbreak every time one dies but anyway have a great New Year wait to see some new beds when you put them out
@johnthayre8088 - I'm so sorry to hear about this! Our reptiles are family to us, they steal a piece of our heart, so when they go it hurts. It's not odd to freeze them before you move. I have a relative who did that with his Iguana because he couldn't bring himself to bury them yet. And they weren't sure if they wanted to cremate. As far as health stuff, it could be a number of things. You can do everything right, but because they can mask illness, they could be suffering and you don't know. It's good that you cleaned him up before he fell asleep. It sounds like he pooed right before brumation, which is good. Since they were always black bearding, it sounds like something else was going on. They can black beard as a way to communicate, stress, or illness. Don't be hard on yourself. Take care.
@Midwest_Lizard_Mom thanks Susie pictures hurt so much to lose one which is that young no reason I know what you're saying because when my dog died last year on the same day 27th December my heart got broken and I think ever since then I just miss him so much my wife doesn't understand me at all she thinks I'm stupid just so I love animals more than I love humans I get over it after a few months but I am looking for another one I'm not going to let dobby's death stop me from having any more I love him to pieces I still will I've got memories of him I've got lots of photographs of him so Adam belt to buy a new little rankings dragon and he's it's going to be called Dobby Junior even at the moment I go to the cages and I keep calling one of the other dragons Dobby and I can't stop doing it even those names froggy or it's bam bam they both get called Dobby just hurt so much to lose one sorry for waffling on
@johnthayre8088 - I'm so sorry. 😞
My little guy is a year old and has been switching back forth between his warm hide and the cool side and sleeping till noon. His lights automatically go off at 8pm and he usually comes out at 9am.
If they're going into brumation you'll want to take a fecal sample to the vet to make sure they aren't sick. If clear, it could be brumation, since they're over a year old.
Just got my bearded dragon today, he started off very nervous and he hid under a piece of wood, but he eventually came out and ate food out of my hand! Thank you for the tips, they are helpful!
That's so great! Food is a good motivator! Congrats on your little friend. I'm glad it's going well.
This is just cruel. Glad you called him out on it, and used it to make a good educational video.
Thanks so much for watching. I figure if this helps anyone, then I'm happy. And I try to be classy and not bash others. My goal is no drama here. 😀
Great video/info! Another good thing about fostering is, the rescue will pay the vet bills.
@chrisg2419 - I hadn't thought of that! Good point!
My bearded dragon won’t eat crickets I even went and brought locusts and no joy he eats mealworms cockroaches and he loves wood lice he has the odd Xmas beetle when out in the garden but also is treated to a blueberry every know and then Awesome video
@@DaveBayliss-v6d - thanks! Crickets agent the best, so if yours won't eat them, don't worry!
@ I think mine does ok he has a good variety it has taken some time to get a good balance I did try him with dried out bugs I even put them in water to make them look more alive he still did not fall for them I have noticed putting live mealworms and bugs among his rocket leaves he will eat more salad as well as the mint leaves I grow 😊
@DaveBayliss-v6d - dried bugs are bad, so it's great they didn't go for them. I have a bearded dragon diet video. I can share the link if you need it!
@@Midwest_Lizard_Mom hey I only tried him with them for a short time he was not interested at all Yoda ( bearded Dragon) has a very good appetite know he loves wild mint which I grow and mealworms have been so good although there are a lot of people out there who don’t recommend these yet I have had no problem at all ☺️
That's something new I never knew what you told me that cricket's carry parasites I know in the wild and Dragons captivity do have parasites in a you can't get rid of them and I've been told this by a vet as well in Australian vet who told me this because in the wild you don't give them injections or medicines to get rid of parasites over there they just get on with I don't know if that makes any sense or you can understand that what I'm trying to say in the wild the beard is out there have parasites in there their cells like what we have in our pets you know pets we given injections to get rid of the parasites but you're not really meant to get rid of them totally I hope that makes sense and very merry Christmas to you Susie and your family and all your animals❤❤
The other thing to think about is we're able to treat parasites in captivity, so if we're giving good care and feeding them well, reptiles could live longer in captivity than in the wild. Mine hasn't had parasites, but if he did, I'd get medication from his vet.
