    Beautiful project. Making one today to put on my tea tray on my breakfast table because I always find myself doing needlework while drinking tea and watching pots or baking. Thank you for watching and commenting! You’re right about the crafting spaces! Haha! It seems to be the consensus that we are all messy and cluttered. I guess we do better when we see everything spread out.. 😆 I love the idea of sewing while having a cup of tea and baking! That sounds so peaceful and soul nourishing. Enjoy your pincushion! I hope it makes your stitching even happier! ❤️

    I can totally relate to the rubber band anxiety. For some reason I have the same anxiety when I open canned biscuits. Luckily we only use them about once a year. And I absolutely LOVE that lace you used. I'd have a hard time cutting it to fit it into the cup. That's one of my little quirks - hating to cut into a beautiful piece of lace or fabric.

      Thanks so much for stopping by & commenting! I'm so with you on the biscuits. It's good to have a biscuit opening cooking companion nearby. 😄 Just to allay any concerns, I would never, ever, use a piece of lace like that if it weren't badly damaged. My goal is to find ways to salvage the damaged items so people can continue to enjoy them. Or like us - continue to revere the work of the artists and crafters of the past. ❤️

    Love, love your pincushion. My craft/ sewing room was a mess, and my girlfriend said it looks like an artist at work. I never worried about the mess I created while working again. How do you stick the cup and saucer together.

    • @outtaredzhead4441
      @outtaredzhead4441 Рік тому

      Thank you!! I hope you try the pincushion project!! I go through stages with my studio disasters. It's hard not to have a mess when you're working - and I'm usually working. So I let things pile up until there's nowhere left to work, then stuff goes into bins & the bins go into the attic. Eventually, they come back down, and I repeat the process. 😄 The problem is that I take over other rooms too. I will be getting a she shed soon, so hopefully, that will help. As far as gluing the cup and saucer, I used E6000 with a dab of hot glue to hold it in place as the glue dries. I've recently discovered JB Weld. I really like it for glass, etc. I haven't tried it with teacups but it has been great with other projects. If you have Instagram- tag me when you make your pincushion! I'd love to see it! Thanks for stopping by & commenting 🙂

    • @outtaredzhead4441
      @outtaredzhead4441 Рік тому

      Hi! I do not have a specific seller. I like to use napkins that have a special memory attached - maybe one from a birthday party, or tea with someone special. If I am making stock for my shop I search for a specific theme on Etsy, Ebay, Amazon, Google, or even in person, in stores like Marshall's, Tuesday Morning, and Home Goods. I like to find vintage napkins when possible. The hedgehog napkins were purchased year or two ago. I wish I had a record of their manufacturer but I don't. This year I've been keeping a list so I'll have a reference going forward.

    • @outtaredzhead4441
      @outtaredzhead4441 Рік тому

      Thank you for your question about the origin of the mushroom napkins in my video. My intention when answering the original question wasn't to be vague, but to give an honest answer. I said I "think" they were discontinued because I have been searching the web for more and have been unable to find them. I'm not able to say with 100% certainty that the company no longer makes them, (especially since I don't have the packaging to know who to contact directly,) but I can say with certainty that I can no longer find them. I am using the search terms "mushroom paper napkins" and "fungi paper napkins". Last year those ornaments reached best seller status on Etsy. They were popular this year too but I have limited stock. I would love to be able to replenish my own supply. In my searches I also combed through my purchase histories on Etsy, Ebay and Amazon. I can't find the purchase. I believe that can happen when a supplier goes out of business, or replaces the item in their listing with a different product. Unfortunately I don't have an idea who that might be. I wish I could be more helpful.

      Yes! An equivalent to Mod Podge is to mix about 2 parts pva to 1 part water (I go slightly heavier on the pva.) 😀 Thanks so much for stopping by & commenting!

    I’m curious how you would do this on the wood using photos?? That would be awesome but obviously photo paper is a lot thicker than a napkin paper. Please let me know thank you.

      Hi there! I had a customer ask me to make a photo ornament for them recently. I tried a photo transfer - but I have an ink jet printer and I couldn't get a good transfer. This is when you print your image in reverse and decoupage it with the image face first on the ornament, then rub off the backing with a wet finger or damp cloth - leaving the image behind. It works best with a laser jet printer. Water slide transfer method might work, if you sand really well first. The sheets are available on Amazon and usually have the instructions. You could print your image on to paper and cut or punch the image out then decoupage. I have gotten pretty good results with that - except that you have a rim around the image where it doesn't meet the edges of the wood. My final thought would be to print on onion skin paper - which is much thinner and more pliable than standard paper. Then decoupage. Hope that helps! 😀

      I watch for them everywhere. Ebay has a wide variety available. Often you can find vintage patterns too. There is a seller on Ebay. I'm not sure the name but they sell napkins in small groups, (between 2 to 4.) That would be a nice way to create a small collection of different ornaments!

