Wrappn Alaskan
Приєднався 2 лис 2019
Hello all! I'm a Mechanical Insulator in Alaska. These videos are to showcase the many different systems we work on and the challenges we face on a day to day basis! I encourage all apprentices to ask questions and fellow Journeyman to also chime in.
Mechanical Insulators are tasked with the installation and maintenance of energy saving and weather proofing insulating materials on a vast array of mechanical systems within the commercial and industrial scope of construction.
We exist in private sector companies as well as Unions.
Insulators go through a typical 4 year or 8000 hour apprenticeship programs and earn upwards $60 an hour.
Most of the work we do is in extremely uncomfortable conditions due to the varying locations of HVAC and Plumbing systems. We work with a lot of fiberglass materials and toxic adhesives that most people absolutely hate.
All these variables and conditions present the challenges that make this work so rewarding.
Join us if you appreciate hard work!

They don’t give a fuck they thnk we insulate in an hour and never will give us enough time
lol they dont give a shit. let it rust.
@Harley5150 lol I hear you... problem is...it's that kind of thinking that's given insulators a shifty reputation in Alaska... we are looked at lower than sheet rockers
Man what a hole looks like roof drains im guessing
@@benjicinniamon2849 yep! 6 feet above the grid on top of a return air duct... friggin hospital remodels lol
This popped on my feed, my guy I apologize for the comment. I was just messing around. Probably not a good idea. Hope the dumb comment doesn’t discourage you from uploading more content. Especially since I watch your stuff. Once again it was a dumb comment and I apologize. Keep doing you! Hope you keep having work and health.
@peterrivera6808 fair enough... definitely doesn't discourage me bro... I take our trade extremely seriously... if anything I want to post more content but I put the job above videos... it's all good... It's kind of funny because I get it... our job looks easy, but most of the time our spacing is tight and our durations are fast paced... so it's easy to pick our work apart... there isn't really much attention to what we do, despite its importance...and it's time to redefine the entire trade... I'm happy to have you here, no hard feelings!
@peterrivera6808 do you like doing board and canvas? Up here outside air ducts are critical because of the temperature... zero room for error... I'll post a video for you tomorrow of the job I'm currently on... some sweet duct work...you'll dig it!
I like it all! I’m in Southern California, our methods are very different than up in Alaska. I have never done canvas, to me it’s an old school method. Been a union insulator for 13 years now. I’m used to using board glass and aluminum 0.16 with corner angle on roof duct. I’m going to be doing allumiguard on roof duct next week. It will be my first time. Should be fun! If I had to take my pick, I like small plumbing jobs or duct wrap jobs. I miss the small jobs. I’ll look out for your video homie!
@@peterrivera6808 BRO....ALUMIGAUARD IS MY SPECIALTY
@peterrivera6808 I'd live to help... Metal jacket doesn't provide the vapor barrier we need up here...in the past few years, my company has made RMax and alumigauard the standard... we have submitted for it so much that engineers now spec it... it's the only way to go... I have LOTS of tips for you...
Hey question, did you have to go to trade school or anything like that?? Where did you learn to do this
@@SRWMZ it was a 4 year, 8,000 hour apprenticeship... you can either join the heat and frost union to start an apprenticeship or find a non union program through a local Mechanical Insulation outfit
Bro your dentist been saying this same thing to you for years now
@EdgarStyles1234 that's all you fools have to say... comment on my teeth... you're the same kind of scum bag as my step dad who poisoned me 30 years ago and gave me the cancer that has taken my teeth... fuck you clown
do you have and tips for the larger 90s? i work at a battery plant and we gotta do the darn 24 × 2 90s. they are a absolute pain to put on in pipe racks
@@AmericaODS I'd say use straps to tighten up... use spray adhesive for the fluff just going off the simple description... can you elaborate? Is it chill pipe? Heat? PVC 90''s? Metal?
Next time you try putting the top fitting on first and the bottom one second. It hides the seem! Just saying🤙
@@davidcastellanos3878 lol good looking out...I'll be damn... I didn't even catch that... but absolutely...standard ops
Definitely an non union person doing this work. In Canada id fire him asap and get all his lrevious work get a quality inspection. Then bring him to court. The lost of energy by not doing it correctly and lack of vapor barrier is unacceptable. Hope it was done for free cause this is pointless
@mattb6494 lol you don't need vapor barrier on heat... and when the spec's say to NOT COVER valves...you dont... Get fucked moron...
