I am a lifelong fisherman and decided I would like to share my fishing experiences with the world. I fish mainly in the Southwest Ohio area but occasionally get out to do some destination dangling in many different locations. I specialize in high-percentage fishing, chasing many different species throughout the year depending on conditions--largemouth and smallmouth bass, white and hybrid bass, bluegill, crappie, suckers, trout, and catfish to name a few. I don't discriminate; I just want to get some bend in my rod! I fish rivers, creeks, ponds, and lakes large and small. I specialize in public waters. I like to show places that you can go fishing and what to expect. Thanks for checking out the channel! Please Like, Subscribe, and Comment. Hopefully I can help you...Go Get Some Bend in Yer Rod!!!

These feisty little wigglers are one size down from nightcrawlers and will stay alive longer during these dog days of summer. Today we try out a new stretch on one of our local rivers. There are many species of fish that live in this body of water, so we had no idea what to expect. When extreme low water conditions exits, I like to use small lures to catch any fish that swims, no matter how small they might be. Harvesting these baitfish for later use to catch giants is a great way to catch your own bait for free! And ...

We catch a quillback sucker and a little saugeye on a 3" red Keitech Easy Shiner and a better saugeye on a 4" purple/white Keitech Easy Shiner. You can't catch them on the couch. Gin-Clear Neighborhood Pond is ON FIRE! - Easy Bass and Crappie Fishing
What a great looking Smallmouth! Keitech EZ Shiner for the win. I was of the opinion it would be crazy to fish a flooded river but I'd be wrong. Good video!
The fishing was otherwise very slow. Did okay in a mountain stream that will be my next video. Steel next couple weeks...would like some rain
@@FiveRiverRodBenderFishing I'm ready. Rain would really help but there are a few being caught in the eastern tribs.
@stevebrockway4738 I've seen that too. Probably staging at the mouths out west
Excellent video what was the rod and reel setup used
Thank you! The rod is decent, 6'6" light action 2 piece BPS micro lite. The reel is just a cheapo abu Garcia that I don't use anymore. I use that rod 95% of the time. I have a diawa on it now, much better
Keep the videos coming really enjoy
Love the videos man! I love smally fishing rivers. I will definitely subscribe! Tight lines!
Thank you so much! About to go after some steelhead in the next few weeks
What size Keitech do you use for trout and what size jig head and hook?
Same as all the other fish. Anywhere from 1/32 to 1/8 oz jig heads depending on the conditions, always as little as I can get away with. I have the best luck with 2" and 3" easy shiners or other baits that do basically the same thing.
@@FiveRiverRodBenderFishing ok thanks are you planning on doing any trout fishing this year?
Great video are you.still using your 6,' 6" light action rod
Yes I am. It's still kicking around. Almost time for a new one
Watching you catch fish is making me want to go out for the first time in years!! Keep it up!
Let's go!
Good to hear you got into them. Not much longer to try for some Steelies.
Yes! I'm starting to get excited. Time to test out my waders and hope for some dang rain! I may come up this fall and stay until the job gets done. Not gonna take no for an answer like last year
What area of ohio ?
I named my channel after the Five Rivers that surround the Dayton area.
Bad to the bone, Brother!THANKS FOR SHARING IT WITH US!
Thanks for the kind words. Tight lines out there!
Enjoyed the video. And new subscriber supporting your channel.