Forgive my loads of insects but we don't give them crickets because we don't like them and the pet shop can't get out of them even though they're reptile shop but anyway ones we give them Latin a couple of times and then they won't eat them anymore like doobie roaches away their meal worms they like their Mario's where do they like they like to they all love this salads I have rocket but not squash every now and again strawberry blueberries are giving bit cucumber every now and again bit of water Chris every now and again wax worms every now and again when I do the worms of a wax worms meal worms or the other ones super worms as you call them they have calci powder on them❤
Crickets have been known to carry parasites, so some people never feed them. I do on occasion if I'm out of other bugs, since African Fat Tail gecko loves Crickets the most and has regurgitated worms at times.
My Harley likes the ribbon toppers for presents <3
That's a new one! Just be careful they don't eat any part of it.
He reminds me of a ceramic piece that hasn’t been painted yet!❤️🔥

Congrats on being a beardy owner. I have a lot of videos on care and such. They're amazing reptiles!
@ totally subscribed I have so many questions. This is day for he was mad at me. But I made it up to him with a new light and a few buggies. He’s color changed and i wanted him to relax his spikes. We start bonding in a few days.
You'll get there! I got to hear how it's going! They have different personalities. My dude took a bit to get him used to be, but I went slow, since i knew he was skittish. Now I'm the only one he let's hold him. I'm so excited for you and your journey with your new buddy!
Great video! Question how many times has kaiju gone into brewmation?
He hasn't yet. But he may be this year. He's showing signs of slowing down, hiding and refused bugs for the first time ever this week. I'm waiting for him to poo so I can bring a sample to the vet.
Oh okay hope can continue to make vids about kaiju!@@Midwest_Lizard_Mom

I couldn't give up any of my dragons not for anything I give all of them all the love I can I'm here 24/7 with them so you know go out for a couple of hours but I give them all the love I can give them there's one thing I would never ever do is give them I know sometimes like you you thought you weren't given them enough love and you've given to give her away so I'm retired now from work so my dragons get all all my attention my wife don't like it tough I love them she gets just as much loving as what my dragons do and my dogs must've broke your heart when you gave your female beardy away cos I know when when my dog my dog died at Christmas absolutely broke my heart you know I'm a bloke shouldn't cry but I just bone my eyes out every now and again because of it in children's home and then into the army you know I thought was quite a hard person but know what I mean by underneath all of it is a Magento is a lamb maybe somewhere under there I've got a heart after all start yesterday I was reading about bearded dragon over ear and it bulk me eyes out no reason just bulb me myself
It was a tough decision, but as you heard in the video, I did it for her. At the time I couldn't give her what she deserved.
@Midwest_Lizard_Mom I don't Mount I don't mean what I said to be rude to you Susie it's just the way I feel I wouldn't give any of dragons meme everything to me even if I had heart heart ship what we call it I'll struggling I would still find a way to keep them and I can understand why you're done it because you were more at work beauty up with me is I could get keeping getting my son to come and look after him because he has disabilities so so he could look after him if I went to work but some of my bosses are bad I really good you know I could like break time go home dinner time go home in the afternoon when we have a break I could go home and check them immigrate time to suppose that is the difference between me living in the UK and new living in America you yeah most of my jobs I've had been literally just down the road on the industrial state of what you call them over there don't get me wrong I love what you do to pieces and I would never do anything to stop our little friendship we got at least I hope we're friends is John signing off from the UK now about 7:30 in the morning here raining windy and the Seas a little bit rough xxx
@johnthayre8088 - thanks for the clarity, but I wasn't offended. Just explaining why I did.
