Hey, those services were actually from the 80s! But they continued and died in the 90s, though.

I remember using Prodigy as my internet service provider back in 1992. I had a desktop computer that I bought from Radio Shack. The first online purchase I made was a cassette tape of Frankie Valli and the four seasons' "Anthology. "

Fun fact: in the early days, GEnie ("General Electric Network for Information Exchange") was ONLY available during evening and weekend hours, because, during the weekday, General Electric was using the network infrastructure for its own corporate use.

Terry...Great history lesson. I was there for all this. Its really quite amazing how fast everything happened. I remember connecting to CompuServe for the first time. I was so excited to get in and see what it was all about. Turned out it was like using the command line or playing Zork. Wasn't ready for that level yet. haha

Prodigy was ny favorite!! Sinple and clean. AOL is what Facebook is today. MSN Internet had high quality content, Comic Chat was cool. CompuServ was similar to prodigy.. IBM information superhighway had insane amount of content. All these isp were awesome and did not sell your data and no spam!! Time Warner cable Road Runner kill them all

I had Compuserve as a kid in like 1989, had to get an extra phone line strictly for it because a phone call would kick me off. I was using a Colecovision Adam computer with a cassstte drive

I worked at Prodigy in the 80’s and early 90s. It was the best job I ever had. Tons of very smart people, that were willing to share their knowledge. Occasionally we would ask ourselves if we ever thought Prodigy or something like it would truly catch on. I must admit there were a lot of us that never foresaw what would eventually happen.

4:55 Did you say $3.50 per HOUR?? That's over $7 per hour today. It's a wonder how my parents didn't go bankrupt, considering how much I was on it!

I remember my brother getting the fatalities and move list for the arcade version of mortal kombat I or II from a kid down the street, saying he had hooked his phone line up to prodigy but I had no idea what that meant. It was printed on that multi-layered paper with the holes you can tear off the ends.

In the mid 90s, the best success I had was with Netcom. UNIX shell account + SLIRP + Trumpet Winsock on a windows PC.

I remember dialing into Prodigy in the early 90's as a kid on a 286 PC with EGA graphics. It was a different time, and such a different experience. It inspired a sense of awe and wonder to get on a worldwide network back then. Today, it's just normal everyday stuff that we take for granted.

I remember those days fondly as well. When the Internet was so new and novel. I remember being on AOL in the early-mid 90s and running up a $25 ISP bill for my parents.