Fishing and disc golf, America’s two classic pastimes
You betcha! I spend very little time at home 😂. Thanks for commenting!
Disc golfer and a fisherman?
Yessir! You're the first to mention the hat. I spend very little time at home, 5-6 rounds of golf per week and a fishing trip or two. Tight lines and throw well, my friend. Thanks for commenting!
What is the rod and reel you are using and the size awesome video
Lews speed spin 6'6" light action combo ($50). Spooled with 4 lb crappie maxx high vis line.
Awesome video. How are you rigging up the worms? I’ve never really fished with worms in the river, but trying to expand from the usual things I do.
I just put on a BB split shot about 12-14" about a size 8 short shank hook. I just hook the worm once so it can wiggle in the water and get a bite. Threading too much worm on the hook results in unnatural action. Tight lines! Thanks for the comment!
Is this mad river
Negative. It is one of the other five rivers.
Are you in ohio
Yes
Live bait can save a day. That hole was loaded. Even a Keitech EZ Shiner couldn't have done better.
That's true. Easy shiners have been struggling this summer. I fancy them more in colder water. Thanks, Steve.
The easiest way is the best!
Why complicate things? 😂
@@dbrockway84 The right way or the Brockway!
Everything is pretty low up this way too. Having withdrawal from rod bend recently. Good video as usual.
Thanks, bud. It's been a struggle out there. Good luck my friend
Any time fishing is better than not fishing, thanks for sharing you day with us.
Absolutely. Thanks for watching!
Hey man, So without asking where this wading spot is located.... how close is it to the rotary ponds in the creek of beavers? I also noticed you said the water was low, is it normally that wadeable?
This is in the mad river up north from the creek of beavers lol. It is normally pretty wadeable except during high water events. All our rivers are super low right now. Hope we get some rain...
Liked the video. Also just subscribed to your channel for future vids. Good luck out there and tight lines
Appreciate the support! Go get em!
I just got my Fish Ohio pin today for a really nice Sandusky bay cat. It really put a bend in my rod!
That place is thick with em. Nice job, Steve! I got one in the gmr a couple years ago but just barely measured.
What hooks are you using for the cats?
Gamakatsu octopus circle 1/0. I probably need to bump up a couple sizes. Those were getting too deep for my liking
👍
Thanks! You out there catching em?
Yep went to Michigan on vacation I caught my pb smallie almost 18 inches
@cgamingoutdoors6843 great job!
Thanks
We went to a new pond this past week. My grandson threw out a piece of cut bait .. we assume a kitty got it......only sound we heard was it flipping over the side of the pontoon. He is now the proud owner of a new rod and reel.😂
Loosen that drag lol. Never know when a monster will come along...
Thanks for sharing your day!!!
Great video! Glad to see you out fishing again!!
Thanks! Putting together another one now...should be up in an hour or so...
Every time I go bank shoreline fishing 🎣 i bring a couple plastic bags easy to stuff in pocket or tackle bag when I see garage at the fishing site time to bust out those plastic bags just an idea Gone fishing 🎣 oooh yah fish 🐟 ON BROTHER n sisters God bless America 🇺🇸 USA amen 🙏 🙌
I do what I can. Thanks for the comment!
Is this that pond by Rotary Park? At Hunter's Ridge subdivision.
Well that all depends... 😂. Are you subscribed to the channel?
Yeah. I grew up in that subdivision when I was little. It just looks familiar. You don't gotta share your secrets lol
I thought that might have been the spot as well. I haven't been over there this spring/summer yet. But the sign posting seems really new since last fall? I believe I saw a pond closer to BV going west from spot there, but it had been posted a couple of years back when I saw it. Glad to see you are back, I was one of those newbies to the channel, found you around this time last year I believe. Hoping to get some pointers from watching someone who fishes near me.
It is HR. It's not a secret. Three other dudes were there that day too who didn't live there lol
Evidently they just posted the signs relatively recently. I didn't have any trouble. Thanks for watching and shooting a comment. I hope to be getting a video out every 7-10 days if the fish and weather cooperate. Tight lines!
You can't catch fish fart in the water something has to come up
Thanks for commenting! Good luck out there
Wow, your still alive, thought you was worm dirt by now! Glade your still fishing.
I aim to get back after it more regular. Took a while off but I'm glad you're still watching. Thanks so much!
Good to see you posting again friend! Those flappers seem to be a tad more durable than the EZ shiners, but just as effective.
They definitely hold together better. I did catch one on an easy shiner but wanted to make the vid about the flapper. I'm sure they will clean up some smallies too. Maybe next video...🤔. Thanks as always, Steve
Yay you posted
Finally! Thanks for commenting! Go catch some fish 😜
Hey, hey.....how are you doing? We have a local pond where the bass are all skinny like that.
I think it's post spawn males. Their tails were all tore up too. Thanks for checking in, Dave. I hope to keep em coming again. Your brother, you and I should chase some steel this fall 🍁
Darn it, you beat me to it.
Yes, most definitely we need to catch some Steelies.
I caught my PB tonight 27inch 7.5lbs saugeye 8pm Tappen Lake Ohio trolling 50yds from bank yeehaw..😂
Hell yeah, dude! That's a beast! I think my best is 24" or so. Great job!
If it were not for that weird intro I might have watched the whole video I am 68 year old fly fisherman but love fishing all kinds of
I'm not exactly sure what you mean; we all have our likes and dislikes. I appreciate you watching the channel. Good luck out there!
How do you fish that swim baits for trout? By the way thank you for responding to my comments it’s been helping me a ton
I fish those swimbaits the same way no matter what species I'm looking for. I use the lightest jig head I can to get down to the bottom. And then I pop it up off the bottom and just reel it back slowly. Just like in this winter saugeye video. A lot of times when the fish are active I get hit as the bait sinking.
Ok thanks again for helping me so much I’m just a kid trying to learn the ways of fishing for stuff other than largemouth
What access did you fish
I have used just about every bridge over the river from Springfield up to West Liberty. Most of them are easy to park and get in the river
Ok
You should make I video at mad river gorge went there today saw a 15 inch trout didn’t have much time to fish but caught a baby smallmouth
wheres that at on watts bar..... the city
A bunch of different places but all in the white's Creek area between Rockwood and spring City
@@FiveRiverRodBenderFishing gotcha …. I’m in the Athens area and haven’t made it that way yet
What are those baits you’re using
Keitech easy shiner on ball head jigs
Great video how long did you fish for?
I was probably out there for three or four hours. Hard to remember. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks went there shortly after watching this video and caught my first trout. Should I fish deep pockets or fish middle of the river?
Awesome job! Trout are weird. I'm mostly a smallmouth fisherman and trout behave totally differently. Seems like the browns will be in anything deeper than a foot of water. I've made casts where I thought I would never catch a fish and have one come back. I have spent two hours on deep holes that I swore had fish in them only to get skunked. Just gotta keep going back and learning what works for you. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Great video, but should've told those 2 crackheads to kick rocks.
Like your video I always use a little bit of super glue it extends the life of your plastic just a little bit especially with the ky-tech
I've had mixed success with super glue. Definitely helps but I can't keep it from drying out or leaking in my bag lol
Good to see you back at it. I guess you can go fishing in the winter ❄️
Year round baby!
Thats a nice setup!,Is there a reason you dont make your hook weedless?
I'm lazy and there are a lot of rocks there. Weedless rigs still get caught up. Thanks for commenting!
Sooooo glad to see you out an about making videos again brother
Thanks, Marcus! Life happens and it was a busy 2023. I hope to be more regular in 2024. Tight lines, brother!
Completely understand that and cant wait Always tight lines man!!!!
