    Works more like multi band compressor What the difference now?

    • @AudioWavesAcademy.
      @AudioWavesAcademy. 2 дні тому

      Yes and no! There is a big difference here with a multiband comp and this is the algorithm of different options like the balanced option or the loose option. Also in a multiband comp you have most of the times a ms time on attack and release. To sum up, you can have also a decent result with a multiband but if I had the option to use this plugin, I would go for it.

    IMHO you're using this not the way it was intended. I feel like you didn't really tweak the smart curve at all to make sense. For example - if you'd have activated the adaptive on the guitar lead and chords example, cut the low smart processing and put them on one depth layer, it would probably have sounded way better the way I know that EQ. Then you have a starting point from where you shouldn't just go like "it's done" but do your compressing, maybe some more manual EQ on top, achieving a similar result quite quickly.

  • @joost3783
    @joost3783 25 днів тому

    sadly the most Important parameters can't be midi controlled via a controller (i.e. the smart slopes width adaptive etc.) I wrote them an email but not actually sure they will address that stuff.

    I bought both smart: eq and smart: reverb and I stopped using both! The smart: reverb is a dud! A machine can't replace your ears as far as reverbs go. IMHO, reverb needs the human touch as that's a creative call. As for the smart: eq, I found that the plugin was making my guitars sound bad! It also messed with my piano tracks in a negative way. So I just sh*tcanned them both! No one needs smart reverbs or eq's! Those should be left up to your imagination!

    In my opinion better results could be possible with smarteq4, it's not set-up to its full potential yet. For example, for every instance, a source profile should be chosen (next to the learn function). On 'universal' the suggestions try to flatten the equalised output. That is exactly what happened, the results soundend more flat. Another good practice when the group function is used, the 'dynamic' parameter should be engaged for better results. For vocals the dynamic parameter can do a fantasting job (like you would expect from a dynamic eq), taming resonances. Cheers from a fellow producer, keep rocking!

    I tried it for a month, at first I didn’t like it but after some time with it I found that it isn’t a bad plugin at all. It is very useful for doing fast mixes for live recordings. • @prevayletheproducer5431
      @prevayletheproducer5431 29 днів тому

      Its useful because its consistent, you can easily make different takes sound like one take. I personally use it to get the elements in my mix in the right ball park, this way i'm adjusting my faders more accurately before really digging into mix, I don't want a 100hz rumble to cause me to turn my guitar way down when it shouldn't even be there. I could of course do this with a regular eq plugin but this is much faster and more consistent. You pretty much know what its trying to get your kick to sound like, our how its trying to eq your snare and the more familiar you get with what its doing the faster you can shape it to your liking. It lets you build a solid foundation to mix with.

    Very informative and concise. I have spent several days researching which set of head phones will work best for my music production and recording needs. I was originally recommended the Audio Technica ATH M50x but the more I looked into them the less sure I was until one of the reviews recommended the DT770s. As an amateur composer and keyboard/synthesizer player I want headphones that are capable of accurately depicting a full spectrum of sound from electronic/synth sounds to acoustic/orchestral sounds. Durability and comfort is also very important. My only dislike is that the DT770s don't have a detachable cable. I am really hoping they update their design to include a detachable cable.

  • @juless753
    @juless753 5 місяців тому

    These are really good for the price but to say they are the only headphones you need is a straight up lie, the treble will be wildly inaccurate when mixed due to the dips and massive peaks. The Sennheiser hd600 is by far the best headphone to mix with without spending way more money due to the natural treble mids and bass, although slightly lacking in the sub-bass. Best bet would be to have 2 different headphones so that you can cover the spectrum

    Great review, thx for sharing with us. I would like to buy Beyer closedback headphones for vocal booth. Would you recommend 250 ohms for recording vocals, or would 80 be better? Considering the extension of high frequencies in the former (known for sibilance). I'm interested in your opinion on this topic, if you use them for tracking and recording vocals, especially for longer sessions. Btw, I use DT 880, 250 ohms for mix and master control. I quite liked the presentation of this video, and you are definitely a passionate person when it comes to getting information out there to people, although I would like to clarify a few things as I did notice some things that were inaccurate about what was said. When you showed the frequency response graph in this video, you showed a compensated graph from rtings rather than a raw graph. Compensated graphs show how a headphone adheres to a target curve (in rtings case which is the website you showed, they have their own target catered for their measurement rig derived from the Overear Harman target). These are useful for people who are new to reading these sorts of graphs, although to read a compensated graph and get useful information out of it, you need to know the target curve that the measurement has been compensated to. A raw graph however, shows exactly how a headphone would measure without compensating anything. In reality, the DT770s that you mention in the video are not very well balanced, mainly due to the upper bass and treble, as well as a lot of dips throughout the entire frequency spectrum. The main ones to be aware of are the 5dB dip at 200Hz, and the 5db (ish) dip at 4kHz. In my experience, both of these have significant impact on the usability of these for mixing and mastering, as well as just general listening and referencing. The DT770s also have very accentuated treble above 4kHz, which tends to peak at 10dB higher than a lot of more balanced target curves such as IEF neutral as an example, as well as overall being around 5dB higher than the rest of the frequency response, and can make them quite harsh and sibilant for a lot of people. This colours the sound in an unfavourable way, and has the possibility of masking some frequencies below it. The dip at 200Hz can be seen on a lot of closed back headphones as, just like in an untreated room, the back casing of closed back headphones act as a surface for sound to bounce off and cause muddiness as well as other possible resonance issues. (these vary between different headphones). The DT770 and many others like it attempt to mitigate this by dipping the 200Hz region. There are closed backs that do not have this issue such as the AKG K371 or K361, and the Rode NTH-100 for a similar price, as the DT770s, which also measure much more balanced compared to many other headphones out there. (sorry for such a long comment lmao, just wanting to educate and get the right information out there :D)

