    When you mounted the bed rails and cabinet to the walls do you screw into the metal studs for each brace or would the plywood be enough to anchor it?

    • @ShanesWay12
      @ShanesWay12 5 місяців тому

      The Bed rails are screwed into the metal studs. For the Cabinet I actually screwed a 2x4 across the front wall since there are only 3 studs then mounted the cabinet bracket to the 2x4. The interior plywood is only 1/4" so I wouldn't trust it to hold much.

    Nice roadtrip, I've driven some of those roads and they're fun in any car. The advantage of a fuel injected 4.0 liter can't be understated though, the constant changes in altitude can send an iffy carb quickly to the grave or at least test your sanity lol

    • @ShanesWay12
      @ShanesWay12 5 місяців тому

      Definitely nice having fuel injection! Starting at sea level and reaching a high point of just over 7,300' coupled with temps in the low teens could of been very frustrating with an old or dirty carb. Smooth sailing with the 4.0!

    So you were camping in below zero weather for 6 days. How did you keep your fresh water and waste water from freezing? Was it all close enough to the camper to keep it warm enough?

    • @ShanesWay12
      @ShanesWay12 5 місяців тому

      Actually spent several weeks at a time below freezing (32). The cassette toilet is completely within the camper and had no issue freezing. When cold weather camping I kept fresh water under the dinette bench in 5 gal jugs which I routed the water pump intake line to. I did not utilize the grey water tanks when camping below freezing but rather dumped grey water. Tanks did have heaters installed but I do not think they would have kept up in that cold of weather. If I was building a camper from scratch I would keep all tanks within heated cavity. I believe the interior video does a better job of showcasing a few of these features.

    6 X 12 would be a perfect size for my NEXT TRAILER. Agh... I started a 5 X 10 and it has taken, working very part time on it, 1.5 years to do what you and your other half did in three days' time in your build vid. Hahaha... how nice to have a helper and some shop shelter rather than one's driveway to work on yer rig. But I'm not too envious... I like what I'm building but it's far smaller, albeit more easily towed w/ my 1/2-ton, same ground clearance, etc... I'll have a report up in the next six months LOL. Congrats! on a great, big, simple, wonderful build! my friend. Safe travels to you both.

    Did the previous owner swap in a later 4.0 Jeep inline six? If so, he probably hacked and hodge-podged it in. I noticed it tried to die on you in Part 2. Would've been better if it remained stock with whatever 232 or 258 it came with.

    • @ShanesWay12
      @ShanesWay12 5 місяців тому

      I believe the car was originally put together in 2017. The 4.0 was completely rebuilt then and is a bolt in. The swap was actually very nicely done. Complete wiring harness from the Cherokee was installed in the Hornet. This enabled the fuel injection to be easily integrated. A few small issues we sorted out along the way but nothing major. I believe we put more miles on the car in this trip then it had on it since being rebuilt in 2017. A 2 wheel drive AX-15 was also installed giving the car overdrive and the ability to cruise 75 at 2000 rpm.

    • @ShanesWay12

      The heads were heavily ported factory Ford D3 heads. Among the worse 429/460 head there is. A DOVE head or a CJ head would be much better. I think the Kaase P51s are about the best head you can get without going crazy. I dont recall exact cam specs but it was pretty small. Somewhere in the 220/230 range cut on 114. Made for a very driveable combination with tons of torque. Motor is all done at about 5,000 rpm. Would be a great 4x4, towing or boat motor.

    I am in love with the V85 TT and it is probably at the top of my list for my next motorcycle. The only thing holding me back was could it handle a BDR so I appreciate your video. I have some loooong miles to get to get to most of the BDR's (I live on the east coast) so I need something comfy for the roads but can manage at least easy to moderate trails. I currently have a 2018 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and at my skill level it is WAY to big, hell I don't even love it on the road because it's so tall and top heavy. I also have a CRF300L Rally which I love, but not to go halfway cross the country on in a timely fashion. The V85 TT may be one of the only adventure motorcycles I love for its looks as much as its ability and value point.

    • @ShanesWay12
      @ShanesWay12 5 місяців тому

      I have been very happy with the V85 so far. I rode it about 900 miles of highway in one day and was pretty comfortable. It seems to cruise about 70 (76ish on speedo) well. Off road it is certainly not a dirt bike but has been very manageable. A few times in more technical stuff I have found myself wishing for deeper gearing in first but have so far always made it through. I feel it provides phenomenal bang for your buck and I think its a pretty sweet looking bike! Definitely a conversation starter.
