Dan is the 5th person from North Dakota to complete a full marathon in all 50 states and the 2nd person from North Dakota to reach Titanium, the highest level of the Marathon Maniacs. He reached both milestones on the same marathon in Hawaii about a month before his 50th birthday.
He’s also a 6 Star finisher.

A Walk and a Run
My right hip is still hurting, so I’m struggling. I just want to run. I kinda wish I would’ve latched onto cycling, especially since I loved to bike when I was younger. I still love it, but I haven’t yet given it enough of a chance to give me that same feeling that running gives me. Today was the day I set in stone that I’d try running again after a couple of months of barely doing anything. My hip barely gave me any pain, so that’s good. I was not in very good shape, though. Go figure. :)
It was a great start.
Earlier in the week, I finally did SOMETHING for my leg … I said I’d go to the doctor. Instead, I went to StretchLab. I actually think it may have helped. I need more of that. I also truly believe Hyland’s Leg Cramps Ointment has been working. Hmmm.

Running hurts. :( No pain with the bike ride, though. My right leg / hip is in a lot of pain. Oh well. I went on a 3.38mi run followed by a 14.13mi bike ride through Hyland Lake Park Reserve. I saw some deer, including a younger deer. I went for a run this morning. I told myself that I’d run even if it was raining. It was pretty nice to run in the rain, actually. It was mostly either a sprinkle or barely a light rain until the very end of my run when it got a little harder. It was nice. The best parts were spotting the 2 turkeys, offering a decent gobble, and the several deer that I saw later, including 2 bambis! All good.

On July 3rd, we enjoyed the Summer Fete in Bloomington, MN, at the Normandale Lake Bandshell. On the first walk around, we saw a painted turtle laying eggs. Later at night, fireworks! @@runner.BPM150 Hey, thanks! I think it’s almost entirely GoPro video. I may get my phone out a time or two at the beginning or end, but I carry my GoPro often during my marathons. I’m still deciding if I’ll do Sioux Falls next month. I don’t think I’m ready quite yet, so I might wait on next month. I hope you have a great run in Sioux Falls!!! Good luck and have fun!! No, I’m not running CIM tomorrow, but I absolutely loved it last year. I’m kinda saving up (my strength) for the Tokyo Marathon in March. That’ll be my 88th. I hope you have a great race tomorrow!!! I THINK I hit the wall though I’m not even sure I fully understand the mechanics of that terminology yet. But yah - I wanted to stop and jog/walk/run the last 10k and then I just reflected back on all the work I put in this whole year and told myself “no way” - “just block everything out and push until you simply can’t move any more” and somehow made it to the finish line with last two miles magically being my best. (Probably just wanted it to be over with by then 😂) Thanks again man! I’ll look forward to seeing any of your future posts. And best of luck jn Tokyo. Sounds like you’re gonna complete AT LEAST a 100 marathons before you “retire”. You may even have twice that number in ya for all we know!! Godspeed on all of them!

Yes, it was fairly late at night. I usually arrive there at night to make sure I get there at all before school lets out the following day, and I get the added benefit of being able to eat lunch with my son at school before I pick him and my daughter up after school. (Have fun in Texas!)