@mattb6494 I understand that you're new... and only have a limited understanding of the words coming out of your mouth so I'll be nice... but just so you know... yes, we are non union...HOWEVER...90% of our work is with union mechanical outfits who use us because of our thorough, self reliant presence... local frost and heat is non existent in Alaska because they cant compete with our productivities...and just to drive that home, our numbers include prevailing wages... next time you feel like being slick, maybe understand some context...
Only 🐱 are in a union for insulation, get a better company
God I can't believe I miss doin this kind of work
I'm an apprentice, just a quick question from the young buck, why are you not doing those 90's with pipe?
@@froggythekid8955 you mean with tape?
I think he means mitre cut the corners
Wow, expertly done
I appreciate that! Thank you.... I truly love my work!
Pro tip
@@topkinginer much respect for the Jaws/Hillary profile pic 🤣
If you know, you know!
Bruh how do you do that with gloves with finger tips ? Does that not add like crazy time to your work?
@@Ozzie-OH-OH it's second nature with those gloves... no problem at all with speed... they do wonders keeping dirt off the ASJ
Lol first time?
Dude you're insulating domestic lines putting laps on. Give me a break.
There is no Metter tatoos...Goel company.. look.😉
Great job
Nice work. What's the white paste you put at the end.. ? hos tacks gotta be pretty expensive. Here in Southern ontario .30 cents a piece.
The white stuff is just a simple mastic we use as a vapor barrier/terminated ends And yes...tacks are spendy...but its a normal cost we proce into jobs
One of the most underrated trades out there
I appreciate that....we have to know the Tinner's layouts and the plumber's systems
@@wrappnalaskan where at you based out of? I was an insulator in Colorado.
I make upward of 68 an hour. He wouldn't last the first voc this is worthless might have not insulate it
@@mattb6494why is it worthless
Super late comment but do you wear a respirator while handwling the material? I did this work years ago and learned in school the fibergalss can get in your lungs and be cancer causing. Whats your take on this?
If i wear a respirator its for the space im in not the fiberglass... ive had muktiplr lung function tests over the years with no problems... and ive actually been shown by a doctor how these modern materials are made with fibers that are big and easily caught by our bodys natural defenses before they can get into the lungs Asbestos is a concern on older work sites but we rarely do anything with those existing systems
@wrappnalaskan thank you for the reply I have been contemplating getting back into this line of work for a while
@@mikejames7070 there have been a number of updates to mechanical codes that have increased our scope... in this green new world we are becoming a larger piece of the puzzle
Nice! I've got a 99 SC2 as well that I'd love to turbo but realistically the parts are too hard to find. Yours looks to be very well done.
Thanks man...I've been into these for 20 years now lol... this one is a total sleeper...the engine is fully built...standalone...you name it... The hardest thing to get the turbo manifold... you can find the OBX "log style" T3 manifold for the second and 3rd gen heads but they are very basic...and if you want to make big power you'll need a custom intake manifold to accommodate a bigger throttle body... and that cost a few grand easy... I chopped a stock manifold...TIG welded a larger plenum and flange for my 80mm TB and it was $750 Other than those 2 things, you can get H-beam Scat forged rods through Summit and Carillo Pistons will make you a forged set at what ever compression ratio you want.. And if you want to go REAL BIG you can send your factory block to Golden Eagle and they'll re-sleeve it for around $2K Tuning a standalone is mandatory Took me 2 years and $20K but this car eats STi's and Chargers all day
Ask Donald Trump bootlicker
People keep think S about to hit the fan they been saying that since 1960 nothing will happen to after your grandkids, grandkids, grandkids are alive,we will not be around
If you think the US can continue on this trajectory you aren't living in reality... I don't need validation... in 1960 the border didn't see a 25M illegal immigrant invasion... if you paid the kind of taxes I pay you'd be a little more involved
What would happen if shit hit the fan?
we are all going to find out...

"They assassinated him..." Who is the "they" and who is the "him" that she is referring to?
Hey Hillbilly Bob, how many death threats do you think Obama received??? No heads rolled, as a matter of fact, if some how by some miracle or method of cheating her were to get in, someone will probably take him out as soon as he turn our military against us.
Biden and trump aren’t good
I definitely think trump needs to join the ranks of presidents of Lincoln, McKinley, and JFK but these clowns are making a violent threat and should be turned in.