What can I Susie I tried feeding my beardies other types of food like squash and other bits and pieces but they don't eat it they just eat their wild rock you with a little bit of beep on it and a little bit of Kelsey powder and they eat they're insects that's it froggially a bit of carrot same but they're all eat a little bit of carrot but maybe one or two little bits and that is it they won't eat anymore of bell peppers the same they just a little bit and they won't eat no more never tried cucumber on them they bad straw bit strawberries I don't give them very often very rare but one slither and that's it they don't eat anything else the main thing is their greens there were rocket I don't know what you call it in America but agree we call it white rock wild rocket but that's all they were mainly eat obviously they eat their worms and they jumpers and whatever I doobie Roach is xxx
Rocket is known as Arugula in the USA.
Didn't realise you had other lizards as well not just fought you had bearded dragons
I have 4 geckos, 1 snake, and 1 beardy.
@Midwest_Lizard_Mom hi Susie it's John from UK yeah don't like snakes never will don't like spiders or anything creepy Crawley like that don't mind repeated dragons never had a gecko don't know how to look after I suppose going on the internet and reading more about them I could get on with one I got two rescues for my son woman threaten to put them down the toilet and drown them when she walked into the pet shop where we were who just deal with Reptiles and she got reported for what she said to the what we call the RSPCA what she fought she was buying when she bought them from someone else was was two females two males in the end it all worked out they were all males she was going to kill them and me in the wife walked in while we why we were there when she was talking about it and my pet shop owner Donna turn and said do we want him so he run harrier my son and he's misses and they took both for them in and they are surviving to this day and they have grown into lovely little geckos I think it's what you call leopard geckos I'm not sure yeah I think the leopard geckos and my son Harry gave one to my son-in-law because he lost his bearded dragon last year she died on him I think he used to call a flops she was about 19 years old he's very much like me in the way of that men shouldn't cry but you know broke she broke his heart when she died yada from a little baby stop waffling on because I just keep on going and going I would love you wait to see some more of your videos on I would geckos or on the bearded dragons thanks xxx
Just finished watching your video Suzy it's John from UK now I quite agree with you no one should be feeding mice to bearded dragons because they don't eat them in the wild I have seen a few other videos on here one is an American lad I don't know he's coming boys name is he feder he had not he didn't feed it but he put a video up of someone feeding another lizard to a bearded dragon which I thought was very disgusting I've also seen a few other videos of pure pinkies being fed to female bearded dragons it's so wrong that UA-cam allow people to put things up like that one here I know the the ladder was watching you someone gave them a bearded dragon another lizard that was taken straight off because of the amount of complaints are really dont think people should be allowed to put anything or showing of a mice or anything like that up on UA-cam don't mind eggs being given to him or watching like the little insects being given English bloke over here he's a student he's got all the degrees in looking after Reptiles and he got demonetized just because he fed Cockroaches or whatever they were doobie roaches to one of his dragons they said it was cruel but the same like he said there was another video on the bloke showing in America shown exactly the same thing with Kelsey powder on the insects and his beardy dragons eating them stay warm and your little Dragons xx
I think I know which content creator you're referring to. He said something about that in a vid. So ridiculous he got in trouble for feeding insects. And yeah, I showed part of the chase, but left out the catch because no one needs to see that. So sad.
@Midwest_Lizard_Mom hi really don't know yins and out of UA-camr don't really care I don't do it myself but I just watch but they seem to have rules for one rules for another yeah if you do something wrong you get demonetized or whatever it's called for doing something silly like the English blow over here he's like a professor
The bloke's been to college learn all these degrees and everything else and yet he gets demonetised just because he's put Kelsey powder on Beatles or whatever it was and fed them to his beardy dragons you know you don't seem right
@@Midwest_Lizard_Momsaw that video too, the algorithm gods are mad I tell you.
I believe someone complained because the bugs were shook in a container to distribute the calcium powder on them before feeding, which is ridiculous. You have to do that to coat them. And your then immediately feeding them. It's not like they're torturing the bugs.
Adorable 🥰