      Thanks for commenting! i have seen also the two pair of cans that you mentioned and both of them are not flat above. Judging from your comment, you know your stuff and you already know that there is no headphones with flat fq response. I tested the k371 and didn't like the sound of them, i had a feeling that i had a low pass filter in my master. At the end of the day is a matter of taste IMO and how you feel working with them. Choosing headphones is not only about the fq response, i found that these Headphones are the best One Size Fits all at least for me! ✌🏻

      @@AudioWavesAcademy. definitely agreed that there are no headphones with a completely balanced frequency response! It's almost impossible to get one that would be perfectly neutral for everyone due to people's deviances in their HRTF, especially in the pinna where 1-3kHz deviates from the rest, (hence the pinna gain shown in raw target curves, there are many targets out there partly for that reason). The best way to get people to say what they would consider a "neutral" headphone is to get everyone to agree on one, hence why the Sennheiser HD600 is considered the most neutral headphone out there among most, although there are still some that may disagree. I can definitely see why you felt as if you had a low pass filter going to the k371s, especially if you went from the DT770s, as your ears do get used to the sound you listen to most over time! And the DT770s and the K371s do have a 5-7dB difference in the treble from 4-8kHz, and possibly more depending on how your actual unit is. And yeah! You can probably mix with anything if you know what you're doing and you know the audio devices that you are working with well, which considering you have used the DT770s for 6 years, I would imagine so! Although for a beginner, having a headphone that has such a large amount of treble as well as the dips that the DT770 has, may not be the best idea, especially if they don't have any other references that they can use to listen to what they have made, which is where going for a more "neutral" headphone tends to be a better choice, as things such as the 200Hz dip can hide muddiness that would want to be taken out, although yes, taste does definitely play into it. If you don't like the sound profile of a headphone you are using, you're probably not going to like what you make. One last point that I would like to make about this, is if a person is planning on changing them or upgrading them in the future, or even getting speakers to go alongside them, because the DT770s have quite a unique sound signature, especially in the treble, (Beyerdynamic have quite a "signature sound" with their treble that most of their line-up share qualities of), then likely it could take longer and be harder to adjust to using them, and can colour their perception of what "good sound" sounds like to them. Thank you for taking the time to reply back! It's nice being able to have these conversations with other like minded people such as yourself. I hope your channel gets the attention it deserves :3

    I have the 1990s but they are so hard to push and the bass is so light that I never use them. Which is a huge bummer

      @@joakimjocka8022 A DAC won't do anything for powering the headphones at all, you need an amplifier that has good power output. Save you wasting money and being disappointed. In your case it's an DAC with amplification but make sure it is as you can buy them individually.

    Not true these headphones are not the best for the price, there is actually something better. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO has a high peak in the treble they are not flat at all. So mixes will not be accurate in the treble region. A more balanced pair of headphones are the YAMAHA HPH-MT5 for the same price. You might enjoy the way they sound but this is definitely not a headphone for mixing nor accurate!

      Yes there is some boost on the trebles but the headphones that you mentioned are really bass heavy! I have tried them and to say the truth I couldn’t work long sessions with them, started having headaches in 30‘ because of the bass. Is just my experience ✌🏻

    Agreed these are the best headphones for the money. You didn't mention the variants of them though which is 32ohm, 80ohm and 250ohm (maybe others). The 250ohm ones need a good quality headphone amplifier to sound like they are meant to. Plug them directly into a laptop and they will sound really bad. The 80ohm ones I have are OK on laptops and anything you plug them into and the 32ohm ones are the best if you're just plugging straight into a laptop. You'll have to Google why ohms matter. I forget.

      Something to mention about the drivability of a headphone is that they have a more important metric than ohms which is their sensitivity. In reality, ohms have much less of an effect than what you might think, and with most headphones, ohms are not a thing to worry about unless you're getting very deep into them or running them through a tube amp. The quality of the DAC and amp in a laptop's headphone jack varies greatly from model to model, so that would be the deciding factor of whether a headphone sounds good or not through one. As well, the 32, 80 and 250ohm DT770s all measure differently, and they are also quite known to have a lot of unit variation even with the same model