    Rubber bands dry out and break eventually. So best to do a back up stitch.

    Don't apologize for your "junky" workspace!! Creatives SHOULD be in a "junky" space. Honestly, it's not junky at all. It's just how you have all your stuff out and about, seemingly willy-nilly to others, to do your projects. If you are organized and your workspace was totally clean, I'd be suspicious. No artist has a totally clean space ... or they shouldn't have. I have always said, especially when I teach, that if you don't have threads on your clothes, glue or paint on your shirt (or smock or whatever), and art rags that are clean, you're not doing it right. It's rather like dancers showing up to an audition in new shoes. That's going to be a hard "no" from anyone judging. Been there. Art is joyously messy, from the space to your hands. I can't tell you how many weeks I've gone with dye or paint or alcohol ink on my fingers, fingernails, or at the very least, on my cuticles. Art IS messy and that's part of the joy of it. So, if your space is messy, so be it because that's what it should be.

      I really enjoyed reading your comment! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and for helping me to let up on judging myself 😀 I have found so many times - well after completing a project, that I didn't include something I wanted to because it was packed away and I forgot all about it. Having things in the open helps with the process and the inspiration! Thank you again! Happy Creating 😊🤗

      @@outtaredzhead4441 You're welcome. I've learned to have everything at hand because I do so many different things. I put the stuff I use most often so I can reach it. Stuff I use frequently but less often on a different shelf because it's easy to get to, and things I rarely use but "will someday" in boxes that don't take up valuable space but is still easy to get to. That took a lot more thought in setting up my studio than you'd think ... And it's still not "clean", nor should it be. I've learned over the years that while "clean" is a good thing for the rest of the house, my studio should be what it is ... comfortable, accessible, an oasis of inspiration in which I have all of the things I can work with available with only a few moves of boxes to get to. I just bought a set of cabinets and shelves and you know what I didn't do? Put on the doors. It's my studio and I want to see my stuff, not have it buried away or hidden behind a door. Why? Because my artistic self shouldn't ever have to hide, not in concept or in execution. I need what I need when I need it. No rules. Just DO, and you can't do that if a studio is so neat and tidy that you have to clean up later. Art isn't fussy, or at least shouldn't be unless you want to follow the classics, which only seems to give me a heachache becasue I simply can't understand why anyone would want to go through all that practice and training when I personally don't find it necessary for what I do. Right?

If you've never tried it, Bigelow Lavender Chamomille tea is amazing. I call it my liquid tranquilizer. 😄 It really is soothing - and healthy- and contains probiotics.... and has no carbs!! I just got done working a flea market and I have all these beautiful teacup signed England really beautiful marking goldtone detailing handpainted porcelain bone china etc. etc. and people won’t even buy them for eight dollars it’s kind of sad I mean I think it’s like a piece of art in my opinion but I decided that, I was going to make pincushions out of them I guess other people of saw this idea as well so thanks for showing your way the other one I saw where they put a really cool button at the center so in the top of the fabric or they gathered everything they put a cool but you make your metal or a vintage style button

      I have kept a teacup and saucer, each, from my great great, & great grandparents as well as a few other family members long gone. I treasure them and have used them as displays. But there are so many beautiful teacups out there that need love too - as you have found - and it can be hard to rehome them. I'm so happy to have given you an idea on changing them up a bit 😀 When you mentioned the buttons, it brought to mind some I made. You might like to try, if you haven't already thought of it. I used the metal button kits you spoke of. To cover them I went through my damaged vintage hankies. I used pieces of the pretty lace and floral hankies over white fabric scraps. I also used pieces from damaged embroideries. That would give you some unique buttons & help recycle other stock items. If you get a chance to post a shop link, I'd ❤️ to see what you've done!! Thanks so much for visiting & taking time to comment!!

      Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!! Like you, I struggle with pricing. We tend to undervalue our time and resources. Prices can also be affected by your location. That said, I have charged $15 for the few local events I've attended. I do try to keep my costs in mind though. My supply cost is generally very low as I have a great deal of scraps from linens and things I've used in other, more pricey items, like journals and such. I hope that helps!! 🤗
